I totally sent this to my wife because she LOVES house shopping in random towns. She loves the quirky old houses with character too.

Do New Albany, Ohio next!! I live there! Dublin is a beautiful area as well, Murfield CC is a wonderful place designed by Jack Nicklaus.

It was cool to see you looking at houses near me. You can get a lot for the money here. I watch flip or flop and they buy small places really run down and it cost them 500,000 to buy .

My wife and I spend way too much time on Redfin these days, but if you're looking for lovely older craftsman style "fixer-uppers" on tiny lots and for a lot more money, you should definitely check out the Seattle area.

Totally agree on photography being vital in selling property. Content was fun to see your critical eye on interior design.

It's fun to look at houses. I think this is very true to life that you maybe go into looking at stuff as an investment but then can quickly pivot to wondering about moving in. That flexible type of mind is how you find deals I guess.

I live here in Dublin Ohio - the real estate market here is very expensive but you do kinda pay here for the area. It’s nice here.

I love an old house project but don't underestimate the cost, time & heartache! (Jenny clearly gets this from her comments about plumbing & electric problems - they will be there and more, guaranteed). 1920 wouldn't be old in the UK, that's probably close to the average age. We previously did up a cob walled (mud, basically) thatched drover's cottage from around 1700. All the other buyers were going to demolish it, so the owners sold it to us despite ours being a lower offer. Current house is 1892, which is actually harder work due to more complexity of features.

Omg that’s incredible I love that you are saving those homes! It’s breaks my heart every time I see a home with character torn down here or it gets some generic flip/remodel done. 🤦🏻‍♀️

@@JennieJSullins I can't believe it wasn't listed for protection tbh. 1700 is pretty old even by our standards and the design was almost unique in the region. The walls were so thick, and the cracks in them so wide that I could get my arm in to my shoulder. We contacted a museum for advice, but they weren't aware of any others in a similar style; we had an architect visit and he just told us to knock it down. But we thought it wasn't built by professionals so it didn't need to be fixed by them - we literally did the major structural work after looking at RU-vid videos. Cob is such a lovely material to work with - you dig up a load of clay, add about the same amount (IIRC) of sand and a bit of straw, put it on a tarpaulin and smoosh it up with your feet. Then you slap it on or shove it in where its needed and it dries rock solid. We lime rendered over the top which gave a lovely curvy organic feel inside. When we brought down the ceilings, this hideous gout of dust, rat skeletons and God knows what fell on us. We found that the roof timbers had rotted away entirely, you could just crush them with your hand, so we had a moment of painic where we had to run and get every broom handle and bit of wood to hold up the thatch. We found from an old local that the roof had been collapsed by the Fauld weapons dump explosion (one of the largest accidental explosions in history), so the owners just sawed off the ends of the beams that were poking into their bedroom, improvised a ceiling from layers of paper and built up the shape of the roof again by piling straw, then thatched over the top. It looked fabulous in the end Fun times!

Jennie, check out Fayetteville, Arkansas. You will love the historic homes and also the geography of the city. Northwest Arkansas is much different than what most people think of when they think of Arkansas. It is a great place for rentals, being a college town. Have you considered investing in states other than California? You can get so much more bang for your buck, and it is pretty easy being an out-state-investor with a great property manager. Little Rock, AR; Hot Springs, AR; and Conway, AR are also a few other areas with good rental markets. Another great video!

We have actually considered out of state investing a lot so I definitely appreciate the recommendation. We had a rental at one time out of state but it was way more hands on than we liked at the time and we would do it differently. I will totally check out Arkansas now!

Hahaha totally! I am obsessed with house hunters international for that reason. You have all the great places. In CA anything older than 1920’s is a historic landmark 😂

If you want to get help on a search my wife is a realtor and can refer you to a qualified agent anywhere in the world. An agent is free to the buyer as any fees come out of sellers side. Good luck on your search.

Good morning Jenny, why do you almost always only wear grey t-shirts? Spice it up! Life is too short to be that minimalist. With warm regards, RU-vid Subscriber 776... P.S. This is not a put down. I just wish your shirts were as bright as you are.
