Great job on this repair. When you do a repair you not only save someone money. You save the world from excessive consumerism and a culture of throwing away perfectly repairable items. Rock on my dude
Let's talk about how the majority of running/walking shoes are basically unusable after being worn. And how it's unfortunately cheaper to throw them away. Like this basically only makes sense for expensive shoes.
@@anotherjoshua Not necessarily. I mean, the shoe in the video does look like overpriced crap. But that aside, if you bought a pair of shoes for $1,000 that lasted you dozens of years, or even a lifetime, that's still so much better than buying dozens of $50 or $100 shoes, changing them every year etc.
@@theandroids For a repair like that, absolutely. But I now understand that some of my shoes that I might have otherwise written off still have hope. I would always get an estimate, of course.
@@patrickgrady7505 Are you kidding?! I don't mind paying the Big Bucks--so, I get most of my shoes at Costco...[also, usually stop for a slice of pizza, and a sundae]
I'm surprised by the comments. People seem to be blown away by entry level skills. This was not some mind blowing repair. He didnt fill it right, didn't retexture it, and you can clearly see the paint lines. You could train a new guy to do this repair in a week to his level of quality.
I'm curious to know how much this restoration costs. There's a certain point where I want to ask myself if it's worth it to get something repaired or replaced
We live in a world that it's cheaper to replace than repair. To repair normal shoes is already more expensive to buy one and it's custom that repair to expensive items will also be quite expensive ( I mean, if the customer can buy 1k shoes and let the dog chew them, I'm sure they have quite a lot of money, so your prices can be very high; expert work is also expensive) It becomes a choice to repair rather than replace. Of you have good quality shoes and you like them a lot, do repair! It's good for the environment and it's anti-comsumerism ! I personally don't fully repair my shoes but paying for them to be glued or fix small holes the soles is a must do and things like these are an okay price in my area!
Are you familiar with Blockchain technology? a company that allow you earn mined coin on the bitcoin network without owning a Bitmain antminer, with such an investment you can definitely plan for this summer vacation,

Although I'll never understand someone spending 1000$ on shoes, the quality, attention to detail, and skill on display here is just a pleasure to watch.
Hey, at least they're supporting the work of hardworking artisans and helping them keep their lights on, rather than paying Gucci corp for another one.
The _only_ reason to buy Gucci products is to have a status symbol. Need to let everyone else know that you're rich just by looking at you. You can get ugly shoes like that for far less money and from places that are also free of child labor and slavery. So there are really no other reasons I can think of.
@@TheBoomsonic I guess that this could be done by taking prints of the actual shoe's leather on parts that are clear of bites then you apply them on the paint
@@johnwt7333 I guess it all depends on a person's perspective. I'd be ashamed of myself if I were to spend that much on a pair of shoes, but that's because I'm not into fashion or fancy stuff. I'd rather grab a $10 pair of shoes at Payless and spend the rest traveling to somewhere I've never been. But to each their own. I encourage folks to do what brings them joy. (Well, as long as they're not going to end up with crushing debt at the end of it. 😉) I can totally understand spending more on something because the quality and durability is worth it, but sometimes expensive doesn't equal quality. For instance, I bought myself a $100 pair of Danskos when I graduated from nursing school over 20 YEARS AGO, and those bad boys are STILL going strong after having worn them to every single shift since then. I love my Danskos! 💜
@@IAmSuzyQ that's quality. And thanks to that quality you didn't have to buy new shoes every x months. That's good for the environment and for your wallet.
@@johnwt7333🎯 Exactly! Not only are they good on my wallet and our environment, they're good on my feet and legs! Anytime I hear another nurse complaining about foot pain, I look down and see they're not wearing Danskos. Most of the time they're wearing those Crocks monstrosities.🙄 Those rubber things are wrong in ever single way, and have no place in a hospital. All those holes are actually dangerous. If I drop a needle it's not getting through the thick leather of my Danskos, but you're guaranteed to get a poke in Crocks. Nope. No Crocks for me. Anyway, back to the point... I've literally never heard anyone who's wearing Danskos complain. If you know anyone who works long shifts on their feet, do them a favor and suggest that they give 'em a try. They are a dream! Edit: I sound like a rep for Danskos but I swear I don't work for them. I do, however, work in them. 😉
Wow, what great work! Must give him great satisfaction to do these repairs. I also appreciate how well the video was made, expert camera work, voice over and editing.
@@mi3helle707 so, in my humble and upper middle class opinion: There's really nothing wrong with liking wealth, or spending good money on a quality product. I mean like a good dependable automobile or well built home. *yet, some folks are really out there pretending that someone is going to literally approach a classy lady and demand that she hand over her handbag for a thorough and expert evaluation of the authenticity of the brand?!!* I've seen a LOT of good knockoffs, yet I have NEVER even once seen someone get embarrassed because they were "found out" by well placed, trained handbag inspectors at any good party or club. Not once. 🤷🏻♂️😂😂
@@d.cypher2920 Exactly, and some of the knockoffs cost the same amount as the REAL thing. I agree, I'm all for buying something that's worth it especially say a house. Clothes, hmmm no, happy to pay extra for good quality but not an extortionate amount.
@@mi3helle707 indeed. You know, when I was young...and like anyone else in 'insecure camp'... aka high school, I really didn't understand why my dad was so cheap, and frugal with his money. But, I remember how brutal being a teenager was, and I didn't want them to have to worry about that kind ofi insecurity on top of all things teen.* So I just caved most often, and let them get what they wanted. @@ValentinePlay didn't i say I'm shoemaker? Lol, no bro that's not even severe grade of deformation, it's only toes this can be fixed really easily, for missing pieces you need to use resin and a hammer to push it down to make it look straight but this is meaning less since when you walk doesn't matter new shoes or old it will start to take deformation shape because is logical
@@ValentinePlay I'm saying this because is how i fix my own made shoes also i can just build new ones but that just too much time so some quick fix, btw i have like 20 pairs lol
@@ValentinePlay that's it, repair it, i can make it to look like new without charging a restoration, if not a repair, you didn't understand my first message
Is it just Me or does anybody else see imperfections with the color and also the filling as there’s some pitting going on but hey I’m not shoe expert and didn’t even know something like that could be repaired so great work
I still see the denting where the filler didn't fill properly and, even though the color is correct, he didn't do anything to replicate the texture so it literally just looks like painted leather with little craters on each side. It's not a horrible restoration but its definitely not masterful.
@@BUSHhoehh It also looks and feels like a pretty...basic repair job, but the video is trying to make it sound like it's way more fancy than that. All he really did was glue the leather back together, filled it, and then painted it with what looks to be regular paint. It doesn't even seem to be leather pigment or anything. It looks like the same stuff you'd find in the walmart's paint section. And the results aren't that impressive.
Really nice job repairing the shoe. I like your video about the steps you took in the repair and detailed information making it easy to follow. That being said, I guess I'm the only poor person on the internet tonight looking at those shoes. I don't see what's in a pair of shoes that makes it worth $1,000 and I don't care what name you stamp on something. At the end of the road it's all just dust and dirt why things cost $1,000 that look just like plain old leather to me. maybe I'm just a poor person that don't know quality. I don't know enjoy your wealth enjoy whatever makes you happy I suppose. I still ain't giving no $1,000 for no pair of shoes.
I do admire your sincere effort in trying to repair this shoe. I am curious however, why you did not apply another fine layer of filler, as the damage can still be seen underneath the paint.
This is beautiful. Really, i couldn't look away for the entire length of the video! And somehow, I think that them having been repaired makes these shoes more precious rather than expensive. It would gladden me ever more to see such work being 'commonly' done on medium and lower level shoes (by price), though. Imagine how cool it would be if skillfully repaired things were considered fashionable and somewhat proper. Ah, to do away with dirt-cheap things that by design are made not to last! My more reasonable/pragmatic (and less romantic) friends argue that this would hurt many industries, but doesn't that make us hostages to nowadays' consumerism culture? I mean, that's really, really sad, when you think about it. We have less and less lasting things that we cherish.
Excellent work!!! My dog did this to my brand new shoes I wore only once. They weren't worth 1000.00 (180.00 to be exact) - I was very upset. But I found an amazing shoe repair shop in town. You guys are amazing!!
Most 180 dollar pairs of shoes in my experience are Air Jordan retros which are released and limited supply almost every time and cost a lot more to replace if you buy used from a reseller especially to get them in perfect condition
I'm guessing the person narrating is not a native English speaker because there is a lot of pronunciations that just sound weird. Like "leather" sounds like "weather" and "sand" sounds like "stand". And "acrylic" sounded like "a quick"
I have riding boots that I sometimes get adjusted/repaired- can run you anywhere from $30 for something like a patch to $70-80 for a zipper replacement or letting boots out/taking them in to $150+ for repairing damage like this.
Not worth the cost tbh those shoes are $600-800 and repairs can cost up to $300... By the time your shoe is ruined, your shoe is out of style or on sale for almost as much as the repair.
The fact that someone has the guts to ask such an insane price for these ordinary looking shoes and people (however rich they are) are paying for it is worrying me.
They pay to get exclusive shoes most never get. The shoes doesn't need to be anything special. They only need to be rare and expensive. It's nothing more than a status symbol. Without the big Gucci logo, the shoes would cost 100$.
I am wondering how long can the repair last if the shoe is worn regularly or it is like the kind of restoration that goes only for display like in the museums..nice skills btw
Depending on the user if the user knows how to look after their things even the cheapest things can stay for years and will still look new 🤷🏽♀️I have cheapest and fake things for 8 to 10 years and still looks new

I was wondering what's the big deal about Gucci? are the products really worth the price(durability, comfort) or is it just a status symbol purchase( hey look at me)
Status symbol 100%. Part of the price is the materials + the fact that they're handmade (or so they claim) but they're still not worth a full grand. The only thing I'd expect to pay that much for a pair of is 100% custom fit and design tall riding boots with multiple adjustments and fittings (not that I'd ever buy them lol- I get my boots used and then have them adjusted at the local cobblers shop)
@@dreaming-of-spots6805 it cost much is bcz rent, bills, workers, designers, etc, the leather is expensive too but not big deal i worked as a whole seller company in leather the most used is french boxcalf like 100€ a 100x100cm, and it's not handmade, those are just marketing bcz I'm a shoemaker and as much of handmade they claim is hand cutting patterns, glue, or operate a machine with "hands" hahahhah
I want to know the exact tools and products he used. Great video, succinct video, but if I want try to do this myself. I guess you could watch it for the craftsmsnship, but I watching it bc in a DIYer.
Yes! This is so bizarre. It makes me think these comments must all be fake. Surely people would see the color difference and how the thick layer of paint fills in the texture of the material. Not to mention that he got some paint underneath where the material is stitched together. This does not seem like quality work to me, I am so confused.
Depending on what happened to the leather and where the damage is, I would consider a dyed patch (if there's a hole/tear) instead, esp if it's on the part of the seat where your body's in regular contact. Paint will rub off real quick if it's on the part where you sit. If it's just some spots where the color has rubbed off completely on a dark leather, you can dab some oil on to make it a lot less noticeable (dab, not soak, either with a qtip for tiny spots or a rag or cotton ball for larger ones). Neatsfoot is my favorite for darkening things, it'll turn raw leather a lovely chocolate brown. Clean it before you oil it and then after, let it sit for a few hours before you drive (unless you don't mind a bit of oil on your clothes) though! (I'm not a leatherworker- I just work with horses and have cleaned + repaired a lot of horse tack.)
I always assume they’re worn as house shoes. Like, you come home, take off your regular outside shoes, then slip on your house shoes that never step across the threshold to outdoors. Kinda like slippers. Also, wear white ON Labor Day, assert dominance, give no fucks.
👍Really good leather restructuring 👍❗ On the other hand, I will never understand the existence of people who buy such a *terribly ugly type of slipper* and above all with a *crazy cost*
They don't cost 1000 dollars, they charge you that amount for them. Quite different. If you have that kinda of money for such a frivolous item why bother repairing it??
Oh my goodness!.... I so needed this for my my beautiful white leather dress shoes that were damged and instead, I threw them away not realizing that they could've both been repaired & salvaged!.... 😔
Well, I can imagine a scenario where my friends and contacts to the high society events all wear these kinds of shoes and clothing. If I don't fit in I can't communicate with them or secure my spot on high society.
Because you’re not the target market for high end products therefore you wouldn’t understand why people would buy these.l because we simply don’t have the money to do so. The target market for these products are rich people because rich people would spend more on luxury products because its a status sorta thing.
I could get this pair of slippers for $1000 or I could get this pair of still very excellent and expensive slippers for $100 and give $100 to 9 homeless people and feed them for a week. All for the price of a brand, and I bet the $100 pair is more comfortable.
