I’m 66 have lip lines and am just proud to be privileged to live long enough to be wrinkly and crinkly. Enjoy your life. Don’t worry about aging - not everyone gets to do it.
I HAD smoke lines big time.. after 6 months of using castor oil they are pretty much gone.. I'm asked a lot about my age and they always say, u sure dont look it.. i use it all over my face.. big difference
I'm annoyed because my asthma inhaler has given me lip lines. I have to pucker up to use it 4 times a day, and ironically I've never smoked. Having just read a comment about castor oil, l will buy some asap....😊
In the Natural Health field, we've learned that " multiple nutrient deficiencies" most importantly 99 that are critical to consume every day, causes premature aging. Poor diet and lack of exercise, even facial exercises, are contributing factors, as are negative thoughts, actions and feelings. Our cells respond to our beliefs so command them to stay healthy then back up the beliefs with Peace, Prayer and Supplementation with vital Nutrients. Thanks for allowing my comment Dr. K. Blessings!
I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. A good diet is essential to health. I have lip lines and I know it is from Sun damage. No one knew about sun damage or sun screen. My diet did not prevent what my genetic dictated. You have take my word I have been eating healthy. Nutrients beyond what you need are un necessary, but eating habits do vary with mindfulness and priority(S) in life. No one has a perfect life! Thankfully there are good options out there for restoring a more youthful appearance!
Please don't tell me people should lay down or not pick up their favorite musical instruments because of fear of getting lip lines! Perhaps doing what we love and giving music/happiness to others is the antidote for lack of self esteem/ aging😊.
I saw a video of ablative laser on lip lines and there was NO DIFFERENCE between before and after. It was the FRACTIONAL laser that made the difference!!
Educational for all! Knowledge is power¡ Great Tutorial! Well explained, truthful to every choice of treatments. Thank you for sharing your medical talent! Greetings from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 🌹🌹🌹🌹
@@meerkat783 That info has been revised. It was based on a flawed study done in the early 2000s, and an increased risk of breast cancer is low. Talk with any reputable OB/GYN about HRT if you don't have certain risk factors, such as blood clots. There are far more benefits, such as osteoporosis prevention, than risks. That flawed study hurt women for decades.
@bathemeinchampagne I have been on the combo b.c. pill for over 30 years for various reasons. My mother started on HRT (estrogen-only patch) in the early 2000s post-hysterectomy. We have no family history of breast cancer, and her husband is a retired OB/GYN. There was always a risk vs. benefit ratio, but more so due to clot risk. I am a non-smoker, have a low BMI, low BP, good cholesterol levels, etc. I don't believe that the good doctors changed their prescribing habits on one study alone based on personal experience, but I definitely did run into bad doctors when I turned 40 who refused to even write me a script for my combo b.c. pill to suppress my painful, heavy, week-long periods. They were all female doctors without an ounce of empathy, incidentally. I luckily found a nurse for nearly a decade who saw the whole patient, and I am now with a better educated doctor since she retired. It's my body, and in a broken, for-profit healthcare system here in the US, I am the paying customer. The onus is on the medical professionals here to do their job based on benefit vs. risk. There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer.
Thank you so much for the education you provided on lip lines. I’m 71 year year-old woman who is looking to have something done at this point. I’m not sure what, I live in Canada and I feel that most of the specialists and plastic surgeons, etc. do not have the experienceas those in the USA. Your suggest suggestion of a virtual appointment is very appealing to me and I will go to your website and maybe we can go from there. Thank you.❤
could you possibly do a video on this dilute filler for upper and lower for this non smoker , non drinker. I just had botox for upper lip and do not care for the numb feeling and the resultant esthetic.. flattened out lip and corners droop , also still hyper purse my lips. I would love to see your filler work for lips please and if I can't get to new york , I'll know what to ask for. Thanks in advance
@@Katie-vy5rdyou need a thin filler like Restylane Kisse or Belotero, they’re not prone to swelling up. I’ve had it done to my top lip, it lasts a couple of years.
I totally got rid of mine by asking my aesthetic NP to break the adhesions in the « smoker s « lines with a needle. 2 years down…no lines back!!! Docs do the same with acne scars. It s all conjonctive tissue adhesions 🤷♀️add some PRF in there and done👍
Dr. I thank you 🤩 for your time, for touching on such a current topic and for the honesty and clarity of your explanation. I would like you to see my current photo: in case I require anything else to continue👍! I am passionate about these topics because I am a woman, who has never smoked or drunk and at 73 years old, I continue to do my daily exercises and 🏋 GYM, also electronic ones for facial muscle mass; As a result: no wrinkles or age spots, I don't have to take any medication and my physical condition is excellent!
Thank you Doctor. Your approach and reasons why for skin care products and application are so valuable for making good choices. Thank you. I am very appreciative of your expertise and sharing of your knowledge with us.
@@Ladynipchick2 find on utube testamonies from people that use it. It's great for wrinkles and crepe arm skin and crepe neck skin. Better to mix it with a lotion because it's thick and combined with a lotion of your choice spreads better on skin. I've used it for 3 weeks straight and people have said my skin looks good. I'm 61 yrs.
I did erbium yag, best results by far! First month is harsh & it can take several months for pinkness & tenderness to go away but totally worth it. Also recommend treatment is performed by a dermatologist, not just a tech. While tech's may be able to do a decent job, a derm is far more skilled especially during recovery & maintenance phases and hopefully less likely to sell you questionable products & follow-up treatments.
Everything depends upon the intelligence, experience , and ethics of the person performing the laser. Plastic surgeons and dermatologists are usually well trained to perform these procedures (but not always).
Oh Lisa, please forgive me! I was skimming over the comments and thought you typed/said “best results by fart!” 😂 I think skimming and that explanation mark was messing with my eyes!
Lines are a natural aging by product as we lose collagen and fat deposits above our top lip so the structure of the skin and tissues decrease as we age. Non smokers and non drinkers get the lines the same as smokers. Plastic surgeons wouldn't have jobs if we weren't so obsessed with the changes to our faces as we get older. Just grow old the way its intended, ignore lines and wrinkles, they are the map of our life.
I had deep upper lip wrinkles and filler in my upper lip at the lip line really helped reduce them by about 80%. I had two rounds of fractional co2 laser, but neither one of them helped much.
I don’t smoke don’t drink alcohol cleanse tone and moisturise morning and night I take vitamin D3 have thyroid disease and Parry Romberg Syndrome and Sjögren’s syndrome. I am in my 70s and have heavy lip lines I hate them.
For myself, I have small teeth. I gave up cigarettes 12 years ago before I even noticed any! So I’m blaming my small teeth - straight, never had braces, but small! Now for the appearance aspect. At 60, I don’t need to do a full face of makeup anymore. But to improve my appearance, I go with Mascara and Dior Addict Lip Tint (hands down the best) but until it dries completely, it can and does run into those fine lines! It’s frustrating! Back to Dr. Kopelman! ❤
Super,in depth information. Thank you for providing the different modalities of what can be used including the pros and cons. I'm glad I found your site , I ve subscribed and look forward to future content.
Yes, and the more movement around the filler, the faster it wears off. Around the mouth is notorious for this. It’s also really difficult to inject those lines without creating lumps or duck lips.
I read that men are less affected because the coarse upper lip hair follicles lend some subcutaneous structure to skin. Apart from this, daily shaving is a daily excercise for some supporting facial muscles.
I had braces in my 40s And it caused me to pucker a lot because I have the metal ones which was a nightmare later on I started wearing retainers one day I realized I had all these lines and it was the way I slept with my mouth kind of sucked in hi known all of this I never even got braces
I hard straws because of the way you you drink out of the straws so I just stopped using straws at all and I don’t smoke and iam not a sun worshipper I don’t drink either I don’t like botox
Thank you for the info wish I saw this 2 yrs ago. I had CO2 laser done by a plastic surgeon, I am disappointed bc I had my whole face done and my upper lip is discolored. Not only was the result disappointing i paid 5,500!! I was given products to even out my skin tone but it didn’t work.
I have lip line and I have never smoked in my life, so what is causing mine? I've never been a heavy drinker. Now My teeth are smaller than most adult teeth.
If you get a few wrinkles at seventy it is natural. I think the best option is to accept this and be thankful to be pain free, alive and outward looking.
Great information! Thank you so much. I, too, have never smoked, but I attribute my lip lines due to heavy coffee drinking and early menopause. They are an embarrassment to me as I'm sure most people assume I was a heavy smoker. Non the less, I just keep smiling!
Aside from a cigarette here and they are back in the day after a stage performance I never smoked. And I have terrible lip lines. Mine were more from expression and stress and pursing my lips. Oh, and from sipping throw straws.
As I had horrendous complications due to laser treatment, I sought advice from a laser expert based in Belgium, his clinic uses the Tele viv advanced chemical peel method instead of lasers, as his clinic has found that the complications I suffered from are common and the peel has less complications and a better outcome. Please research cosmetic procedures and ask the doctor/procedure provider about complications and what is the protocol to help reduce them if they should occur. If you suffer complications, you need advice and support, ask if you will receive this, NEVER rush into having treatment. ❤
I have used a straight edge to shave my face for years. I use Ret A and sunscreen and have for 35 years. I use Botox to keep the lip lines at arm’s length. Never used straws. I am 69 and it works. Imperceptible lip lines.
Dr Kopelman The skin around my lips is lighter than the rest of my face And when I exert myself it gets even lighter and it looks so weird What do you think is causing this Can it be related to poor blood flow or something of that nature?? Thank you and thank you for all the great content about lip lines I have them too
I’ve just finished cancer trot. Have lip lines but can’t tax my body w/ co2. Is there much less taxing way get rid of them. Will undiluted glycolic acid 3x wk help?
Men don’t have menopause! Women’s sudden loss of estrogen cause us to loose 30% of our collagen within 5 years AND we lose fat in all our feminines places (face and hips). The male doctor doesn’t know about this at all even though every women goes through it. Get on hormone replacement asap at menopause or even before.
Hormones can play a role in skin aging but as I said most men shave their lips on a daily basis which is like a dermabrasion treatment which helps to smooth the skin
100% agree with everything!! I work and have worked with a facial plastic surgeon for 24 years!! Love the Botox and erbium yag!! Phenol peels 👎. TCA peels for Caucasian persons 👍. Erbium yag can be done on all skin colors!! 🩷
So basically he says there is nothing that can be done for lip lines. I know lots of women who are in the fifties and sixties who have lines around their lips and they never smoked nor do they drink or lie in the sun
Their lip lines may be due to dental recession or hyperactive peri-oral muscles. If there is overactive muscle contraction dilute Botox can "soften" the muscle contractions which will soften the verticle lines.
@@drkopelman this is interesting. I have three veneers at the front which have been in place for over 26 years now ( been reluctant to replace as now so expensive) I am also 67, although my skin is not too bad at all. I look at though I have lost definition from lips and the top lip tends to go inwards when i talk ( I know cos i checked in the mirror) lol
Thank you, Dr. Kopelman. This straight forward delve into the causes of lip lines and various types of treatments is well done and appreciated. I am 75 1/2 years old so, because sunscreen wasn't sold in stores (don't even know if it existed at all) my entire life until I was in my 30's, my skin has had daily sun exposure. Being an outside type of child/teen/young adult, my skin has had an onslaught of sun rays and, yes, I did go to the beach, spend the entire day and soak in the sun.🙄
