How Accurate is FGO's Taisui Xingjun? 

Just some quick tips to fill in about the myth about Taisui's curse. So I actually did a quick search about Taiping Guangzhi and found several stories about it, including the one mentioned at 6:16 , the source material actually did mention that the family had 72 people and most of them died, while one young boy was helped by the families' "brother" (cousins who are not directly related maybe?) and survived. However, when the family found the Shirou, they actually did not try to keep it or build a basement, instead they attempted to whip it for a few hundred times (because they are told that doing so can remove the curse), only to fail because the Shirou itself flew away mid the process. There are a few other stories about Taisui in the literature, and they basically means when planning the buildings, some places or positions are called Taisui place in Fengshui and it's considered forbidden to dig or build on the place. Doing so and finding a Shirou is not only a warning that you should stop, but also a sign that you have awaken the curse and disaster will almost inevitably descend on you. One interesting fact is the Japanese name of Taisui Xingjun's NP Taisui Awaken is "太歳頭上動土", it literally means "to move dirt (implies digging or building) above Taisui", and is a Chinese slung to comment on somebody recklessly or intentionally get themselves in trouble.

He DOES actually appear in another event story, that being the Wandjina World Tour event. So that's something to look forward to.

Taisui has stated a couple times while in their younger form that they are kind of afraid of using their older form, hinting that they wouldn't be able to control their powers as as a god of misfortune to not also affect the Master of Chaldea and their allies

The fact he got a grade of "A" with just his design and connections alone, imagine if he actually had proper screen time. Also, I imagine that everytime his curse dmg activates it's just a swarm of Cons simultaneously hitting the enemy, and once the target is dead they just swarm tp the next poor victim.

I have to give you credit for willingly looking into Sexagenary Cycle, and explain it quite clearly. I always thought this thing common in Chinese culture would be nothing but gibberish for foreigners. I think Taisui is a good pick as a diety servant, like, even in today, people in my country light ceremonial light for Taisui in hope for a better year (when they find their zodiac sign is facing against Taisui this year.)

Taisui Xingjun as a concept is kinda hard to wrap my head around and you helped clear it up. i have one complaint I need to bring up. you were saying his name wrong. it's actually pronounced 'Lambda's son'. hope that helps in the future. p.s looking foward to the siegfried and eventual nezha videos. p.ss Melt's son is also an acceptable pronunciation.

Thank you for researching Taisui Xingjun and making a video about him! I feel the pain of trying to find resources on servants that don't have much documentation on the English speaking internet. So, I'm grateful for these videos that go more in depth on what these historical/mythological figures are like, compared to their Fate versions. I love learning more about history and mythology, and these videos help with learning more about it!

great video as always. its realy interesting to learn aboute characters who are obscure or hard to understand, like for me europian or japanese characters are easy to understand by their popularity or my interest in them but chinese are hard

Good video. Regarding your concerns about future story appearance, most welfare servants that arent just a different class (berserker to rider Kintoki) typically dont appear outside of their event. Since the event was their focus, thats about it. They can appear on the sidelines at times of another event, but will mostly be left untouched unless the right situation appears for them. An example is the welfare Erice showing up a little bit in the valentines event that featured Caren. Of course, Erice is a fate OC who stars in fate requiem (despite the series hardly moving since the first volume in 2018). Sieg and Chloe also appeared in several interludes and events outside of their debut event, i imagine for similar reasons to Erice. So the popularity of the welfare definitely matters, be it that they are from other fate works or just really hit it off with the community to an unprecedented degree. In Xingjun case, they werent the focus of their debut event, it was the Trung sisters. That in itself isnt bad since the Trung sisters are the 5* limited unit of the event, so they should get a lot of screen time to make players want to roll for them more. Yet it was still weird since i had no idea when the welfare was suppose the show up despite knowing the event having one. You could say all the Kon would count since they are then used as the hive mind to create Xingjun, so all of our experiences with the Kon can be associated to Xingjun. Yet that is still a bit unsatisfying, as it would have been great too see more of that character specifically and how they are as an adult.

i adore this taisui! he’s so fun and i think he’s doing interesting things as far as the interpretation of primary sources go. in the vein of future interaction, i want to see him and baobhan- especially the later-appearing summer baobhan. buried meat landmass curse gods have to stick together!! and it seems like morgan’s got a pseudo-maternal relationship with chaldea’s taisui, too :0

the name origin of east Asian wars was a nice fun fact, that their names are the Chinese year they occurred. much like how some European wars could be named based on the year they occurred. Much like ww1 could have been called "the 1914 war" or "the Great War" before 1939 rolled around.

4:16 this information made me imagine that the boy Kiritsugu Emiya saved, didn't say his real name. The boy wanted to say "Shìròu" (Feng), instead he said "Shirou," a Japanese name.

Yeah keep it simplify. Since some can't read any Chinese text or some regions of any local spoken in China. All other written language of other two countries come from ancient China, their customs, religion, traditions, and culture until they had there own written language like Korea and Japan.

So not a huge eastern myth guy but I do a little about a different Xing. I don't think this one is mentioned as I don't play the game but enjoy learning about myths but Xing Tian is a figure I quite enjoyed learning about (although admittedly it's hard to research as English sources are like finding a golden nugget down a drain pipe). Basically he's a god that ends up with his face on his chest. His nipples are eyes and bellybutton his mouth. He got his head cut off and buried beneath a mountain after losing a fight for supremacy against the god Huangdi although even losing his head he is still continuing his fight (I assume to this day and beyond). I guess he's partly supposed to be like the Chinese version of Hercules, as in he represents the indominable will to keep fighting. Gets really odd when in a different source he's described as being minister and a poet that writes for farmers. Not sure how those two things line up but hey it's mythology, shit gets wild.

I agree alter egos are hard to understand but I never understood foreigner as well. Lots of characters fulfil that role but there's tons that just ignores it and goes for the different servant types.

I do wish we got his adult form as a costume, I don't really care much for his chibi form even though I understand why it's that way. His design is great as it feels both earthly yet alien especially with the colours, if I didn't know any better I would have thought he was a Foreigner class servant with his design and NP animation alone.

The thing about the Shirou being shi-yo is interesring, as a Chinese person, the words are pronounced shi-rou but shi isnt like Shirou's but more like "shr" Chinese is weird
