This might seem too basic but it isn't. Nowhere does anyone actually physically demonstrate watering houseplants. So a huge thank you for doing this Summer. It's very helpful and the visual makes it so much easier to understand.

I can't say enough how much I love the more scientific approach you give in all of your videos. I have such a hard time when I'm looking up care tips for a new type of plant and videos come up with suggestions like "I've never fertilized this plant and I don't really know how much light it gets but it does great in this area of my house!" I feel no shame that I just watched 30 minutes about plant watering! I learned stuff and I've been keeping plants for years!

Oversized pots can also be a problem. There aren't enough roots to soak up the extra moisture, so the soil doesn't dry out.

oh my goodness! Thank you so much for this tip, I keep on wondering why small plants must be on a small pots while they could jst plant it in a bigger pots right away, to skip the hassle of repotting. 😂😂😂 Now know why 😆
@jerrywhidby.
@jerrywhidby. 3 года назад
@@agegraciously6926 you're welcome. It is also bad to put rocks in the bottom of your pots. Gravity will only pish so much water out of the soil. The very bottom of the soil will stay wet. You move that water line up when you add rocks. This can cause root rot, because your plant is sitting in water.

You probably already know this, but to be safe, I'll mention it. Solely drinking distilled water for long periods of time can eventually can lead health disorders due to mineral leaching through osmosis. hey summer, thank you for this 101 series, they’re really great and even I know a lot about plants I love to watch your videos to dive even deeper into plant care. actually, when I water my plants I leave them on the saucer to soak up the water. if the water is still in the saucer after about a couple hours, I will of course toss it into the sink (to avoid overwatering). I do this with all my plants (except my gasterias) and all really do thrive :)

Now I learned that it may actually be my water that's the problem! We have pretty hard water with a lot of minerals in it. So this may be the reason they have those dry tips, from too much minerals? I live and work in Riyadh and have some sun-loving plants on my window sill but the soil can become over-dry in between watering so that when it is time to water it runs right through and the soil doesn't have the ability to soak or retain. I try to counter this by using a watering can with fine rose (very small holes) and I also make a mental note of how heavy my pots feel if the soil retains water (and how light they feel when in need of water). Hey Summer! I LOVE your videos. Wish I found these years ago, because I killed a lot of plants learning the hard way, LOL. I have a watering tip I thought I would share! I have 44 houseplants at the moment and I have had as many as 70 I think. I always water my plants in the kitchen sink so I can be sure to water all of the surface area in the pots, and then I can let the water completely drain out before returning it back to its home in the house. I also place a large towel on the counter next to the sink where I place the pots after watering to catch any remaining water drops left in the pot. Sometimes it takes me an hour to do water all of them, but they all stay nice and hydrated, and it is very rare now that I have a plant die on me now! I hope that helps anyone who is concerned with under or over-watering their plants :)
