Hi, i have the exact same tiles in my house, we are having them removed. Can you tell me did the self levelling stick to the black bitumen (black glue) ??
@reedy8585
@reedy8585 5 месяцев назад
Yes, the pva preps the surface and the self levelling had excellent adhesion to it

Could you have just left it and encased the tile, or are they too brittle?
@reedy8585

Yes however I wanted to install underfloor heating

@@reedy8585 Nice work. Had to have a chunk of mine done to mitigate before a sewer repair. Removed the glue all the way down to the concrete. No fun.

PVA Glue?? What’s that? What brand did you use?

Did the self-levelling stuff bleed leak under the skirting board?
@reedy8585
@reedy8585 7 месяцев назад
The skirting boards were removed in the end but yes the self levelling will flow underneath them

@@reedy8585thanks and sorry just seeing. I don’t get notifications for Yt. Another question, any reason why you removed the tiles first? I ask because I’m in a similar situation to you so planning how to navigate thing; also does t look like you were living there at the time Thanks for the video. I’ve known it’s possible to do this but no one actually demonstrates, they (builders) just say don’t when it’s not all that terrible an idea

@@chubbyBunny94 The main reason was because I planned to put underfloor heating in and I was gonna dig the foundation to add insulation before screeding over it. With that said abestos has got very good thermal insulation properties and in all honesty there would be nothing wrong with just screeding over it in my opinion.

@chubbyBunny94 hi there friend. If you was to latex over the floor tiles, it will take shape to them underneath. We've done loads of jobs like this and it is best to remove the tiles and then seal the bitumen residue by latexing over it 👍🏼

What are you spreading on the floor after the removal at the end?

@@reedy8585My Canada home built in 1994 has green 12x12 vinyl tiles with black glue underneath. On top of those green tiles, there is sheet vinyl with white glue under. Can any of the layers and glues contain asbestos for 1994 home? Thanks
@reedy8585
@reedy8585 7 месяцев назад
@@kingbee4474 it's unlikely as asbestos was banned in most countries by the 90s. However it's cheap and easy to have it tested so I'd do that if you are not sure. It's also best to leave it undisturbed if it's not damaged.

@@reedy8585 thanks so much! I started lifting the sheet vinyl over about 5 sq feet, then decided it's easier to lay SPC click flooring on top. I decided to put back the sheet vinyl... It lost the glue under that area...however I put duct tape around that perimeter (where it lost the glue). Is it still safe in case it contains asbestos? I guess it was "disturbed" when i lifted it since the felt backing ripped. Basically now the sheet vinyl is glued everywhere except under the 5 sq feet...but it is sealed with duct tape around it. The sheet vinyl was installed somewhere after 1994 (home built date l) and 2004...probably much later than 94, since no one changes flooring that quick....

@@kingbee4474 well vinyls and glue do a good job of containing the fibres on their own so long as they don't break down and start crumbling. If you wanna be a 100% you should have it tested. but I couldn't give you sound advice without inspecting it in person.
