How a machine can process engines and transmissions for more money 

James, that was the best demonstration/analysis of a job that I have seen for ages! In fact I was thinking of going to the car for my golfing hat just so that I could put it on in order to take it off to you. It was well narrated, skillfully executed and jammed full of information. Congratulations! You answered the question of a trainee with an eye to the situation, and I (in my armchair expert opinion) couldn't agree more. It was a rare glimpse of the real James -- a man with his head firmly on his shoulders. Thank you for an enjoyable 48 minutes of education. Best wishes.

Great insightful video , when you are ready a hammer mill and magnetic separator would really upgrade the value , I used to watch one in use , the value was stripped out the cat etc manually , then the vehicle was put in the baler and shear , that went up a conveyor into a big hammer mill , came out as 2 inch pieces up a conveyor , mag belt stripped the steel , then a linear motor ( eddy current ) picked the alloy and copper off the junk went straight into a skip baler , was impressive , they sold the junk bales on for energy recovery

Awesome progress as always gents. From an outsiders view the top things you need to do to make life easier. 1 - Move the car racks to the very back out the way behind the scrap bay. Make a path for the fork lift to get there and back. They are in the way of processing and goods in . 2 - Make a goods inwards area at the very front and move everything out the way. Those racks opposite the garage are killing your space for the lorrys to move. 3 - Build the tyre area sell the part worns online. They go for good money if branded. Containers over the top gives perfect storage and working area. Can Put a ramp under there and strip more cars too.

When i was a kid booly hell thats along time a go, worked in a local scrap yard on the weekend, i use to take alternators an starts motors off and dynamo (well before you was a twinkle in your daddy's eye) 😁

You need a good mechanic to diagnose the diesels and check the DPF pressures and resell the DPFs also the nox sensors and the vaporiser are worth a fortune, hope you took the vaporisers off the transit mini busses you scrapped they are 200 to 400 to buy.

Without knowing all the ins and outs of the big machines true running costs James (and I include your time as a boss btw) would it not be more cost effective to have say a dedicated smaller more economical machine like a 3/5 Ton with a dedicated Operator separating the Cat / Starter and Alternators with a hydraulic Jaw (like the Fire Brigade use for car extractions on RTA’s and have him picking through the engines whilst you concentrated on the big stuff like bailing and dismantling? You know something with enough power to move the engine blocks around but a lot cheaper on running costs and ultimately time on the larger machine? If you were dedicated to pulling the engines clean out stacking them to one side whilst the smaller machine processes the high returns cheaper and perhaps more efficiently? As a Machine Operator myself you will know that larger machines tend to be used for bulk work rather than intricate fine grading as it’s more cost effective in the long run. I was listening to the diesel cost of the big machine and I know from running both ends of Equipment these smaller machines are far more cost effective fuel wise provided the operator isn’t wasting time which I know is the main reason you do this work yourself as I doubt there are many who could keep up with you in regards to stripping an entire vehicle with that setup. To train someone up from scratch would I think take months if not years to get anywhere near your efficiency on that machine. But of the job was made simpler and you removed that intricate work and pushed it onto a smaller dedicated machine then you could train a skilled operator up quicker on both I think. Saving fuel and of course probably allowing you less time in the seat and getting on with running the yard. I know you are expanding at your own pace but as an onlooker with machine experience I think you could do a lot worse than having two dedicated machines sharing the workload and ultimately perhaps saving you on running costs.

I used to do the same thing you do James proses cars i took the concrete blocks laid them on their side wrap 2 inch flat bar stock steel around them to hold them in place made a ramp in front and you drive the escavader on top it keeps you out of all the water and muck it works perfectly and your 2 feet higher probably cost you 500 bucks im telling you it works my machine was bigger than yours so it will hold the weight you should try it before you spend thousands of dollars
