The people who made the Dinosaur King models were probably Tyrannosaur fans. They were able to consistently create almost perfect reconstructions for the time.
Chauvanists, really, given that they put so much more work into the tyrannosaurs while generally neglecting everything else (especially the sauropods, Dinosaur King did them dirty).
Two things I will say; 1. The piece of music they use for Terry when he transforms into adult form, that should be the theme of all Tyrannosaurus’ in paleo media, the Tyrannosaurus March. 2. Dinosaur King’s Saurophaganax, that colouration to me is the Canon Saurophaganax.
Terry was always the underdog. I always screamed with joy any time he actually got a win. I know he’s a villain in the first season, but T. rex is my favorite dinosaur, so I always gotta show the support.
Happy to see my dear boy Terry holding up almost perfectly after all those years ❤️🔥. Truly one of the best constructed dinosaur models and an all-time favorite for many fans! Glad it didn’t get debunked so much as the Acrocanthosaurus…
The Acrocanthosaurus from Dinosaur King is still iconic. It's alpha version has my favorite color palette of the fire dinosaurs along with Torvosaurus's one.
When i was a kid collecting these cards I made up an entire Autobot vs Decepticon type of war between all the elements. Yangchuanosaurus was the starscream to tyrannosaurus rex and kept trying to betray him in the stories i made up lol.
@@JoseHernandez-xv2bt it's been over a decade so i don't remember much. some things that lingered on were anchiceratops being the gruff second in command for the lightning dinosaurs and the earth dinosaurs being the joke faction with how dumb they were.
I haven't heard anyone doubting the placement of Acrocanthosaurus as a carcharodontosaurid in a long while. Yes, in the past it was classified as an allosaurid, megalosaurid and even a spinosaurid, but that was all before the 1995 discovery of Giganotosaurus and the 1996 re-discovery of Carcharodontosaurus, and our understanding of the carcharodontosaurids as a natural group crystalized in the mid 2000s with the description of Tyrannotitan and Mapusaurus. I think the last time Acrocanthosaurus was suggested to be an allosaurid was in a 2000 study.
Although this isn't related to Dinosaur King, the Tarbosaurus in the Camp Cretaceous interactive game, Hidden Adventure, was literally the same size as Rexy, except it had a row of spikes, a roar that had clicking in it, and smaller arms
Yeah, the design was really lacking and disappointing. I honestly prefer the Jurassic World Alive Tarbosaurus over the Camp Cretaceous one. Also, Jurassic World Evolution 2 did a good job of animating and coloring the JWCC Tarbosaurus to look more like a dinosaur and less like a 90's toddler toy.
My fave type, loved all the EXPLOSIVE fire moves, really made it stand out from usual depictions of fire powers in media These were also the guys that made me love Torvosaurus as it was the 1st dinosaur i got from the Arcade game
I've been loving the series so far and i have watched every single entry! I've been a dinosaur king fan since i was 7 and i have actually emulated the arcade game and played it and i just wanted some small things: 1. You didn't mention a really weird detail in the arcade and that's metricanthosaurus arm position where one is pronated meanwhile the other isn't for so odd reason? It weird as heck idk why (also eocarcharia is the only fire dino with non pronated wrist just wanted to mention that) 2. I feel like the confusion with wind and fire dinos really depends on when the dino realesed (raja being extremely early and eocarcharia being last fire dino i think?) or they're overall body structure if a theropod is bulky it's fire if it's not it's wind idk those two attributes are really shaky with eachother 3. I have access to every dk arcade model so i could check the abelisaurus arms that or i give you the models... Anyways i enjoy all of these videos hope your having a lovely day! (I refuse to believe dk's rex is good bro got that jp build also apperantly tarbo's skull is almost as wide as rex but don't quote me on that.)
I think that current studies that support Saurophaganax as its own separate species from Allosaurus use the differences in how its bones notably its vertebrae to support it as the vertebrae of Sauro seem to be more robust and possibly indicate a creature that lived a similar lifestyle to tyrannosaurus rather then Allosaurus though I might be misremembering and might be entirely wrong lol
Forgot to add this in previously but I think it’s cool that the 3 species of dasp might resemble a direct evolutionary line though out the time the species where alive
@@Stitch2316 You're correct, the three species of _Daspletosaurus_ are generally agreed to be an anagenetic lineage similarly to _Triceratops_ . Regarding _Saurophaganax_ , there are now people arguing that it might be a very early carcharodontosaur.
This show is the reason Acrocanthosaurus is one of my favorite dinos, even if it probably didnt have the quite as pronounced spine (which i mistakenly remembered being more sail like) its still a pretty cool dino, and its Alpha form is iconic! Cool vid overall, learned a lot! Mainly that ive been pronouncing giganotosaurus completely wrong...
After I learned what the name "Saurophaganax" meant, I finally understood why this species was the last Dinosaur Card to collect in Season 1 of the anime. 🦖
All the love tyrannosaurs get definetly showed here with how good the quality of them is, I remember having a soft spot for the Gorgo, Daspleto and Alioramus as a kid. I got to say tho lately the more I look at the design for the Tarbosaur the more it reminds me of the models used for Tyrannosaur and Albertosaurus in Prehistoric Park. Like Im not the only one seeing this right? As for the rest of the fire elemental dinosaurs they really do seem to be a mix bag, Saurophagonax & Torvosaurus continue to be awesome designs, Rajasaur not so much, and yeah it is kinda funny how the skull on the Giga has a siluet closer to modern recons than the ones at the time.
Another element down. Man, imagine the day when when people figure Saurophagnax out..... If it's possible of course. Nice research as always, looking foward to the rest. 🎉
Pretty much any recent study to include Siamotyrannus did not recover it as a tyrannosaur but as some sort of allosaur and one placed it as a basal coelurosaur but not a tyrannosaur. Given its fragmentary remains, it should probably be written off as a nomen dubium, and we already have some confirmed large Early Cretaceous tyrannosaurs in Asia; Yutyrannus and Sinotyrannus.
It appears that the fire element was made for carnivores eight meters and above, although strange it still had Abelisaurus in it, maybe apex predators?
Yeah if I remember correctly, the first Saurophaganax material was found in Oklahoma while the newest (but not described) material was found in New Mexico.
I'm really scared to watch reviewing Spinosaurus' accuracies. Being nerf down a lot from giant apex predator to small aquatic yacht dino. They really massacred my boy a lot. Love your Dinosaur King accuracy videos. Especially when you review the Lightning Dinosaur's accuracies.
I guess there’s two species of Tyrannosaurus in Dinosaur King; Tyrannosaurus rex & Tyrannosaurus gigas Since Gigas’ name is a nod to Manospondylus gigas, Tyrannosaurus’ original name.
I like that the music used in this video is the same one used for the Badlands video in your Prehistoric Planet review. It fits, considering both videos involve fire.
Huh. I didn't know Giganotosaurus now has a shorter skull I'm so used to its longer skull that the now shorter skull almost feels wrong to me Then again I'm a big fan of Spinosaurus so I'm used to cretaures getting some odd changes Speaking of Spino. The water element vid is gonna be real interesting cause of him and his ever changing lifestyle
Yep, this new and second species of Tyrannosaurus was published some months ago but there was 2 others species that were said to be discovered last year 2023 (which I don't right now remember the names). But these two proposes species were debunked quite rapidly and the paper describing them mocked by everyone. I think it would have still be nice to have this paper, two hypothetical species and event to have been mentionned in the video, as additional info about the genus as a whole.
@@HodgePodge7 Oh ok then. It's you who choose what to include or not in your videos, after all. And if you thought this paper wasn't relevant, so I believe you. But so, what about the one of this 2024 year about this new species of Tyrannosaurus which is mentionned in the video ? Valid or not ? What about it which have more weight and is actually supported than the two previous dismissed species ?
@@dudotolivier6363 _T. mcraeensis_ has a smaller chin, smaller & blunter teeth, & a shallower lower jaw, suggesting a much weaker bite, and the proportions of its jaw & crests differ enough from the material we have of _T. rex_ that individual variation is not as likely responsible for these differences (this was the biggest problem with Paul's paper, as it was found out that he couldn't prove that the "diagnostic traits" of his new species weren't simply individual variations). It's also considerably older.
While I prefer the earth dinosaurs, the fire dinosaur episodes were always awesome because they could either be pure fighting or a nice little story (daspleto and acro for example)
Fire has so many of my favorite dinosaurs from the anime. Terry, Saurophaganax (Torch) Carcharodontosaurus (Coal) Acrocanthosaurus (Beta/Pyro), Torvosaurus (Killer)
Ironic considering how in the show the Alpha Gang had such a hard time pronouncing the name Carcharodontosaurus that Google's timestamps have no idea how to say "Carcharodontosaurid"
Fun fact Terry is the only one of the named dinosaurs who doesn’t fight any of his own relatives Edit: relatives is a better word, wrong word choice on my part
@@ukotoa1639 the black T. rex counts because it's literally a modified Tyrannosaurus, same with Gigas. i don't know where did you get the idea that Gigas is a carcharodontosaurid when he clearly uses the same Tyrannosaurus model and is named after the outdated species Manospondylus gigas, which is synonimous with Tyrannosaurus rex
@@maozilla9149 it's a super cute reference the other 2 spectral share, I love it Maximus I think was the name Triceratops had back when we thought it was a MASSIVE Bison (if I remember) And Armatus is named after a dubious stegosaurus species, think it's now classed as Ungulatus now
