Thank you so much for the info!! I was able to give my rabbit almost instant relief with Oxbow Critical Care, and your instruction. It was hard to find a package of Critical Care quickly, so I am definitely going to keep it on hand now, along with simethacone. Thank you for your clear and concise instruction!!

My bunny rabbit named sugar, a neutered male. He is still alive and kicking. His poo are still the size of BB's. He eats mostly vegetables and hay. Going to go get some probiotics and see if I can get some bigger poo poo out of him. One of your other fans, recommended them in a comment. I hope your bunnies are all doing well. Take care and thank you for the videos.

For anyone else whose bunny struggles with gut motility, Bene-Bac Plus by Pet Ag significantly decreased the number of bouts for mine! I give him a dose each day in his veggies.

Where do you get it? Online? Is it different than critical care?

Man, my bunny is very challenging to syringe feed her. Some times I need my father's help and other times I also need him and my mother to hold her because she is so smart that she can memorize the ways we feed her. But is funny at the same time.

Have you ever had to make your own mix of critical care? I'm just curious. We have it to hand and have used it before on our cuties, after being spayed and neutered. Interesting video 💖Your giant us gorgeous, we have a giant too. Our critical care is aniseed flavoured, so our rabbits aren't big fans, plus they don't enjoy being syringe fed.

I haven't, the beauty of critical care is the fact that they can so consistently grind it and I just don't have any good way to make it so consistently small and allow it to be syringe fed. And I have definitely tried to feed some rabbits that hated being fed critical care, but it was super helpful in their recovery. I personally like the Banana apple flavor better than the anise, but some other pocket pets really like the anise!

My bunny doesn’t rlly show the signs of stasis except for being in the meatloaf position and teeth grinding and everything else seems fine but her stomach is rlly hard my family and I can’t rlly afford the vet rn but if it gets bad I’ll def try to take her.

And idk if it’s stasis or bloat can I use it for both?
@DoctorDawson

Simethicone and Critical Care should both be safe in rabbits and if they were my own rabbits that's where I'd start. (But definitely try to get her in, those things sound a lot like she's painful, and really x-rays would be helpful to know if it's gas, stasis or an obstruction)

So my rabbit is under weight and is skinny and is having diarrhea so i got alfalfa hay to help and i ordered some Oxbow digestive tablets but i need that critical care but can you leave a link of the one you have. Can you also give me some more tips?
@DoctorDawson
@DoctorDawson 4 года назад
hey! sounds like your bunny is having a rough time. I'd recommend talking to your vet about possibly doing a fecal float, the other thing to do is evaluate his diet, usually something causes a bunny to get diarrhea, this can be something like eating too much fruit, too many cucumbers, or it can be something like intestinal parasites. For the critical care, there should be one in the description, if there isn't I'll put it in asap, but here is what I use! www.amazon.com/Oxbow-Critical-Care-Supplement-141gm/dp/B0021WZJD8/ref=asc_df_B0021WZJD8/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=218543830990&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10197619273066653436&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9020100&hvtargid=pla-408281809127&psc=1

How's your rabbit doing? I keep both of mine in a dried food diet, with an occasional treat of fresh veg, as mostly fresh veggies just gives them diarreah. Rabbits can have very sensetive digestive systems, but it may not be the issue. Hope your rabbit is doing bettter💖

Hi Dr. Dawson. Are there any specific probiotics or prebiotics for a rabbit after they have finished a course of antibiotics?

How often do I feed my rabbit critical care a day?

Hey Dr. Dawson, My bunny is recovering from GI stasis. Now he is having mushy poop, on metronidazole. previously he had enorfloxacin. I am not sure his mushy poop is because of antibiotic or GI stasis recovery. Do you know how long does it take to get back normal poop. thanks

I have one rabbit that will eat it off of a spoon. And another rabbit who when you put your arms around him and touch his nose with the syringe or anywhere on his whiskered lips, he kicks up into the air or jerks his head from side to side. How can you deal with this? I have been feeding a 5lb bunny in GI stasis and he is most uncooperative. It gets on his chin and along with the water and motility drugs his chin has become red irritated and matted. What can I put on his chin to clean it and stop the irritation? And how can I stop him from fighting me to get the syringe into his mouth. My syringe clogs up, after I get it in his mouth, and if it doesn't flood his mouth oh, I have to take it out squirt it back into the bowl, and then put it into his mouth again while he is fighting this. Any tips? Thanks I enjoyed just video and many others that you have made.
@DoctorDawson
@DoctorDawson 3 года назад
Most of the time the irritation is from the moisture so making sure how chin is clean and dry is probably the most important thing. As for how to make them more cooperative, I like to tuck them under my arm on a table or something and kinda use my body to hold their head more still to get it in. If your syringe is plugging up, try to make it a little thinner and make sure it is really well mixed up

I had trouble with a 5ml syringe, the plunger would not glide easily. Another time a Dr. gave me a 60ml syringe to fill and transfer into (11) of the 1ml syringes, filled half full so the plunger was easier to handle. It worked very well and the process was easier on both the bunny and me. I wrapped him in a towel like a burrito with his front paws held tight in the towel and held him face outward against my chest. With the hand that held his head I put my finger under his chin to hold it up. Lots of petting after doing it.
@edwardroche2480
@edwardroche2480 Год назад
@@sockpuppet2415 I use the towel trick too. This is about a year later and my bunny rabbit is furry dry white and clean and he runs around the boat a little which I believe helps straighten his innards out. He seems a lot happier but is poop is still way too small like maybe a BB. I feed them a little bit more special and restricted diet to make sure that he doesn't clog up what he's got left. Today I'm going to take him up to the park and let him run. I'll let you know how that turns out. But he does eat out of his dishes and I haven't had to force feed him. And a shout out and a thanks to Dr Dawson. Y'all have a good day. Don't forget to vote.

Advise me on feeding young rabbits after 3 weeks
@DoctorDawson
@DoctorDawson 3 года назад
Alfalfa hay, and young rabbit pellets. You can soften both with water if they aren't fully eating hard food yet. If they are three weeks old they should stil be on milk for ar least a few weeks. Kitten milk replacer is the closest milk replacer to what they should get. This can get you until they comfortably are eating hay and pellets

How can I control bloat in my rabbits ?
@DoctorDawson
@DoctorDawson 3 года назад
If they are truly forming gas, that is happening from their diet, so limiting sugary foods, and basically only feeding them Timothy hay, and a few good pellets will be the long term solution. If however they are going into GI stasis and producing gas, you need to focus on getting their GI.tract moving with things like critical care and pain Management (you'll likely need a script from a vet) and you can use simethacone to help decrease gas production in both of these cases in the short term
