There's an amazon store in my town. Whenever I need to make a return I literally just walk in and put my package in a drop box. In and out in 15 seconds, barely enough time to say have a nice day to the person working there.

When working in retail, one really begins to understand just how disgusting, rude and trashy people truly are. When I worked at Gucci, people would buy a shirt on Friday, wear it for the weekend and return it on Monday smelling of cigarettes, alcohol and sweat. One lady wanted to return a headband she purchased 15 years ago, so we had to get out the archives because it was no longer in the system. The worst is a woman who defecated all over a fitting room after we refused to return a shirt. I don’t work in retail now, but when I did, I really began to wonder how the hell we’ve made it this far as a species. There’s just so many idiots out there.

As a heavy Amazon user, I avoided purchasing clothes just out of concern of returns being too much effort. Now that they have the Kohls return option I notice that I don’t hesitate to purchase clothing since they have removed that perception of difficulty returning small items. I also like that Kohls offers a coupon with all returns and I find myself picking up additional items while there. Before Amazon partnered with Kohls, I had not been to a Kohls since the late 90s. It truly is a win win for both Amazon and Kohls.

My best two Amazon issues I’ve dealt with was, Once I bought my $250 gaming desk, once I opened the box I was in shock that the back lady corner was damaged like it was dropped on that corner during shipping, so I called and complained to Amazon, Well they didn’t wanna bother having me return the entire desk so they just refunded me my total $250 and I got to keep the desk anyway, then I used the $250 refund to buy my ultrawide gaming monitor so essentially got the desk and the monitor for that $250 Then more recently, we moved into our trailer house back in May, then we bought a crib guard on Amazon for our now 1yr old daughter and they delivered it to the wrong trailer house in our park, We had to walk around the park trying to find the house that matched the picture of the house Amazon actually delivered it to, we found the house but the package was gone and no one answered the door, so we went home and called and complained to Amazon, we ended up getting over $200 gifted to us to cover the loss from not getting the item we bought plus extra for having such a difficult experience, then like two days later the neighbor who got our package came walking around the block and found us and we finally got the item after we had already got the free $200 from Amazon lol

Depends on how you look at it. You got dressed, got in a car and drove dealing with traffic/stoplights etc, walked around a store finding what you want, spent time in dressing rooms, the list goes on. I use Amazon wardrobe. I get to try it on before I buy it and what I don't like goes back in the bag with a provided return sticker and gets tossed in a mail box. It's way less of a hassle than going to the store and trying stuff on. Plus I get to use the availability of the internet with vast options opposed to a single stores stock and I get to do it naked. Capitalism for the win.

I am a very long term Amazon customer. Overall I am very happy with the service and I think the company is superb. My one gripe are the reviews. I always write a review, especially if the product is good. But on the rare occasion that I buy a product through Amazon and it is poor or the seller customer after sales service is bad - then I write a one star review. Time and again I am told my review is not acceptable and cannot be published. I never use bad language or unacceptable commets. But the bad reviews stay hidden. I wonder how many other Amazon customers have found this "selective" review policy. Not a good reputation for Amazon to have after all their years of hard work creating the best on-line company in history.

Hey Amazon or Bezos, if you do the following you will reduce your volume of returns: * Remove the counterfeit items * Provide better product descriptions * Revamp the ratings system (employ AI to find fake reviews, break out ratings into delivery experience/seller, product quality/durability, price/value, etc.) * Do an automatic price adjustments if the price of an item is substantially lower within a week of purchase (Customers will return items purchased on Amazon and repurchase right on Amazon beyond a certain price difference; Example, someone purchaes a pair of headphones for 39.99 and two days later it's 19.99 right on your site.)

2 possibilities for returns "Wall of Shame". 1) Resell and ship it direct from the local "store" or warehouse. People buying on Amazon don't know or care where it came from. If the return was catalogued correctly eg. "Women's blue blouse size 7" and someone orders a 7 blue blouse, repackage and ship it from the return location. Or 2) set up a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly sale at the warehouse where customers can browse and buy the returned items at a discounted price. Everyone loves a deal. It's not really rocket science. When companies become so large, they tend to forget the HUGE problems are really just a whole bunch of small problems that appear to be much larger than they really are. Simple solutions work for all sizes of problems.

Hey, Amazon is really a Dracula if you'll know the reality. I have worked for Amazon that's why I can say this. They just push the Costs and Losses to the sellers for any mistake and still keeps their cuts. They don't have to pay much. Returnless Refund/replacement is the best option for you when they're gonna throw away that product. They've shown incorrect statistics about Damaging products have highest return rates, actually items not delivered on time have the highest return rates. I think that amazon should be returning the product to original seller as they do for India instead of Burning/dumping it. FBA items are generally those.

They can sell it all if they care to do the work, but intelligent consumers want to evaluate items, and be assured that anything which doesn't meet spec will be replaced at no cost. They can easily start/extend their own auction systems, if they don't want to support competitors, but they'll need to pay humans to evaluate, describe, and handle the items. Open-box auctions are effective.

I work at a UPS Store, the returns process is still really flawed. 1. Amazon issues the customer a QR code which we scan, which tells us if we package the return for free (no box needed) or if the customer still needs a box. They let the customer know in the instructions, but honestly the majority of people never read them and just assume every return is “free” and the same because that’s what they are always told. 2. If a customer is returning multiple items from the same order, amazon will often issue out seperate codes, and some may be package-less while others aren’t. The customer assumes all of their items can go in one box when this isn’t true. They even do this for large and heavy packages in seperate boxes but with only one code or label. 3. The UPS Store prints receipts for UPS drop off packages that has the date time, and UPS 1Z tracking number. The problem with amazon returns is that it still issues this receipt for items that are “package less”. (Point 1). These items get consolidated into a box with other peoples returns, and can sit in the store for a few days. Therefore, there is no real “tracking number” for these items yet the receipt gives the customer a UPS tracking number that will never ever be scanned. This makes it really confusing for the customer when they go to check their return and it doesn’t have any info. Then we look like the bad guys because we either didn’t give them a receipt or it looks like we lost it (they assume the ups store employee ie steals it or lost it). 3. Many older customers who are not tech savvy have such a hard time even finding their code, or they physically take a picture of their computer screen, and we can’t often scan the codes when they are that way. Some do so many returns that they give us the wrong ones or lost their code themselves. Amazon tried its hardest to make the returns easy to understand but the reality is there is a large demographic of users who struggle with them. These issues create headaches at ups stores and other outlets that take amazon returns. They hold up lines and get angry at us for issues that Amazon is responsible for. I would say 60 percent of my day on average is spent scanning peoples codes or packing the returns, and while the store gets a certain small # for each scan, the employee doesn’t see any of that and the customer rarely spends any money at the store. Amazon needs to make its return process and the codes more consistent and user friendly for its other demographics. If there is a QR code associated with the return, Amazon should make it so EVERY QR code is a package less return (for consistency). If there is a case in which the customer needs a physical UPS label, amazon should have a separate mechanism for us to process those and should be more clearly differentiated from the free returns. In a perfect world, they should only let the returns be done at amazon-owned outlets like Whole Foods, Amazon Bookstore, and maybe retail outlets like Kohl’s and other big box retailers who stand to benefit from the influx of foot traffic. The UPS Store is not an optimal outlet for returns due to how we work with the shipping software we use and how the majority of stores operates and what our customer interaction is like. This is a problem that UPS Store corporate and Amazon has created when they decided to launch a program that did not think about its other primary user - the ups store employee and franchise owner. This is inherently bad design because it is not user friendly and is not sustainable. I am currently typing this rant before I clock in for the day. Thanks for reading and hope this was educational
