Gee, and here you all were saying how great our economy is. I guess it's only great for some people.

Can’t stay in business when only two out of ten people actually pay for their stuff.

Imagine if u need to buy a membership to shop at Walmart 😅 that would be crazy….well thanks to shoplifters….

99 cents stores are very popular in Japan(100 yen in here). They help for the people with low income. You can get almost everything from $1-$10 I think society needs these kind of stores.

It's sad to say but it may be alot more closures ahead smh

I don't think I would trust the quality of frozen meat at the 99¢ store.

If you are going to live in the country learn to speak the language, also I think the owners are lying to the public.

I agree that corporate greed is just insane lately. Little cup size ice cream in whole foods made by "Jose and Juan LLC" they are selling around $9. How in the world 2 cups of milk, 2 table spoons of sugar, 2 table spoons of cream with 15 cents package became $9? But on the other side I don't think honestly people need a lot of food to live a decent life. I grew up in Soviet Union, - we needed after 1991 to plant our own veggies to survive. So those people in our community far away from this survival. They also need to limit their appetites where veggies and chicken twice a week will be sufficient. Get 50 pounds of rice, get buckwheat, get macaroni. They are dirt cheap especially when you are buying in bulk. Get the veggies. Stop buying canned drinks. Lady yesterday in front of me with her kid picked up in front of me pack of cola. Learn about some farmers south of Houston. For example Cambodian community South Houston growing their veggies and then selling to stores. You probably can buy those directly as well.

Im 43 years old. Worked since i was 14. I currently make 143k but im still self aware enough to know that for a overwhelming majority of people is better to be a scammer than a hard working person....the government is just preying on the ppl trying to do the right and honest thing...i completely understand

Most of of the stuff is junk anyway. You can still shop at Aldi or Walmart.

The hardest hit are our elderly who are on a fixed income. Many already have to choose between paying bills or buying food. It's a darn shame 99 cent CEO felt closing all 300 plus stores was his only option.

This is intolerable. Food insecurity is very real problem in cities. I volunteered for a food bank in San Francisco and the people who received the food were forever grateful for whatever was provided. It's a very humbling experience to see. Some of these major corporate grocery stores should take over 99 cents and provide them with financial backing as a public pro bono service. God knows they sure know how extract every dollar from us who can afford to buy groceries despite the price. Food is a fundamental life necessity. No IFs ANDs, or BUTs about it. People have to eat
