The craziest thing is we haven’t had an AVERAGE pass rush since 2017 he’s doing this with the QB having a clean pocket imagine when we do get a pass rush
AJ was special when he was here at clemson, but this type of skill jump in one off season is incredible. Really proud of the guy and I hope he keeps getting better.
@@chuckmullens5909Devonta Smith cooked Derek Stingley Jr., Ceedee Lamb cooked Patrick Surtain II, Julio cooked pat Pete, AB cooked Chris Harris Jr., Terrell Owens cooked Champ Bailey, Randy Moss cooked Darelle Revis. The point is every corner has a guy that beats them so it doesn't take away from the corner themselves.
I was high on Terrell coming out and wondered why he wasn’t getting more love. Thought he was the 2nd best after Okudah followed by Diggs. Either way they definitely picked the right guy though 🤷🏽♂️
@@RilesPC even then he was never "torched" it was coachable mistakes. He struggled tracking the ball in the air but he kept of step for step with chase
Bro, I stumbled across your channel a couple days ago and I am thoroughly blown away by how in depth and detailed your breakdowns are. Keep up the good work!
This was my first time I watched any NFL break down, and WOW I'm really surprised by the amount of detail that goes into each play and the the way you broke down everything is really impressive, big up to you! Wish you all the success
Bro, AJ had a good rookie season in 2020 lol. The clip you showed in the Vikings game, of him getting beat by Jefferson at the end. We were blowing them out. And Raheem Morris was the intern head coach. And started to play prevent defense lol. He gave Jefferson that touchdown.
@@JG-on6vu Bro, I'm a die hard Falcons fan lol. And AJ Terrell had a "good' rookie season. I didn't say he had a "great " rookie season. Trevon Diggs gave up over a thousand yards last season. More than AJ rookie season in 2020 That's why "stats " aren't everything.
@@daveoo7642 absolutely not, diggs gave up the most yards in nfl history by a corner in coverage and was awful in his coverage grade, his picks balanced the scales, all the 12 year olds who have no clue about what can really matter in the football voted for him get outta here with this awful take 😂😂
@@jamesondonnell4054 you think someone who has the most ints in the last 40 yrs not gonna get a spot ? And also he had 5th most votes in the pro bowl but ok and he led league in pbus and 5thin passer rating but yea stay mad and keep dick riding a corner who was 29th ranked against wr1s
He also has the worst pass rush in the NFL, the team as a whole only had 18 sacks, TJ Watt had more by himself. He is hands down the best CB in the league and its not close.
This is fucking phenomenal work. I think we can chalk this up to all the copycatting of the Seahawks single-high, despite not having the personnel to make it work, was getting secondaries torched. Putting your CBs, especially young and inexperienced ones, on islands in zone coverage without elite safety help is a recipe for disaster. But the league has been trending back to more two-deep shells to slow down all the pass-happy vertical offenses the last few years. This jives with what Pees brought to the Falcons, and it seems especially suited for Terrell specifically. Smart zone corner who can play with proper technique at all times but also have 1st round athleticism. Very interesting that his man coverage also increased. I would bank on that being them cleaning up his technique, because as you pointed out he was playing too far off at release in "no man's land" where he's too far off to get hands on but too close to flat-foot things etc. If he can at least be "good" in man like he was last year while being a dominant zone corner, he's going to have a nice long career as a Pro Bowler. Side note, I wonder if this helps explain why PFF has been slamming almost every LB in coverage the last 2 years. You hit the nail on the head with that one catch, which was technically in his coverage area but not his direct fault, but more the scheme's fault. And I think that can help explain what might be going on with LBs. If defenses were running a lot of Cover-3 and offenses were going downfield in their gameplan to beat it or otherwise checking down underneath it, that doesn't leave too many opportunities for LBs to screw up in coverage. And those check downs give them opportunities to clean up with stops underneath which help boost coverage scores. But if defenses switch to running more 2-deep to slow down pass-happy offenses, then that means offenses are working the intermediate areas more often with route concepts specifically designed to prey on the LBs underneath. Either with hi-lo stuff or triangle reads to stretch areas etc. Being targeted in the scheme more often means more opportunities to screw up and get downgraded, so if this is happening across the league I could understand why LB grading could've taken a hit lately.
@@laurinnn That doesn't make any sense if he was the worst he would've gave up the most TD by a Cornerback that season (He allowed 5 TD that's rank 16) so that does not make him the worst when it comes to giving up TD. Was A.J. the most penalized defensive back ( He got 4 penalties that include 3 Defensive Pass Interference & 1 Face Mask) Jalen Ramsey had 7 penalties in 2020! He only allowed Robby Anderson (108) & Mike Evans (117) to get over 100 yards on him, that's not bad for a rookie season. He handled his own against Michael Gallup, Henry Ruggs, Adam Thielen, Tim Patrick, Keenan Allen, Sammy Watkins, D.J. Moore & Antonio Brown. I respect Billy Stepens opinion about A.J. being the worst CB in 2020. I will say he did gave up 1,000 passing allowed yards but that does not make him the worst CB because you have to factor in everything what a CB does & he does not meet the criteria to be the worst.
@@falconsempire64 TDs allowed dont make a player good or bad cuz theyre random. penalties arent anywhere as important as you make them out to be either. allowing 100 yards is fucking terrible, not just bad. allowing 60-70 yards in a game is bad, allowing 60-70 yards per game is terrible. so yes he absolutely did meet the criteria to being one of the worst starters
As rookie, I thought AJ played really well since our schedule was against a lot of elite receivers. Only issue with AJ is that he has a history of concussions because of bad technique with tackling.
AJ Terrell Started 16 games, recording 16 passes defensed, three interceptions, 81 total tackles (52 solo), one forced fumble, three tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks and one quarterback hit. How is that the worst season of his career?
omg i didn't know my CB Jalen Ramsey recently died!?.... Wow, how have I not heard abt this.. this is devastating!😱😢🙅♂️ Oh wait........ BOYYYYYYY if u don't sit yo ass down!🤣🤣🤣😭🤦♂️🤡
They just don’t like any teams coming out of Atlanta…none ,braves won the World Series last year you don’t see commercials or any announcements to the whitehouse or nothing but that’s ok I hope we win more championships for the city ,falcons ,hawks ,united let’s eat 🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
Jesus Christ is the Way,the Truth and the Life. He is the only One who can save you, there is no one else or anything else who can save you. He died on the cross for our sins and rose again in three days, so that we can receive forgiveness through Him. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior while you still have life. Jesus will come back and judge everyone according to their deeds. If you will reject Him you will see the great white throne and you will be thrown into the lake of fire prepared for Satan and his demons. Jesus defeated satan. Come to Jesus He will accept you with love. “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” 1 Timothy 1:15
Cool video but you seem to lack the understanding of a cornerbacks responsibility… I see all kind of mistakes in the corners read yet your saying it was the coaches fault for not playing to the strengths of the player.. for instance in a cover two or cover 3 if the number 2 receiver blocks down and the back you are to lock the number one receiver….. theirs another play where the receiver goes in motion and the corner doesn’t maintain outside leverage to funnel the receiver inside.. so be careful blaming pro bowl coaches for corners mistakes..
Please don’t stop breaking down film and making videos like these. These are teach tapes man, and I’m sharing this with everyone! Been looking for something like this since I was in high school!
I tend to try to be as balanced as possible when I hear those crazy stats of only allowing ,"so and so yards in a season". They said they with Asomugha but they also didn't take into account that QBs don't as often throw to their left and he lined up pre snap the left side of the field like 80 percent of the time.
@@SuperMurray2009 Ok but that statement still isn't entirely true. Its easier for a qb to throw to their most dominate side and since most qbs are right handed It makes many of their #1 targets to the right side. It also really depends on the play call and formation.
@@falcon0886 How would that not make sense? If most QBs are right handed most of their throws are gonna be towards their right. Most QBs( not all) have more trouble throwing towards their left.
Good coaches figure out real quick the player’s strengths then scheme to utilize those strengths. Pees is getting these guys to believe in what they’re doing - Terrell is the example.
i cant belive how he only got a 89 for his madden rating when people like christan McCaffery are at the top but they barley even played its just so unfair
He was never the worst. He got torched on national TV against a top 10 receiver in the league. Plz kill that narrative that he was ever bad. As a rookie he was already having to guard teams #1 receiver
Great content as usual, Billy! I was equally as baffled as you were when I saw that zone coverage chart. I was like "wait, what?", and had to rewind. hahaha Cheers from Brazil! Keep up the great content!
Damn that was an awesome video I was not expecting from a a small channel. Very knowledgeable. Thank you keep up the good work. Love the falcons even if they suck 😅
I remember telling people .. aj was the best cb taken in that draft “but he got cooked by chase “ yeah every cb did when he was in college .. then he went on to have a ok rookie season & I remember telling my friends it’s more on the defense than him , DQ was running that horrible defense which wasn’t suited for that team , then he went on to have a all pro season .. he had me watching falcons games when I’m not even a fan just for him , wished my team would’ve snagged him ! Top 5 CB in this league & he’s only going into year 3
Walterfootball was high on Terrell as a prospect. His website reported in 2020 that Terrell played with an illness against Burrow and Chase and graded the pick favorably.
Been bragging about him all year at work. Dude was crazy last year. He probably won't have the same numbers, but if he improves them (fucking watch out)
On the RZ play against CAR, he got some nice help from the LB who blew up the TE coming across behind the line. I think that played well with the timing of the tackle. Great defense all around by ATL
Marlon Humphrey has been one of the top corners in the league and then had a bad year last season before injury. Can you do a breakdown to see what changed and if it was it the backups around him or just him having a down season.
I was fading my fantasy WRs that faced Terrell in the back half of last season. Some people thought I was crazy, but he allowed like 20 fpts all season?
