This is compounded by the fact that, important consideration, if you need to get your name out and have thousands of people vote for you to win a seat in office, how do you do that? Obviously, advertising. How do you get that advertising? You pay hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to campaign. You're not going to get that solely via donations. If you want to have success, you have to accept "Generous donations" from these same wealthy entities who have a vested interest in certain decisions being made. End result, it's literally impossible to become a politician, specifically in the U.S., without already being corrupt by the time you win the seat. Now, I'm not saying I know the solution. I don't. But the single biggest thing that would "Fix" the political system instantly would be if the most powerful players in the economy were incapable of directly interacting with our political figures. How do you achieve that? No clue. Perhaps make a political campaign fund paid by taxpayer dollars, and ban all private or donated funding. Sequester all Federal politicians and their direct families in a dedicated section of Washington D.C. until their time in office is up, with no direct access to anyone except government employees? Perhaps, though maybe a bit extreme. Allow for politicians to make incredible amounts of money, based upon approval ratings and other positive metrics of their constituents, in order to encourage pursuing the needs of the people above all else? Just spitballing ideas. Maybe some that are particularly dystopian, but maybe that's what's necessary. Either way, the primary source of our political woes come down to who *really* pays the paycheck of our politicians, and it has nothing to do with their official salary.
