There’s nothing more depressing than having that mid-Adam video realization that WWE is fundamentally incapable of doing anything nearly as interesting as this
@@BBoy4040 Everything the Fiend did up until his match against Orton at Mania. That match alienated me so much that I turned off the TV there and then and haven't watched a WWE match since.
@@vids2002 except why give WWE the benefit of the doubt?? They pissed away all my money I ever gave them into booking characters I didn't want to see for years on end, so to hell with The WWE.
Agreed to both sentiments. How he wasn't legit injured from that is amazing. Also, why did he pitch forward? If I was doing that spot, I would lean back *slightly* to make sure the wheelchair takes the brunt of the impact instead of my legs. Granted it may tilt back all the way off of impact and I may crack my head on the ground, but I'd rather take my chances with that than break the fall with my legs and risk breaking something important.
Shout out to KingLex or whatever his name was, the guy who commented "Rebook Zack Ryder's US Title run!" until Adam finally caved and did it. Proof that sometimes, persistence pays off.
@@kingoutback first person to understand the advantages of social media and how it helps you create a genuine connection to the fans but yeah sure let's just say he sucks for no damn reason and job him out while we lose incredible amounts of money.
Every time I watch one of these videos, I feel a twinge of unbridled rage for how easily a crappy storyline could have been fixed or avoided altogether, and then Adam tells us how he would do it and I feel loads better. Bless this man. Jam that jam.
@@Lynch2507 not really, Peacemaker doesn't care if he has to do the bad thing to stop bad people, so imagine John Cena fighting as a heal to beat heals.
@@Lynch2507 Well, kind of. I'm not hugely familiar with the character, but from what little I've gathered, he has a mental illness of some kind that causes him to believe so firmly in his personal mission to protect peace, he'll kill anybody he deems to be disturbing it at the drop of a hat. It eventually drove him to become a very dangerous, unstable vigilante.
Cena totally should've played John Walker/US Agent in Falcon and Winter Soldier. There are a lot of parallels between this rebooking and Walker's arc from that show. Also, Bucky saying "lookin' strong, John" would have had a WHOLE new meaning attached to it if Cena played Walker.
19:24 "He really, need to beat the Rock" Here, WWE can build parallels of Cena, with Stone Cold Steve Austin: Back in 2001, Austin felt he was no longer número uno, so he needed to beat the Rock, and that lead to him turn to the dark side! So, will Cena give in to that path, or he's gonna separate his legacy by resisting the change. Personally, I go with resisting the change, but get a new, tweener attitude for Cena, so that Wyatt can finally finish what Kane started: Make Cena Embrace the Hate! Fantástico booking, Adam
I hope you're one of their patrons on their Patreon. I don't think they take requests here anymore. But yeah, I'd LOVE to see Adam re-book Rusev Day, on Rusev Day.
I just realized that the original Embrace the Hate storyline was basically a shitty version of the Firefly Funhouse Match. Demonic entity confronts John Cena and tries to make him admit the truth about himself by any means necessary, only "Embrace the Hate" never bothered to land the touchdown.
I don't know. If this version of Kane went THAT far to get back in touch with his inner monster, it might be too much for even DBry and Dr. Shelby to fix
@@talonthehand Mixed for me, it was an here-we-go ''oh boy'' because i saw his zack ryder us championship video and it was a good thing he referenced it.
Honestly, _anything_ would have been better than what happened in real life. Embrace the Hate wasn't as abysmal as, say, Katie Vick, but it was still a monumental failure on every single level: it had no effect on Cena whatsoever, made Kane look impotent, damaged Eve Torres with pointless and really tasteless slut-shaming, and _absolutely ruined_ Zack Ryder. It was so bad it was as if the entire intention of the feud from the start was just to punish Zack for his hubris in daring to get himself over, and the whole incorporation of Cena into it was nothing more than a smokescreen to hide that.
Since we're doing Kane videos my I recommend his entire backstory making since, (yes that includes Katie Vick and May 19th). And since the forbidden door has not been kicked open but blown off it's hinges, Vince McMahon as the Higher Power because you said you would if we wanted you too and I can't speak for everyone but I really want you to. It can be apart of your multiverse you created when you put Randy Orton against The Fiend instead of Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 37 with no explanation or official retcon.
I like the angle on WM28 with a pass on the chair shot. I feel like it's great ring psychology when a flyer works heel by teasing and denying a big dive because pleasing the fans isn't worth it. I would love the story of Cena doing the same with a chair because the fans want him to turn, but he knows it's wrong and he won't appease their wrong desires, even when it costs him. That's delightfully layered
Random piece of info: I was a chubby little 3rd grader at this time who loved John Cena and always bought his T shirts and that whole Rise Above Hate T Shirt and story helped me feel better after kids would make fun of me.
@@davidevens2147 Cena's character being for kids doesn't justify him being boring and generic with no personality. There are plenty of kid friendly characters who are interesting and entertaining with more to them than just "guy" or "girl." Kids understand more than most give them credit for and can handle complicated characters. So saying "It's OK if a badly written character's boring and bland because they're for kids" or "Kids will like anything no matter how bad because they're kids" is disrespectful to them.
I think this is probably my favourite Adam booking, because Adam gets why I like Cena and we see it on display here and in his Cena's last run video. Thanks for this, Mr. Blampied.
That storyline would be great IF the crowd reacts how you want them to. One thing to remember is that the marks were loud in their booing, but there were a lot of people who cheered for him too (i.e. kids). I’m curious what your plan B would be if the crowd started to support him (or at least enough cheer him to make the boos seem less dominant).
Another thing. We know how flip-flop the marks are. The moment they have Cena show any sign of turning heel, they're gonna start cheering him immediately.
I'd say have Cena focus on any boos, to the point of paranoia. His literal chant was "Let's go Cena; Cena sucks". Have him hyperfocus on anybody that boos him and use that as an excuse for distraction.
In Cena's case I don't think that would be a problem, though I see where you're coming from. The Cena hating was a life force in of itself by that point, like the 'You Suck' chants for Kurt Angle, teasing a proper heel turn wouldn't have stopped it. The bit of this booking that would've got an interesting reaction (IMO) was the moment where he outright said he hates the fans - I'm inclined to say heavy booing with a faint but pronounced hint of cheering. LOL
@@NateLeonhart Not necessarily. For example, while Roman gets a lot of praise out of character for his Heel persona, the fans at WM 37 still booed him loudly because they were invested in his story and in booing him as the villain. The narrative of "fans are fickle" is one of the WWE's tools of gaslighting where they take a popular wrestler they fucked up with and then blame the fans by pretending that the fans turned on the wrestler for no reason, when often it's more complicated than that and comes down to the WWE fundamentally misunderstanding what made them popular to begin with.
The fact that he mentioned what culture, then encourages us to go watch an old video on a channel that he’s not on anymore, and then called the other Adam a cutie. Makes my heart happy to know it’s not bad blood between them your all mint🤞🏻
To my understanding he left on good terms with everyone. If anything, he left Cultaholic on bad terms since the controversy surrounding that actually delayed the launch of that and potentially cost them a lot of money
I've been watching your videos for about 6 years now Adam, your voice has been with me as I became an adult. Thank you for always making such great content 👍
Heck, get crazy and end the feud with the Cena v. Rock v. Punk triple threat. The major players from Cena’s 2012 all coming together to make that happen would’ve been stellar!
Considering that he was the main catalyst for WWE to start investing into social media platforms like RU-vid, Facebook, Twitter and etc. Not to mention his merch were always sold out, they did him incredibly dirty. Probably one of the first cases of WWE purposely burying a wrestler that got massively over by themselves
Can confirm. The Godfather of wrestling media whos effects one can argue had WWE dive headfirst into social media which spread to the indies which spread to large cases like Bullet Club which spread to Being The Elite which yeah, hello AEW. I'm not saying without Zack Ryder, AEW would never have existed, but at the very least, he had an impact on the road to its creation and an impact on the entire wrestling landscape that not even close to enough people credit him for
@@vta2265 it's hilarious they stopped giving that brass ring speech after he tried to reach for it and the moral dropped in the locker room after they buried him.
We all need to take a moment and thank partsfunknown for giving adam this series because (in my, albeit uncultured, opinion) he's better at writing these stories than any other person I've seen on youtube, or any other social media for that matter
BOOK THE EGG, BLAMPIED. Also, this is just... spot on. Brilliant writing. For what it's worth, you've inspired me to start doing fantasy booking as well. So thanks.
During the last couple of videos in this series I was sceptical cause I saw a lot of re-bookings being an excuse for some good matches. But here, I salute you sir. That was oscar worthy character work and development. The motives behind every action, the reasoning, the transition between feuds were brilliant. And to be honest, after all these years, I actually like John Cena I would want the end of this storyline being him actually winning the fans back.
Honestly Adam I fully agree with you on this one I think this one makes a lot more sense honestly because we look at the original embrace the hate storyline it felt like more like a filler and you never really thought of seeing that actually had that much of a bad year but it was done by you you know I agree it makes complete sense on each match that he won he should have actually lost and not lost by this qualification or interference but just lost clean. It would have made his loss to the rock mean a lot more than actually did.
I had far too much fun laughing at this storyline when it aired. Zack Ryder was the Hans Moleman of the WWE and this storyline only made it more apparent.
I like that the endpoint to this calls back to wrestlemania X7 with Austin saying "I need to beat you Rock", it's a nice bit of history repeating itself
Only thing I would change is have Punk beat Rock at the rumble, and have to go into a triple threat with Cena, Rock and Punk at Mania, like originally planned. IMO it’ll make the story come full circle.
Good job! I'd like to Adam do a rebooking of a WCW angle. He did one a few years ago (Bret Hart in WCW), so it'd be fun to see him do another. And there is a goldmine of potential in WCW's history.
Never thought I'd see the day. No, genuinely thought Adam would NEVER do this one after watching how he'd book Zack Ryder's US Title Reign (still a really good booking). Looking forward to this.
I’d love to see a “How Adam…” on WWE’s women’s tag titles. They’ve been booked so absolutely frustratingly, including splitting up and then releasing the only actual women’s tag team!
THANK YOU! After not watching wrestling for 5 years (only checking rumble results and watching the wrestlemania Taker matches via youtube) the first episode of Raw I watched had Kane return. I was hyped and felt lucky. So I started watching again and my god I was disappointed. So thank you for this. Much love
Unlike Adam I would actually like to see this babyface version of Cena or more accurately the tweener version of Cena. Who no longer believes in the fans but still is a genuine babyface fighting for himself or other he consider allies. That is more interesting than any heel turn could ever provide a babyface in disbelief that's interesting.
You know. You're right, and one of the fundamental missteps of the WWE for the last few years is they mistake turns for character development. Shifting someone into a completely different person rather than growing and expanding the person they are in an organic fashion.
This is a great way to bring back 2001 Kane. The 2nd best Kane. Bring back the outfit, the dominance, the mean streak, but leave out the jokes/comedy. Love it
I really like this. WWE have seemed to play with their own established meta more the past decade. Right now it’s usually just in the form of an insider term finding it’s way into a promo or real life events being vaguely referenced. This (assuming the crowd actually does bite the way Adam anticipates) is genius. Since the age of the internet it’s seemed there’s two realities. The one we “hardcore” fans live in and the reality that encompasses the actual show itself. That disconnect is toxic. Stories like this (especially coming off of summer of punk and leading into the yes movement) would really have helped foster a better environment for fans for the future. If you’re going to manipulate the audience….really manipulate them. Don’t beg us to cheer a guy who isn’t ready. Don’t beg us to boo the most relatable characters. Remain a step ahead and use the audience to elevate your world instead of building it in spite of us.
The saddest part about this brilliant booking is that the "powers that be" wouldn't understand the nuances behind it. The baiting of the crowd, the logical human reaction from Cena to a hateful audience. It's fantastic.
Commenting as I go, sooo.... 2:55, best Palpatine impression I've ever heard. Wish I had it as my notification tone. Yet another fantastic booking. Legit pissed at WWE Creative now. So many missed opportunities... Good Job.
“He burns himself and returns wearing the OG mask.” I have a better idea. Instead of the original, why not give him the Rip Hamilton/Cody see through face mask? Or maybe half/half it. Half see through/burnt, half color?
