The SKS is a Soviet semi-automatic carbine chambered for the 7.62×39mm round, designed in 1943 by Sergei Gavrilovich Simonov. Its complete designation, SKS-45, is an initialism for Samozaryadny Karabin sistemy Simonova, 1945 (Russian: Самозарядный карабин системы Симонова, 1945; Self-loading Carbine of (the) Simonov system, 1945). The SKS-45 was manufactured at Tula Arsenal from 1949 to 1958 and at Izhevsk Arsenal in just 1953 and 1954, resulting in a total Soviet production of about 2.7 million carbines. In the early 1950s, the Soviets took the SKS carbine out of front-line service and replaced it with the AK-47; however, the SKS remained in second-line service for decades.

So the piston drives the bcg back? Or does it unlock it so it can blow back from the pressure? Or a bit of both?
@BigLisaFan
@BigLisaFan 4 года назад
Piston drives the breech block carrier back unlocking the breech block.
@ivanivanovic5857
@ivanivanovic5857 3 года назад
That little hook on the bolt carrier lifts up the bolt out of the hole it falls down into, allowing it to move back.

The model of rifle featured in this video, the M59/66, is a Yugoslavian version of the SKS, which is a Russian design. There are small but important differences.

I don’t understand why the bolt gets locked back after the last round...
@seal7144
@seal7144 4 года назад
Do you not understand the reason behind the design or do you not understand how it does so? A bolt locking back on an empty magazine is useful in combat situations because it allows loading the firearm to be easier, especially in top loading guns like the SKS. This model does so via part of the magazine follower, which prevents the bolt from going forward when empty.

Miki Krofna You are correct, but it utilizes a nearly identical design. And technically, it’s a PAP M59/66 A1. The A1 is the only variant with flip up night sights.
