No, Taobao is available outside of China. I am from Singapore, and my son and daughter ordered merchandise from Taobao, too. Once I saw a very cute non-flat bottom glass (for drinks) in Bangkok. I wanted to buy it, but the restaurant said that it was not for sale. My daughter searched for it in Taobao and bought half a dozen at S$2.00 each. I was surprised when she showed me and I asked her how she got it and she said from Taobao. On another occasion while eating at a Japanese restaurant, there was a very cute wine goblet with a hole in the center for putting in ice so that the ice doesn't come in contact with the wine. I commented that the goblet is very cute and my son found it on Taobao and ordered them for me.

Yes, anyone could just buy anything from Alibaba. Alibaba is just a portal that link you directly to the businesses/products. As the middleman/portal for the transactions, Alibaba earns less than 3% of the sales transacted (but since Alibaba's revenues is more than $500 billion, it is quite a substantial amount).

The frenchy because only the very cheap fake products are attractive to foreign customers, the real one what you what like nike, adiddas are even expensiver in China and the customers will not have the interest to buy them, most the foreigners can buy the real one with cheaper price in their country, especially the americans. In addition, as far as I know, alibaba concentrates itself mostly to the business customers for wholesale, it's really not a good place for individuell customers and the biggest c2c company in China is taobao and Tmall, the daughter company of aligroup, there is a lot of viedo in RU-vid about how to buy in taobao. There is also many fake products in Taobao(also in Ebay and the Amazon marketplace, all imported from China by the foreign customers...), but there are much more real ones in Taobao and you usually can distinguish from them easylly with some features for example much cheaper than the ovp or the average price in the market. Tmall is like taobao but 99% of the sellers selling only the real one.

And taobao and Tmall is much much much much much more interesting than alibaba for their very very plentful kinds of products you can find than Ebay or Amazon, especially for the individual customers.

Everybody knows that there are lots of fake products from ebay and Amazon, too. The "reliability" actually depends on the sellers, since everyone in the world could use any of these (Alibaba, ebay, Amazon) to sell their products. However, there's safety measure for buyers using Alibaba since IF buyers are not satisfied with the products they received, Alibaba will withhold payment to the sellers and the buyers get back the refunds.
