Thank you for watching! Isn't this house sitting thing amazing? It's free for you as an owner, too. We like to say it's the best travel hack out there.

I've done a little bit of housesitting, but I didn't realize that there could be so much to it or that people could do it full-time. You guys are opening my eyes to new possibilities. Thank you!

I have been a subscriber now for some time and have loved your earlier videos. I have learned so much and your most recent videos are really encouraging me to leave my work sooner than later. I have the option of retiring in the next year with a nice pension similar to what you are spending each month and I am very curious about you doing what you are doing. Is it OK to contact you directly somehow? Thanks as always so much for the videos you do :)

A very thorough guide, you have it all covered. Do let me know if you are coming to Malaysia or Singapore. Btw I just booked our vacation for end March. We are off to Macau.

Without doubt, you're the first person I'm contacting when we get to Singapore! Looks like that may be in 2020! Will know more about our summer plans tomorrow...I hope! Enjoy Macau...is it tropical there?

Please let me know BEFORE you get to Singapore. I would like to offer you a couple of nights at my Air bnb unit , complimentary of course , if its available at the time.It’s in Malaysia just across the border,45 mins by bus. It might save you hotel costs( very high in Singapore where a 3 star costs more than $150 USD in a non central location)before or at the end of your sit so you can take your time connecting with your hosts. It’s convenient to travel to Singapore and back. We have guests who do that. If I can help you with any info , I would be happy to. We have a lot of good Budget airlines here so if you want to get around Asia , I can give you the rundown on those when you are at the planning stage. We are flying to Macau on one of those , I paid USD 472 for 3 Return adult tickets. Sale fare.We are flying in a 737. It is a 4 hour flight, no frills of course.Seats are fairly comfortable with lots of leg room. My Husband and Son are 6 footers, height wise American size and they find it comfortable enough to stretch their legs without paying for extra leg room.Generally Asian airlines even the Budget ones are pretty good by American airline standards, from my experience. Macau is subtropical , day temp now is around 65 F. When we go in March we expect it to be around 70F. Quite pleasant, here it is much hotter.

Wow!!!! What a generous offer! We are so grateful. Thank you! We are still planning this summer but it looks like we will spend 6 months in Asia in 2020 doing a combination of house sitting, hotels and Airbnbs. When it's time to get planning that adventure, I will make sure you know about it. You have so much good info on Asia! And, we will likely take you up on your wonderful offer. I am overwhelmed with appreciation!

It would be a pleasure . 2020 is quite some way off. You do plan well ahead.How much in advance do you usually arrange your House Sits and on average how long is each Sit?
@GoWithLess
@GoWithLess 5 лет назад
When we travel for sits, they have been as short as 4 nights and as long as a month. When we're full-time house sitting, we will try for 3-6 weeks but there will be exceptions. We tend to book about 6 months early. That helps us know our calendar and allows us to find affordable airline tickets...with points or cash.

What is your take on having to pay trustedhousesitters.com $120 before seeing if it’s something that even works for everyone? An upfront fee is really a turn off. Are you guys affiliated with them?

Hi Jack - Your comment/question is a good one for potential house sitters. Because it had a URL in it, YourTube flagged it so it didn't go live right away. I answered it on another post where you asked the question and want to post the question and my response here so others can see it. Hope it helps! Trusted Housesitters has changed our lives. Quite a deal for $120! We're off to a house sit in the French Alps for almost 6 weeks this summer we booked through the site. I'm not sure if they still allow you to see sits on the site if you're not a paying member. That would be a good way to get an idea what's out there if you can check it out (only members could apply to sits, though). When we started 4 years ago, paid members saw house sits posted immediately. Those who weren't members had a 24-hour delay. When it's competitive, 24 hours can make a world of difference. Plus, some home owners take their listing down quickly if they get lots of applicants. Keep in mind that it takes a little time to create a good profile so better to have it ready to go if a sit you want pops up. The early bird often gets the worm in our experience. We've said that we don't recommend house sitting to everyone. For people who take 1 or 2 weeks of vacation a year...we would likely not suggest it. There can be lots of home, pet and garden chores which wouldn't be very "vacation-y". Your priority is the home and pets...I like to say we're "trying on" someone else's life. Quite different from a normal pleasure trip. When we're house sitting, we're just living in another place. When we want to be busy sightseeing, we go with Airbnb or use hotel points from travel hacking. We'd also suggest doing local sits so new sitters have references. It's a lifestyle choice for us. The good news is we have a 25% off the fee if you use our referral link - www.trustedhousesitters.com/refer/RAF5872/. We have lots of videos about house sitting how-tos on our channel if you go down that path. If you have questions about it, please feel free to ask! For us, the fee is a no-brainer...and we're careful about everything we spend.

What are your thoughts when there are few reviews from previous sitters? Sometimes there are reviews, and sometimes they are blank. Is this a red flag?
@GoWithLess
@GoWithLess Год назад
If you look at reviews on the THS website, you’ll only see reviews, no blanks. If you’re on the mobile app, you will see blanks when there’s no review. I do look at the app and plenty of blanks is a big red flag for us. Look to see the names. Some sitters have done a sit many times and don’t review each time.

Curious, do you only take house sit jobs that pay, or are you usually simply getting free lodging in the home while house sitting?
@GoWithLess
@GoWithLess 5 лет назад
Usually, our house sitting is completely free - the owners don't pay us, we don't pay them. Sometimes there are exceptions but they are few and far between.

I would be careful leaving a box of chocolates on the bed if there are dogs around. I would be sure to close off the room. Chocolate is lethal to dogs and if they got into it, it could be a disaster. Otherwise, it's a cute idea. Lots of good ideas as usual. Alex

Some of the tips would be too much and a bit uncomfortable for Dutch taste, like leaving a framed picture of the pets, or a movie / picture compilation after the sit. This summer I had sit where it was ok that a friend stayed over for the night. She wanted to thank for this, and told me what she was bringing. Some of it was too typical Dutch - like liquorice which the French don't appreciate. So I already advised to not overdo it, but she brought it anyway. It was way too much, half of the dining table was ful. I added a note and left before the home owners returned, and she asked later if they had sent a message about it. Nothing at all, I think they might have been embarressed 😏 Did get a very good review 😊

That's a helpful comment, Melanka. It's interesting to learn what might be welcomed with tears of joy by one person, may be uncomfortable for another. Hopefully, we find the owners who fit our personalities. We love to approach life with a spirirt of generosity!
