The narration completely ruins the video. Every time I wanted to hear the natural sounds of the tools, sanding, scraping, etc, the voice over comes in to add nothing of value to the video.

Well, sometimes you have to stop and think.. Restoration stands for restoring, not remaking. Great job, you saved that dresser's life!

The fact that this dresser is near 100 years old and in pretty good condition just amazes me.

I’m not surprised there’s stripping in Barewood. This place is the wildest on the East Coast.

Agree, should've stick to the original. Then again, the channel name is makeover not restoration.

weird choice to use such narrow veneer strips, and the old veneer would have probably come off easier with water plus heat instead of just heat, since it's most likely hide or bone glue (gelatine). soak it in water first, then steam it with a wet rag and clothes iron. alternatively, if you want to crack open a hide/bone clue joint dry by utilizing its brittleness, it helps a lot to let some drops of 95%+ ethanol soak into the joint, that causes the glue to crack a lot easier (especially old glue joints) while not weakening the wood - though of course it does damage most wood finishes, so it needs to be applied very sparingly. that's what violin makers like myself use to open violins or crack off their fingerboards (small drops of alcohol on a butter knife used as a wedge).

That is a very cool old dresser, but I think he ruined it with those veneer strips. The top did not look good at all.

I always thought that veneer was a poor quality product.
@jacobbwalters8133
@jacobbwalters8133 2 года назад
Veneer is a thin strip of high quality wood, usually teak, mahogany, or walnut. It is traditionally placed on top of lower quality woods like pine or birch. Newer pieces sometimes use cheaper base materials like particle board, which are more difficult to restore and less structurally sound.

but...thats what a narrator does, they narrate and here she has the job to narrate what the video shows. Why even make an effort to write such a stupid comment. Did it ever cross your mind that not everyone has a hive brain so everyone knows exactly every time, everywhere and experience everything together and know the same knowledge from the get go to the same time? well apparently not.

I stopped watching the video when I saw edge veneer being used on a surface. It tells me of one thing - the person doing it is not a professional. Which raises the question - why do you bother making a video featuring an amateur???

this is pro work no question. BUT sorry for my honest opinion: you have to see that this furniture is old, not new. Now it looks like fresh from the factory - or even worse: from IKEA. target completely missed. I also restore old cars, especially the interior of cars. Here the goal is always: Original Condition, and not according to whim. This furniture doesn't look like 100 years old. it`s like brandnew. history furniture like this always loses its soul if you don't do it the right way. you can compare it easily by stopping the video at 05:12 - then compare it.
