To all those (like me) spoiled by quick mag changes, complaining about how long to reload; A- 10 total shots was super high capacity in a time when most had single shot muskets still B- with practice could be loaded as fast as a Navy Colt C- from what I've read mostly officers carried these as last resort/self defense considering they were usually surrounded by their own infantry D- regardless of it's specs now, when it was new, compared especially to other pistols, it was a major force multiplier. If I were alive back then it's the handgun I'd wanna pack PS- I've known about this gun since I was a kid in the 80s, not from red dead lol

It was still much more effective than single shot muskets. Crazy times when officers and cavalrymen had such an advantage over regular soldiers

Rockstar gonna make this look unreal when it comes out in red dead online. The reloading animations in the game are absolutely crazy

They forgot to show the loading lever breaking off while reloading. Most times the loading arm was removed because it was essentially useless. This is the second model leant, the first model had the loading lever on the opposite side like most of its contemporaries. Much stronger design.

I love this weapon in red dead 2 especially dual wielded Having 20 shots ready fire off is great But man are they cheating on the reload times I know why they did this. To keep gameplay fast and exciting but it's crazy how slow this thing is compared to it's in game depiction

Commander:"we're being attacked!" Soldier:"oh shoot, I didn't reload my revolver!" Commander:"start shooting" Soldier:"yeah, hold on" Commander: *gets shot* Soldier"k, I'm done, what did you want me to do?"

Till the people of that time reloaded this gun, he might be forgotten why was he fighting for.

Imagine being a Calvary soldier with four of these, and a carbine. Riding directly into a line of infantry that only had one shot!

Just imagine, after reloading and dodging bullets simultaneously, you are just about ready to get back into the fight when you slipped and dropped the gun into a puddle and then comprehend, that actually happened. You will just about lose all fighting will at that point, I'd imagine.

1 This revolver is mirrored, the loading lever should be on the right side if the gun, not the left. 2. Paper cartridges were very popular for cap and ball revolvers. Very few people actually used loose powder

I Love the Lemat Revolver its so unique like 2 guns in one. But damn look how long it takes to reload no wonder confederate officers hated it.

Really surprised the center second barrel design never took off in other guns.

I love this gun, one of my favorites from the 19th century. I’m honestly kind of surprised that the 9 round cylinder didn’t become standard in modern day revolvers.

Takes too long to reload, won't be much effective in today's war. But I like the idea of putting a shotgun-like barrel underneath the revolver.

This is why I only use cartridge conversion revolvers. Never was a fan of cap & balls.

As a Black Powder Shooter, lemmie tell yall a few things. 1. While this looks almost comical today, this thing was an absolute BEAST. If the terminator showed up two hundred years ago, this is the gun he'd be sporting. 2. Most guns back then could only load a single shot at the time, with the exception of six shooters. So, consider the scale. The average rifle had one shot. The new fangled revolver had six. And this beast had nine that could be loaded at once, with an additional mini-shotgun payload! That's nine rifles and a shotgun all compacted into a single monster. 3. Yes, this would take FOREVER to reload. But in reality, it'd only take slightly longer than loading the average six shooter, and it'd actually be FASTER than loading a revolver and a shotgun separately. In conclusion, this is the pinnacle of black powder revolvers.

I would enjoy a modern lemat with newer hardware: ie. Cased ammo and break action/cylinder release. But it has to be able to have the big barrel with it and capable to shoot with ease to reload

This was the age before bullets with casings became the norm. For the better because this takes the entire Godfather movie just to reload the whole thing.

For you kiddos who complain about the reloading speed, remember that in the war of independence, they were using muskets. This one here is already a technological achievement

i like the lemat. it inspired me to sketch out a philippine version (i'm from philippines) that is conceal-carry chambered in 9mm parabellum, has nine round capacity, with the barrel maybe an inch longer than the original (which is optional) so you can use it at long ranges. my original idea was for it to fire in .45 acp, but it would make the revolver big so i went to 9mm (one of the available handgun ammunition here in philippines that i think is suited for this gun i designed). central barrel is chambered either in 12 or 410 gage.

I just imagine that they used to shoot a lot with the larger barrel since it’s just a blunderbuss and much simpler to reload than the cylinder. Or don’t even reload at all and just pick a saber lol

As a non gunsmith in surprised you don't hear about getting half strikes priming the shotgun without engaging that mechanism.

Hallo, is it possible to get the IGEs or STEP model of the LeMat? I would like to build a blank amunition (9x17 Knall blank and 12x70 shotgun blank) conversion.

Minor quibble - You would load one chamber lower, and then rotate the cylinder till its under the plunger. The plunger doesnt allow easy access to the chamber thats below it.
