I agree 100%. haven't been there in over 5 years but I traditionally would travel there at least once a year from 2001 to about 2016 for work. I love the Night Life especially when I was younger (Galleria District etc) and the food so many different options, from Goode Company BBQ to Ninfas Mexican and little dives nobody from out of town would ever know.
Spot on analogy, I’m a 53 year old native. The food is great too- BQ Mexican, Cajun, Asian, Persian,SoulFood, I mean dang near every culture has a restaurant here, peace
This is old historic fifth ward, it's being slowly gentrified, some of these houses are over seventy years old. It's right by downtown and these corporations are trying to buy them out to build their condos and townhouses.
Is it near the Convention Center behind the freeway? maybe outside of the 610 loop? I have been through that area to Ninfas original Mexican Restaurant. (incredible food as you probably know). I used to work at Hardware /Paint Tradeshows at the Convention Center. Houston has a soft spot in my Heart, I really enjoyed the Food and Nightlife in the Galleria District when I was in my 20's. Post 2000
Just moved here 2 months ago never seen this side before thanks for sharing bro this is a eye opener to be grateful for what you do have and thank God everyday because we're fortunate enough to live better!
The house I grew up in already got torn down and they moving in with them town houses. I drove by trying to show my kids where I grew up but it was gone.
I've been living in houston for 6 years now, and all I've seen are new houses, until i took a detour through 5th ward, wow some houses look like they have been there since the early 1900s
My Japanese-American wife's parents are both from Houston. I was expecting them both to speak with heavy Japanese accents, but then I heard them talk and they had that Houston hood dialect. My wife's parents grew up in the hood while my wife grew up as a tree-hugging softie from Sugar Land.
Honestly, I didn't expect to see this in Houston. I wonder if this area is far from the Lyndon Johnson Mission Control Center? In the 80s and 90s, I was very interested in the history of the development of the space programs of the USA and the USSR and decided to write about it in letters sent to the space center to astronauts John Glenn, John Young and Neil Armstrong. To my delight they all answered me. Now these relics in the form of letters and autographed photographs are carefully kept at my home in St. Petersburg. Good luck to everyone!
This area is actually pretty far from the space center. Also, only a small portion of Houston looks like this. Mostly found on the east/southeast parts of town. And the other thing people should know, is that even though this may be a “hood”, hoods in Houston are different. People who live there are still nice, and will be friendly to you if you see them (Mostly, you should still use discernment, as there will always be some crazy people around).
What a beautiful blue sky! Living in Michigan right now, I really miss the sun! But that place also looks like it could be Hades in the summer. Are all those blocks of empty boarded up houses from the flooding Houston had a while back?
I don't think it's from the Floods as much as it's last family moved out and nobody came in. vacant homes kind of like the 'Detroit' effect. another commenter below mentioned this is not far from Downtown and corporations are purchasing the land to demo many of these locations and put up condos etc. Gentrification. it's been happening in patches inside & outside of downtown Houston for decades.
@@Original-Juice This is good news, otherwise those empty lots become derelict and lost, and someone is paying for it somewhere. Better to put it to good use and have the space available for residential or retail.
Sad they are tearing history down; if only they can just make it better; love history and these are peoples homes for generations; we all love our history brings back lots of memories. Thank you.
If your ever in Jersey go to Millville and Bridgeton there very violent rural cities right next to each other 💯you definitely will find some good content down there and Vineland too
@@FixIt1975 Vineland is the best out of all of them but Vineland is bad in certain parts most of is good tho but Millville and Bridgeton are some messed up cities and Salem is crazy too
@@tunedtfin917 I almost forgot about Pennsgrove. Charlie needs to roll through there too. I was going out with this girl from there almost 20 years ago and it was pretty shitty then back in 04

Every city in America has neighborhoods that look like this. Isn't anything new. I been here for 41 years. Tell all the new people moving in not to come here and they still are.
I grew up in 3rd ward Houston on milby st and Anita st and tuam st and the people haven't changed they always look out for one another the only thing that has change are the buildings/houses ...if your ever in the 3rd ward area stop by Cream burger on the corner of Scott and Elgin
@@j.campbell8491 Many southerners don’t group Texas with the south, they group it in with the west, especially our demographics, that’s why I just say Texas is Texas
It's a very historic area. Very uncredited fir so unfortunately everything has been bought and is soon to be a variety of multi million dollar developments. My patient lives 3 blocks over in a gated community that didn't exist when I was a child. I hope the markers of the path the slaves took here from Galveston Island remain. If anything
Brought up here and still live here in Houston. This is what I was told the bad side of town, these people don't take care of their homes, but the welfare sure pays for those nice cars. Never could understand the concept of that.
Well you are a democrat. And Dems live by their ignorance, ignoring the poverty you send people towards. You grew up in that city yet have never seen that neighborhood?
I really didn't see anything bad in this video other than the guy making this video driving down the same streets to show a few black people sitting out enjoying the day, but I guess some people will consider that raw hoods for that reason alone.
Do any of these people have jobs,.I guess they have to drive a.distance.to find a job and many may not have cars allthough some look like they have nice cars. Vicious cycle I'm sure but if your poor enough you can get all.soeta of aid and college grants
White ppl sure know how to hate and get jealous of our thriving communities and ruin them by burning them to the ground with help from the higher ups like black wall street in Tulsa and the hundreds of other thriving black areas during the red summer of i believe 1920 look it up. And every time we try to come up on our own without y'all, y'all use the power yall have to bring it down but y'all out in the position y'all in cus of us we created all the music genres, we are the better atheletes, better cooks, better dancers, and way more creative and can turn nothing into something. Y'all hate us but wanna be us.smh
