With some additional testing, we determined that the first upper (the loosest shooting rifle in this test) actually tightened to a 1.05" 9 shot, .89" 8 shot group, when we added our suppressor. We have not yet tested the other rifles with suppressors to see if the groups tighten. That group shrinkage mirrors what we've historically seen with running the AEM can on the Mk12 platforms.
Have you folks tried the practical accuracy test on the new RECCE 13.9 inch "Triarc Systems 3.0 Track Barrel"? Maybe sometime in the near future? Does the accuracy justify the price point? Appreciate your time reading this.
How much do you think the 77g BTHP helped? Would M855 fair as well? I’d be curious to see the results you guys have. My 14.5 P&W URGI gets about 1 3/4 to 2 MOA with 55 and closer to 1.5 or less with 62g. Not sure how much is my fault and I am using an EXPS3-2 with g33. I haven’t tried 77 yet.
Something that really needs to be driven home here is that these are *not* 5 shot groups. A lot of people will be inclined to view these results as poor. The reality is that most ARs will not even break 3 MOA, let alone 2 MOA when doing a 9 or 10 shot group. Anywhere in the realm of 1 MOA on a 10 shot average is *extremely* impressive.
For context: The US Army M4's started as 3 MOA guns. Then the army changed over to M855A1. The average M4 improved to shooting approximately 2 MOA. Then, after repeated use the M855A1 burned the M4 barrels out and now they are considered passing if they can hit 5 MOA.
My borderline entry, sig m400 coil (light weight barrel, 16in barrel, mlok hg, sig 2 stage) shot about 3moa off a flipped table with a 1-6. Ars generally aren't precision guns. They're capable, though, in the right hands.
@@TriggaTrey361Barrel material is less relevant than manufacturing precision. The Sig M400's are just about lower mid-range rifles. I'm honestly impressed he managed to average 3 MOA (presumably 9 or 10 round group) given the conditions he described, regardless of a stainless barrel.
I loved this video! The humor, the testing of multiple samples, the 1944 penny. And most importantly you massaged my ego since I have a Super Duty also. 😂 Now I will feel even more confident in my over-weight operator fantasies, just knowing the Super Duty is on patrol…in my gun safe.
"Waddling" up the range....harsh! Not all of us have long gangly legs Josh! We don't blow over in the wind either! Dang that man can shoot! Waddling! Loved the content and can't wait for more!
Man, I searched this last week and was disappointed that you guys hadn’t done one yet. Ordered it, will be here next Tuesday. So fingers crossed that your review is favorable.
oh boy you'll be happy to have it. This is hands down one of the most capable AR15 uppers we've tested. It absolutely demolished the practical accuracy course too.
Same here , I did add a JP silent capture to my 11.5 “ and it is quite noticeable. If sht hit the fan though for reliability purposes the Super 42 will go back in though. After pulling the S42 and testing the super 42 in one of my 10.5” I needed up buy 11 super 42s and 2 friends I let use the super 42 purchased a couple each as well..
My IWI Zion shot a 1.540" 80% ten shot group at 100 yards with PMC XTAC..... That Geissele upper still calls to me though..... Nanotech coating, chrome lined, pretty colors...
I picked up a URGI upper on a Memorial Day sale last year along with one of Geissele’s two-stage triggers. The combination of precision and smoothness makes for an amazing shooting experience. Meanwhile, I’ve enrolled in training to get my skills caught up to the equipment’s capabilities! Not regretting my purchase at all.
I bought a 10.3” URGI contract overrun as my first AR-15 - it’s still one of the most accurate guns I own, despite getting deep into the competition space since. The 10.3” is still my go-to nighttime gun. They make fantastic guns, don’t let the bendy bill memes distract you.
Midway USA are just about the only online retailer I refuse to use after being a victim of their shady and unethical selling practices. There are very many other retailers who offer competitive prices and who don't have a "fuck the customer" approach to their business practices.
My 16 inch super duty couldn't get tighter than 5 inches. Geissele told me it was a duty gun not a precision gun. Replaced the barrel with a criterion and now it's sub moa.
Okay, for everybody else that doesn't have Josh's credit score, if you want the Geissele performance without the entire price-tag, buy the SSA trigger (about $200) and one of their cold hammer forged, chrome lined barrels (about $600... eta: correction, $300, thank you comments). A barrel swap on an Ar15 takes maybe 30 minutes, if the armorer is also eating lunch at the time. A trigger group swap takes even less time. Add some non-rotating pins (not "drift free", those are bullshit). Done like a dinner. The accuracy in the platform is 90% barrel. Period. The rest of the rifle is just hanging onto it. Have a solid stock, decent trigger and maybe cut down on the caffeine a bit, and wa-Lah, the building blocks of a good day. The IMI Razor Core isn't as accurate as the Black Hills Mk262 with the same bullet, but it is an excellent cartridge. I don't have Black Hills money, but I do have IMI money and the 77 grain Sierra HPBTM is a fantastic round.
@@adamgriffin The El Jefe isn't in the same class. It's basically a rack grade rifle produced by everybody else. I use the ALG ACT trigger in some of my rifles, but it isn't the same as the SSA trigger in the rifles being demonstrated here. The barrel is a basic chrome-moly steel, not the CHF, chrome lined barrel in the rifles being shot. The El Jefe rifle's accuracy and barrel life aren't even close. So, in order to get similar results to the video, you'd still have to do the upgrades I described to the El Jefe.
@@Floridaman855 I was looking at the current list price on Brownell's for the 16 inch at about $566. I'd hate to tell someone the sale price and then have them hit with the full monty. Considering the FN CHF barrels are around $300, it's probably more reasonable.
The videos I watch on AR accuracy, especially very expensive ARs the more happy I am with my Sig M400! It was $899 or something for the complete rifle. I put a troy alpha rail on it and a muzzle brake. It literally shoots sub MOA 10 shot groups consistently! The point is I'm realizing I really did get lucky as hell and purchased a unicorn AR when it comes to accuracy! I know people won't believe it but I have videos showing it's accuracy on my channel. I don't have a full 10 group in one go filmed but I'll have to do that soon.
Much to my annoyance, after a considerable expenditure of time and money, I have been unable to build an “SPR” that can outshoot my Black Friday URGI purchase from a couple years ago. 😂 Your experience aligns with the two uppers I have.
I love this comparison. These are my kind of videos. I really do like your channel. If not only am I informed about decisions I am making with weapons. But your opinion is greatly appreciated. Truth and transparency will always win today.
I always wanted a Geiselle URGI, but when my fun money stash replenished I built a precision upper with a Proof stainless barrel and SLR rail that absolutely hammers. I don’t regret it at all, but I still want a Geiselle haha
I have a URGI that I bought from midway 4 years ago. To date it has been my best rifle. Everyone I let try it loves it yet they won’t go buy one. People think a 500 dollar AR is good enough. I learned that lesson back in 2010. You get what you pay for. I also just bought a jakl and I regret it. I should have bought another Geiselle rifle…
Last upper I built was with a RRA SOCOM profile chrome lined barrel that I pulled out of a parts bin at Camp Perry for $70 and It consistently shoots 1/2”- 3/4” groups with my 77gr hand loads that duplicate mk262 velocity. My RMR 69gr load shoots about 1MOA out of that upper. In total the upper cost me about $580 including the $300 for the 1-8 Vortex Strike eagle BDC3 optic that’s on it. Josh, I have a bridge for sale that you might be interested in 😂
This is hilarious, because the same thing happened to me a couple years ago. I bought a 16” Super Duty, put 1k rounds of tula through it without cleaning it, and then shot several sub-MOA groups through it with FGMM. It even shot ~2.25 MOA with the tula…. Between the BF sale that year and the primary arms sales, I ended up with 3 more Super Duty uppers
Shot this test with a Larue 16 in ultimate upper on Larue lower with LT trigger just for the internet! Same 77 gr Imi. Similar gusty Texas weather. NF at 8 power. 1.193 inch 9 shots, 0.95 90%, first 3 into 0.299 in (how Larue typically measures). Made me open my SHTF ammo for this…excuse to buy more!
The G Super Duty & URGI are the most underrated ARs in the market. Currently number 1 in full auto burnout with 900+ rounds, outlasting other Gucci AR like KAC, DD by 60%..sub MOA accuracy out of the box. Take my money already
If you can get your hands on one, and you get the in stock alert, geissele still has those 35% off shot show discount codes floating around, I got my 14.5 super duty mod1 UPPER for 800 plus shipping.
@@Justa_Shooter the codes are single use, theyre on these cards that geissele sends out. they sent me one with my purchase so i have a spare im not going to use.
My 14.5" URGI is a tack driver. 5 shot groups about 0.46" at 100 meters with 55gr speer gold dot. My 16" super duty is about the same, Geissele hit it out of the park with these rifles.
I’d like to see more episodes like this. I find the raw accuracy stats interesting. Ironically the show is 9 Hole Reviews but there aren’t a lot of nine hole groups. Informative as always
You guys should grab a perfect clone of the issued S-VPS ATACR while they are still available. The reticle is different. It would be interesting to see a test between the two
Thank you for making me feel a little less "Why did I ever think spending that much is worth it?!..." The buyers remorse was real until it went on a range day and was keeping it on a paper plate off hand at 100+. (I skimped on targets because the upper bankrupted my play fund)
Anyone who's not also seen the Bloke on the Range recent vid on group sizes needs to, he really digs into why threes and even fives are not aways a good statistical representation. In nothing else it's a fantastic link to send to the FUDs in your life who need an internet expert to set them straight.
I would like to see these tested with an RC since that’s what the military is most likely to be using with the URGI but it looks like you have Dead Air mounts on everything (pinned and welded I presume?). More test like these would be nice… BCM Mk2 upper?
Great video, as usual! I'm glad someone has finally done a deeper dive on this rifle but I was immediately disappointed to hear you bought four of these uppers and not one was running the Daniel Defense contract barrel. While getting a "clone correct" upper is a bit of an effort these days it isn't really that hard to find the barrel itself and you can find uppers that are mostly correct from vendors like Thoroughbred armament and Charlies custom clones to name a few. The combination of a contract BCG (Colt/FN/etc) and a DD barrel are really the heart of the URG-I and the basis for it's performance. Still it's good to see Geissele is continuing to do good things with parts made entirely in house.
Probably won't see many clone correct urgi with the DD barrel now that the US military is using the geissele barrel on all the new ones they're getting
I've not heard that. If you have a source for that, this is as good a place as any to post it. As far as I know, and according to the ARFcom "Official M4A1 USASOC URG-I and NSW URG-I and Clone Picture and Discussion Thread" Daniel Defense was, and is still, the contract provider for all URG-I's. This thread (up to 261 pages currently) contains a chronological posting history from when the original NSWC power points were leaked, the first commercial availability, issues with the original build, T&E, early installs by SOCOM armorers and use by NSW and AFSOC. Many current SOCOM members have posted there and, of course lots of enthusiastic private owners. For what it's worth, my own URG-I (with Colt, DD, Surefire and Geissele parts) puts down similar results with a vortex Razor HD 1-6 and 77gn OTM (black hills). Of note, the barrel is a Daniel Defense and the BCG is a Colt. As far as I know the only reason Geissele is selling an all in-house mfg'd URG-I (aside from profitability) is because sourcing and building an upper form multiple vendors parts was a major PITA for them and all other vendors putting out uppers back in 2018-19. G did sell a "clone correct" upper made from all the aforementioned parts but now its all G made. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with an all Geissele URG-I performance-wise - clearly the thing shoots. But strictly speaking the upper our servicemen are shooting is built from different parts. While this may not make a whole ton of difference as far as muzzle devices and uppers go the heart of the rifle is a Daniel Defense barrel and a contract BCG. Thank you 9-hole reviews for your contribution to the community
Geissele's URG-i outshoots the clone correct rifle. All the cloners are going to be crying about it. There's a channel called GoldenWebb where the guy does barrel meltdown tests and the URG-i outshot the DD barrel. The govt only contracts with Daniel defense for the barrel because it's what they already had in their inventory for the longest time and it's been through their mil-spec certification tests. You're talking about a parts rifle vs one that was all built in one place and not sourced from different places and built by an armorer using old and new parts mashed together.
@@tommysiharath6988 DD's barrel is optimized for M855A1. The contour is matched to the flame curve of the higher pressure round. To my knowledge this barrel is contracted for use with the govt. URG-I as detailed in the original NSWC power point and not "already in inventory" as you've said. Aside from the new pressure requirements and contour update there are also no cuts made for the old M203, making this a unique barrel. Testing and evaluation lasted until 2019. If you like the G set up you should buy that one but don't mistake your preference for knowledge. Again the two "URG-Is" are not the same but do perform closely on papers so your notion that one is "outshooting" the other... I have not heard or seen that. I wonder where you got that idea. DD uses 41V50, not sure about G. Professional users report lifespans in excess of 20K rounds on the DD barrel. That's real usage not some bubba burndown marathon where they blast all the rounds in one sitting in full auto. If all you can get is the Geissele than enjoy it.
@@lawless911sc bro, you sound like a nerd. Definitely a crying cloner. The Geissele barrel outshoots the Daniel Defense. You're trying to cope for your clone correct DD barrel on a video about a dude buying 4 Geissele URG-i uppers and praising them for being really accurate. Don't mistake your preference for knowledge.
Not sure if this has been asked yet but are these URGI using the government profile barrels or Geissele's taper profile like the Super Duties? I would hypothesize that the taper profile should shoot slightly better in theory since the Gov profile was not intelligently designed.
