I was unfortunately born into this religion. Always had a feeling that something was off. My parents were brainwashed into worshiping Moon, a false messiah who claims he is Jesus. My dad wasted his college degree for this religion, he spent all his time fundraising working like a slave for Sung Myong Moon and his family. So did all of the other church members. This video doesn't even scratch the surface of what goes on behind the curtains. Churches are a tax free business and Moon died with a net worth of $900 million, meanwhile all the followers lived in absolute poverty. So I understand why Tetsuya Yamagami did what he did because this church ruined not only his life but millions of others as well. edit: I don't condone what he did, just saying I'm not surprised by this event in the slightest.. also my family has left the cult a while back, we are doing fine now.

@@aubreysong well, it just goes straight to Moon’s family. The money is also given to politicians who will endorse them, and other business investments to make more money. The church also created The Washington Times Newspaper. My little brother snuck up to the top floor once. It’s a really elegant interior, but he said the top floor was super dingy and dimly lit.. it was after normal working hours so he thought it’d be empty, but after going up he saw a bunch of church members hunched over, just typing away in the dark. Then they all turned their heads at the same time and just stared at him. He got out after being chased by a security guard.

Yeah, Moon has been here long before and has paid politicians for testimonies to gain power & influence in America. The church also created The Washington Times Newspaper to spread their influence. My lil brother snuck into it once, saw some weird stuff on the top floor. I was born into this crap. Members are brainwashed into working their behind off for no pay, and it's all for a false messiah. The recruiters or "spiritual parents" target young college students (basically a pyramid scheme for the arranged marriage thing, recruit 3 people, you get to get married). Anyways, my Dad ended up wasting his college degree for this church, gave up everything. We grew up poor. They go around in vans fund raising 12+ hours a day, sometimes no sleep if they don't hit money quotas. The movement is still extremely prevalent in parts of the US, it's a gigantic religion, but luckily most of the other 2nd generation people in my state seem to have left the church. Doubt I'll ever become religious after all this stuff.

Impressive that they digged a deep investigation into motivation behind the assassination when it was already obvious who did it. I truly believe the fact that they did this is the very prime reason why homicide rate in Japan is low. Most other places would simply jail the person and give 0 f*ck for the reasons why he decided to assassinate someone. When you study reasons into homicide it helps you to prevent future incidents.
@jeremyjackson7429
@jeremyjackson7429 21 день назад
I saw a video explaining this phenomenon. Japanese people are more likely to assign collective blame rather than individual blame. When someone does a heinous crime, their superiors and acquaintances are also likely to be blamed. As a collective society, they're more likely to assign blame that encompasses the entire group instead of solely the single individual.
@Sanakudou
@Sanakudou 21 день назад
I’m personally quite skeptical of the accuracy of their homicide rates in Japan, especially if they’re calculating based on convictions and not dead bodies, because until fairly recently there was a statue of limitation on homicide, which meant if you didn’t catch the killer in a set amount of time, they would get away with it, even if you later found irrefutable proof of their guilt they couldn’t be charged for the crime. So, depending on how Japan’s murder rate is calculated, it could be quite misleading, perhaps it’s still dramatically lower than other countries but still not AS low as the statistics insinuate. It’s something I’d have loved to verify myself but due to the data coming from Japanese source it really requires a Japanese speaking individual to truly be able to investigate the integrity of the data being used for this statistic. Regardless, I think the most simplest explanation for why this investigation occurred is the fact it was a high profile political figure that was assassinated, with it occurring right in front of a multitude of main stream journalists/TV crews who captured everything as it unfolded. The innovative and unique murder weapon on its own was also enough to ensure it’d be impossible for any member of the general public to be satisfied with a reductive explanation of “political extremism” as the motive for the murder. The sympathetic backstory of the killer also seems to go viral online instantly after the crime occurred, adding even more intrigue. Bizarrely specific crimes always prompt the public’s desire for equally specific explanations.

@@Sanakudou Good point, reminds me of their homeless population rate. The streets are generally clean, few homeless people, but in reality there are many homeless people that sleep in an office or a capsule hotel. They try their best to blend in with society due to the stigma and shame. In regards to the murder rate I think you're right that it's much lower than other countries, but it could be difficult to get an accurate number.

It makes a sort of good sense if you think about it. They hate political violence and are sad to see Abe, someone whom they knew as their leader and who some of them voted for, die violently. Yet at the same time they understand Yamagami's situation and the pain and misery that drove him to do what he did, basically take justice into his own hands when the corruption of the system denied him it. So they have sympathy for both men, and would save both if they could.

I was at that station where he was shot just a couple days earlier. You bet I was surprised. O_o I've actually met a number of Unification church members back in 2014 to 2015, and one of my friends' mother was literally showing us photos of Reverend Moon and explaining it. She was really deep into it, but I could tell he wasn't. I met a newly married couple that actually explained the mass wedding thing to me. He was American and his wife Japanese, and he explained to me that they basically set up arranged marriages from their parents, so they knew each other. I noticed that they seemed to encourage international marriages. I actually wonder what has happened to those couples since the assassination, whether they stayed or split. It's been a very strange time for us to be back living in Japan, but I haven't heard anything like that again since 2015 at least. The other one to note is Soka Gakkai, a modern Nichiren Buddhism sect that has a lot of business ties. I learned from one guy that they own Daiso, the most popular 100 yen shop chain in the country, among other well known business.

Its not that deep lol. A political assassination is extremely uncommon and it happened only once in Japan’s post ww2 history. Naturally people will want to understand the motive. Yes, people in Japan are very sympathetic towards cult victims. You can't really go anywhere without seeing recruiting efforts by them. When I first moved to Japan, I was warned a dozen times about cults by different people. I think context needs to be given that many people protest Abe's funeral because it is costing I think it was $12 million from the government? Not specifically protesting a funeral for Abe but the cost of it. Despite sympathy, most people I know don't have an opinion on whether he should be released or not. I'm not sure a petition with 13k signitures is indicitive of Japanese sentiment (nor is my experience from those around me).

OBF, I appreciate the information you have shared. I had no idea about this. One suggestion: If you could attenuate the bass in your audio, it would make your voice clearer. You have a pleasant voice, and good pacing, but for me the audio sounds quite muddy. Bass gives fullness, richness, depth. But treble gives clarity. And for a serious, informative voiceover like this one, clarity is far more important. Other than that, keep up the good work!

I agree I am Japanese, but I have never thought of Shinzo Abe as a conservative or a nationalist. Since he became prime minister, the number of immigrants in Japan has increased dramatically, and he's brought a lot of foreign tourists into Japan, making Japan a tourist nation, and he's been so focused on diplomacy with the US that he's sort of done the US's bidding. Abe also gave the Northern Territories to Putin. Most of his policies so far have been liberal-leaning, so I don't understand why he was called conservative or far-right.
