FIVE PEOPLE did the VFX on this??? If you have seen this movie you know how absolutely mind blowing that is. What a feat in filmmaking. I've been griping lately about how theaters are empty and cinema is dead. I went to see this on a weekday evening and it was packed and ALIVE. Everyone laughing, crying and engaged. Word of mouth is king. Tell your friends and family. This is a 1 of 1. See it on the big screen while you still can.

While I was sitting in the theater, I thought to myself “I really appreciate how this movie doesn’t treat you like an idiot, and lets you discover the emotional depth behind the symbolism for yourself”. Then I left the theater and read dozens of reviews calling it “gen Z tik tok marvel-meets-rick-and-morty nonsense”, and I realized that no matter how much faith Everything Everywhere put in its audience, there were still definitely idiots in attendance.

It had a budget of 25M, so it was relatively high for an indie. But they used every penny very well. Their experience with creative but low budget music videos helped them a lot. I would compare it to The Green Knight which also looks absolutely gorgeous with awesome effects and its budget was $15M
@theprowler18

@@nataliajimenez1870 inflation has made production budgets completely astronomical, due in part to actors pay day, reshoots, issues on/off set, and the unpredictable winds of Word of Mouth. The 25 million is literally pennies on the dollar in contrast to what most studios spend these days. It makes the efforts on here and definitely The Green Knight (I personally enjoyed it) all the more impressive. Like if you pay attention to scenes like when they show shots of the alphaverse, it's pretty clear they didn't have the biggest budget on it, considering the set pieces and the costumes, but it's so good at immersing you in the story regardless, that it doesn't really pull you out of the story, and it's not like it looks bad either, you can just tell they had a tight budget.

"Best Visual" usually go for gigantic blockbusters with $100M more in budget than EEAAO. Not just the winners but the nominees. It's just not a fair competition. Also, around Oscar time, all the big studios go on a marketing blitz. Billboards, advertisement, sending their stars to talk shows, etc. Those help sway the Oscar voters toward their films. The reason this looks so good is because most of these effects are practical, or have a lot of practical elements. That's why Star Wars looks so good even today- practical is always better if you can swing it! Unfortunately, film practical effect artists are almost always union workers, and big movie companies like Disney prefer to make everything CG so they can get away with underpaying people (unions mean higher salaries!), but that's another story entirely. What a freakin amazing movie!
@elsonlam
@elsonlam 2 года назад
That depends on what's needed to be done. For example, a lot of the effects in Disney movies are easier to make on computers than in real life. (Imagine the cost of building all the stuff for a MCU film). Another big reason why Disney prefer CGI is that they're able reuse them. There are ~30 MCU films, all connected, with many more on the way. It's easier for animators to pull up old stuff on a computer and reuse them. Or edit them slightly into something different. They could just put the actors in front of the green screen and pull up some background they made 10 years ago. Done. EEAAO is a 1 time movie. The stuff they make will not get used again. It was the right decision to stick with practical effects. Disney is playing the long game. With a gazillion Star Wars and MCU films on the way, it's just cheaper for them to keep stuff computers and reuse them.
@justalostlocal
@justalostlocal 2 года назад
@@elsonlam You think DISNEY lack the money to pull off practical effects? The corporation and shareholders are so money hungry that they rather "save" budgets, put directors on tight deadlines plus not compensating artists than play the long game of taking time plus investing money to make sth lasting out of IPs they bought. It's always about the quick money for shareholders that's why big franchises Star War and Marvel looks so generic and have hollow, standardised storylines.

I've been a filmaker for like 12/13 years. This movie instantly became my favourite film ever. What they achieved with this film. 100% prooves that the massive studio model most of the movies that get released today under. Shouldn't be the future of filmmaking. This should. small crew, who are exceptionally talented. Not 1000000 people + corporate studio interference mind you. When you have a massive corp like marvel, they're primary concern is making a profit. A small indy crew like this their primary concern is to make an incredible film. The results speak for them selves. One is a heartwarming original story. thgats well written, produced, acted, mixed shot. The other is BIG_MOVIE_PHASE_465_prt_7 They shot this in 38 days. In primarily one location. Endgame took 10 months. Shot all over the world. But it just goes to show. 5 talented artists that are well directed create a better more believable visuial product than a multibillion dollar production giant. why? Too many cooks + studio interference.

I imagine miniscule stuff like the trailer hierarchy is a big part of why a project that can be realistically/logistically be done in months are done in half a year. Things that are not really necessary to the project making.
@Lightgrenadez7777
@Lightgrenadez7777 7 месяцев назад
@@cheesecakelasagna im a bit confused by your questions can i ask you to rephrase so i can give you the rght answer? the trailer doesnt have much impact on shooting scheulde usually. dont get me wrong there are productions that do and it can be common. but its not a common thing to plan the shooting schedule of the drafted trailer concept. they are more likey to have a rough idea in pre production. then half way through shooting start cutting the trailer. and then finish and polish in post. making drops and additions to the trailer along the way. is that what your asking ???
@cheesecakelasagna
@cheesecakelasagna 7 месяцев назад
@@Lightgrenadez7777 My bad, I meant literal trailer vehicles. I guess that so tangential detail seeped in the front of my mind since I recently watched a video where a guy was given a trailer even though his role is essentially a cameo as a way to give him the Hollywood treatment since he's a big part in the fandom of the movie they were making. And other stuff that makes one feel like you're stepping up in Hollywood that's not necessarily related to the actual filmmaking itself.

MoM just seemed like endless romp through SFX with a vague story draped over it, whearas EEAaO was a fully-fledged film. I feel like EEAaO achieved what MoM couldn't because of the special effects. Zak knocks it on the head with "It really needs to stay grounded in what's going on in the strory, the visual effects should never overtake that."
