I've followed Alex on IG for a long time so was so happy to see this tour!! Such great use of space in a smaller home, which I have as well. Very inspiring as always!
She’s done a great job of combining the best of an early (for California, 1950 is early!) ranch house. So impressed with the subtle light fixtures bouncing light off the ceiling. It’s not about the fixture - it’s about the light they give. Bravo. Having lived in a 1948-era house for 20+ years, I know what she was up against. These houses are very livable but they have challenges, such lack of storage and the entry immediately opening into the living space. This is a very inspiring house. Many lessons here for aspiring designers and first home owners.
I love these videos, but I must admit what I'm really here for are the trinkets. Her little needlepoint blue and white ginger jar ornament on display is love. And the tiny baskets.
Not everyone is interested in decorating a 4000 square foot space. Variety in the homes they show gives ideas for starter homes or empty nesters. I think she did a very nice job with the space.
All homes should be built to accommodate the elderly and disabled. This will be better for everyone. Large wide doorways and hallways make using a cane, walker or wheel chair much easier. Bathrooms or wet rooms need to have flat floors and no shower hump or pan. A flat floor allows for easy access and drains need to provided. Easy to use lever door and faucet handles are easier for the elderly to grip and open. Main floors should include a master bedroom, restroom, shower, laundry and wide walk in closet with few steps to enter. Homes should be designed with aging in place in mind.
