I agree that her ideas are creative and that designating lots of room for the kids is good and healthy. But there's just not enough private sleeping space for the parents in my opinion. I think the parents should use the climbing wall room as theirs. There's plenty other play space for their kids.
@InaEspere1234

I agree! It's very lovely but I think it's unsustainable long term... Likewise, the couple's bedroom in the alcove seem more appealing to me. I would also transform the playroom into a living room, and the existing living into the kid's space, while squeezing in the dining table. Keeping the Murphy Bed for friends and family only.

I totally agree. I'd put their bedroom in the alcove--leaving the nice aerial hammock which she seems to love--and have the foyer space as the climbing play area/guest room with the murphy bed. Perhaps ultimately more of a room for the oldest child, who may not want to sleep with the twins forever. Or her office if said oldest child wants the "cloffice" for a bedroom, say.

I absolutely love and admire this mom's creativity and resourcefulness. The lack of a private sleeping space for Mom & Dad is a no-go for me but I'm learning that people prioritize in different ways. @@wildnkarafreethey live in NYC. They can play outside, not to mention the plentiful number of parks. There are plenty of things to do outdoors in winter, but even if they want to stay inside, the kids don’t need an entire room for climbing and such. I have three kids myself and never at any point would I desire for them to have so many toys and junk that I have to label zipper bags for each type or bins for each Lego part. The amount of toys in that space is ridiculous and shows a lack of consideration toward her husband, even a lack of consideration for herself. Yes I was going to say the same, this family is all about the kids while the parents adjust to their kids, should be the opposite. I understand as a mom myself but parents whom pay all the bills should have more comfortably in their own home like a good sleeping place, dad sleeps on an air bed? That's bananas, surely they could of made the kids beds into Murphy beds in the play room and the parents have their space in the bedroom. Wow, kids occupy most of the apt with “play areas” taking up just about every inch and the parents squeezed into a corner! I must be the odd one out because I thought this was a very strange apartment. She works in a literal 2x2 closet but they dedicate two full rooms to playspace AND the kids get their own room (which is LOVELY) but the parents sleep in a murphy bed in the hall and an air mattress? what? and half of the kitchen is a play space.. you could easily take away half the play areas in the apartment and give those back to the adults/family to use and it would still be a great place for children to live.

So she renovates the apartment; eradicating all adult spaces, forcing him to sleep on an air mattress in the foyer every night. My guess? The reason why she gave her kids the bedroom is because the kids go to bed much earlier than her and her husband. With the kids sleeping in the bedroom, both parents have the freedom to move around the rest of the home (and watch TV) without worrying about making noise and waking the kids. The bedroom was initially hers and her husband’s, but now that her twins are no longer babies, she felt it would be more practical to give the kids the bedroom instead. Many people here are telling her she's using her space wrong, or she is prioritizing the wrong things. She's happy, and it works for her and her family. She's very creative in how she creates dedicated spaces for things outs of a regular one-bedroom apartment. Her children will have great memories of living there.

She had better get ready to be a single mom. This space screams "You aren't needed" to the dad.

I recently moved into my first apartment at 600 sq ft and I've never really had my own room so this space feels massive for me. Props to your creativity for adapting 650 sq ft for your family.

I really hope this apartment is rent controlled at a low price because that would make it even more worth it. She did a wonderful job keeping the space open and bright and still making room for everyone.

@@lanniklein6574 it says it's a rental. Honestly a lot of people here in NYC rent, and rent long term so it's worth it to paint and put up shelves

Yeah i thought the same thing. The rent has to be “low” (by NYC standards) or rent controlled too. Otherwise, why invest so much energy into making a small apartment work for a growing family. She did good job at accomplishing what she wanted though. Im amazed at the amount of stuff in there while still maintaining an airy feeling.

Rent contol ended in 1971 in NYC. The only way she is rent controlled is if she lived in the apartment with a relative before the relative died and she took over the apartment through rights of succession. I think you confused rent control with rent stabalized apartments, then you have a one or two year lease and the rent goes up by a set percentage. It is amazing that the ceilings hold up all that weight. My guess it is not a historic building with plastered ceilings. She really loves this apartment and has made it work for her and her family. She is very thoughtful to make the apartment all about the kids.

Room for everyone? There is literally a miniscule of space set aside for the parents. It's alarming.

So... The kids have basically the entire living room, THE KITCHEN, and their own bedroom, and a closet for their specific benefit?? No. No thank you. We had a 2 & 3 y/o during the pandemic, living in an apartment, and STILL kept our room to ourselves. (Honestly, I wish I'd thought of the swing, thats genius.) Homegirl HAS to be inventive because she's given up her entire house to the kids!

The parents sleeping on a twin Murphy bed and a blow up mattress is bonkers!

Just wow! I’m inspired. I watch studio and small apartment tours all the time bc I recently downsized and this may have been the most organized and functional I’ve seen. I can’t imagine sharing such a small space with my family but still she did amazing. She seems genuinely happy with it as well ❤

As someone who grew up and still live in NYC, these parents most likely also have a home upstate NY, where they go on the weekends and long holidays. The City Apt is probably because of the Husband’s job and the children’s expensive private school.

I love all of the kid's things and spaces. It feels like a Montessori classroom, so engaging with lots of opportunities to create and explore! Your organization is impressive and the calming colors are inviting!

She is very creative, but this is way to child centered for me. I can’t imagine my husband having a blowup mattress while my kids have most of the apartment.
