Hi, i thought i found a hoverfly larvae, it was on a cabbage plant, eating aphids. and it looked like a cabbage white butterfly larvae except it was eating an aphid and moved quicker than a caterpillar, it was the same colour green. i'm in Dandenong VIC. did i misidentify? i was stoaked because lady beetles and their larvae fall off cabbages, they cannot seem to be able to traverse the smooth skin of a cabbage plant, and i always get aphids on them and nothing seemed to control them on my cabbages and cauliflowers. thanks for your time. i only found you via an email from SGA about a masterclass you are giving soon, unfortunately, i cannot afford to come, but now i've found your RU-vid, i'll be watching your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for reaching out! The insect you found is almost certainly a hover fly larva. The other beneficial insect which attacks cabbage aphids is the cabbage aphid parasite - a wasp. I made a video about that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-40qZm-shHE8.html A pity you will miss the SGA Masterclass. They are usually a lot of fun! 🙂
