He had Jewish background, he may have converted to Christianity or didn't have a choice since pak is very anti semitic country and there isn't any Jewish places of worship. His name is common Jewish name.
Great info, never heard his name, may be my ignorance but I think Pakistan's tradition is to forget the heros of Pakistan like AQK, Asghar Khan, Abdul Salam and many more, how unfortunate. Thank you for amazing & detailed backgrounds.

In Poland, before WW2 there were about 10% of Poles with Jewish origin. Many of them were Catholics: there is a distinction for Jewish origin and Judaism (as a religion). Turowicz sounds like Polish name for people with Jewish origin (not an orthodox though).
