What is Hindu Extremism? To know that you'll have to know what is the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS), the largest NGO in the world, and the Sangh Parivar. I'll tell you a short history. In 1921, a movement started against the British in Kerala(southern state of India) called the Khilafat movement. It was conducted by Muslims in protest of removing the Khalifa(The ruler of Ottoman Empire and de facto ruler of the Muslim world). It gained support of the Congress Party and Gandhi. But it soon turned into an anti-hindu movement. A genocide of Hindus took place but the Congress did nothing to stop this. Then a person from the Congress Party called K. B Hedgewar wanted to create an organisation for the Hindu cause. He started the Sangh, later renamed the Rashtriya Swayasevak Sangh. This organisation slowly started to gain momentum and became one of the most powerful organisation in Independent India. It formed many sub groups. Some are : Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) - the student union, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh(BMS) - Labour Union, Seva Bharathi - Social Service organisation, Vidya Bharathi - Educational Institutions. And the Most Important Bharathiya Janata Party(BJP) - Political Party(current ruling party of India). PM Modi and many of the Ministers are members of the RSS and fought their way up from the grassroots of the RSS. The entire group of organisations is collectively called the Sangh Parivar, parented by the RSS. Fun Fact : The RSS does not collect a single rupee from anyone. All their workers are selfless volunteers who volunteered to serve the Nation and fight for Hindu causes. Since the Sangh Parivar became so popular, influential and powerful the other parties wanted to taint them. For this they created a new term called "Hindu Extremism" and blamed RSS and Sangh Parivar as the leader of it.

There was some discountent and even some conspiracy thoeries that were floating in Bangladesh that the entir 1971 fiasco was a plan by India to weanken a Muslim nation like Pakistan. Despite the hatred, most people on both sides are sympathetic to each other because of the language Bengali. Then again if you ask him, the situation in Bangladesh is changing again and the recent politcal fiasco between the PM of Bangladesh and the opposition (which are politically anti indian) is a new development and change in the sentiments of people. Although i can't comment much on the west bengali and how they feel about the whole situation, both the history and the current state government there, WB is an important piece of the india puzzle and many great Indian heros like Nethaji, vivekananda and rabindra nath tagore are from this place.
