We’ve been lied to in an attempt by America to deny the darker skin “so called African Americans” aka FBA (foundational black americans) the native rights to this land. @@Luci_Sdo you understand how many indigenous nations on this continent alone (Turtle Island) had relations with Europeans? Tsalagi people had contact with them for at least a hundred years before serious westward expansion, and thus had many intermarriages. What's not appropriate is to use modern discredited notions of "race" to say who or who is not a member of a nation. The Cherokee Nation alone gets to decide who belongs, and yes, even me, a very European looking person, whose ancestors were among those adopted into the tribe from the Shawnee Indians, is allowed citizenship, should there be a verifiable connection. And thus, with my pale skin, I am gathering materials and getting enrolled. Why? Because I know this "white" way of being is false, and hollow, as hollow as American "culture." Because I want to be a part of the solution of bringing some balance back to the land, to learn the language of my people, and to know more about myself and my family. But using materialist notions of race to determine citizenship is a very white notion, and very much a colonized mindset. This said, if you think I'm full of shit, that's on you, and that's okay. I know my family history, the records kept, and the roll numbers of my Sawanook'i great grandfather who was adopted into the nation after the civil war. Again, NOBODY aside from the sovereign indigenous nations has the right to determine who or who is not qualified for being part of the tribe. And I mean nobody.
