I always thought Ame’s voice sounded very real. Like the girl next door type that you grew up playing games with kind of vibe. Kinda cute in its own normal but slightly nerdy way, not trying too hard to “hide” her normal speaking patterns with a cuter higher pitched “girly” voice. Ofc she ends up sounding super cute anyway cause she’s just a natural cutie :)

people copying it by working wqith vowels instead of the real deal just sounds like "Valley Girls" operating a McDonalds Drive-through, which is nothing like Ame. Ame sounds more like she's cute and thinking and remembering as she'll telling a story, with tonal shifts that keep the sounds interesting. Too easy to get into "lecture mode" otherwise

Rather ironic. Correct me if I'm remembering this wrong, but didn't she state that she's not a very great singer during her recruitment interview, which surprised her when she ended up getting the job in spite of it? Incidentally, I always figured that that was probably why she was the last member of Myth (by quite a wide margin) to release an original song.

This reminds me a lot of Ophelia Midnight's vtuber voice breakdown/analyses videos back in the day where she also does these linguistic deep dives and at the end tries to mimic how the girl being discussed sounds like with her own voice. Even though I know jack nothing about linguistics and voice science stuff at all, Ophie's and your explanations feels very very intuitive even without any in-depth discussions of the theory! It's so cool learning more about what makes the voices good or unique.

She has the smooth and cute voice, but her gritty gremlin voice is truly something else. Other voices that are super identifiable are obviously Subaru, Towa and Okayu, but I can identify Fubuki every time. She has a certain fry in some places and a noticeable timbre.

I've been kind of noticing my voice doing some vowel replacement om my own, like when I say "thank ya" at work it will sometimes sound like "thankee" it's kind of weird if you pay attention to words you like using or adding some to your vocabulary. "Howdy" being something I didn't really use until I played rdr2.

As an L2 speaker I don't have any particular english accent, but what comes out is sort of all over the place. From vocal changes between more american /ɛ/ and more british /a/, to alveolar taps like in some english accents, gaelic, esperanto, malay or spanish.

Fascinating! I always tried to ascribe qualities to the voices of streamers I like to organize them or better explain what about them appeals to my ear. Nice to discover there is academic background for this kind of thing. I would love to see you tackle Hakos Baelz, she has so many different 'modes' she bounces between (appropriate for an embodiment of chaos).

Amalia Watson is a magnificent being. She's doing all these naturally cheerful voices, but if listen carefully, she slips and shows her shyness in every breaths (I exaggerated, he has audio gate keeping her breaths muted). This shyness is later confirmed by Takanashi Kiara talking about off-collab with her. I was AMEzed by her dynamic ways of speaking, not because it's novel, but I always do that too, and I've never heard many people do that. This is what I call "Story teller technique", because it's how you'd tell a story to kindergarten kids. It also means anyone speaking like this is a cartoon/anime voice acting enthusiast or professional. But the most magical thing about her voice is really the weight, it's heavy but still feels very light. It's like hearing a bell made of pure titanium.

As a trans person, I've actively tried to intuit how voices sound masculine or feminine beyond just pitch before, and it still stumps me even though I've figured out how to speak in more masc or femme tones to some degree. This was so interesting and explained so accessibly! Like yeah, I don't feel confident in sorting sharp or dull vowel pronunciations myself from this one video, but it gives me a better understanding of how to describe ways of talking that I didn't have the vocabulary or understanding for before. Thank you!! Great job on the video! If you make a part 2 or longer videos, I would not complain haha

Even though Ame is my oshi, I always thought compared to a lot of EN speaking vtubers her voice was "unmemorable" relatively. To me from a pure, speaking voice; the stand-outs to me in EN/ID Hololive would be Fauna, Zeta, Mococo, Kronii, and Mumei/Gura. Fauna and Zeta are natural ASMR, very pleasant, clear and soft tones. Mococo has a very exaggerated accent that's cute, funny, memorable. Kronii has a remarkable low end and clarity to her voice. Mumei and Gura have this mumbly, fast, and youthful nature to their voice. I think they both also share a lot of vocal intricacies that you mentioned Ame having, but Ame is more mature sounding generally. That being said, I always enjoy listening to Ame the most. The others sound amazing, but can be "fatiguing" or "boring" after a while. I think it's the way Ame plays with your expectations like you said that keeps listening to her fresh and interesting.
@Miriiverse
@Miriiverse Месяц назад
Yeah! I wanted to start with her exactly because its unmemorable compared to the very crazy stuff other members do sometimes.

2:36 I do not know how "karaoke" got pronounced as "karioke" or variants of it, as "kara", the same as that in "karate", means empty, void, or absence. "Karate" is literally "the art of empty hands", which is of course a system of unarmed combat. "Karaoke" means "the absence of an orchestra" where "oke" is a Japanese abbreviation of "orchestra", meaning singing to pre-recorded music. We never pronounce "karate" as "karite", so it's odd that we do that to "karaoke".

I agree she speaks in a playful way, but I wonder if she is aware of any of this ... Nor can I hear most of it, it just sounds like making some words clearer, or more uwu for emphasis, partly just accent, partly showing focus and its role in the "sentence" ... - To call it vowel replacement feels excessive to me: slightly modulating vowels is a very normal thing to do imo. - I don't hear the uh vs i at all like it was color highlighted. Just tone, intonation, clarity vs slur, thinking, "grounding" the sentence vs uwu for sort of italics in spoken form ... - Most of it feels very natural to me, except she lengthens some vowels as a form of sounding different AND to replace "um" sounds in a very nice way. AND of course except when she is clearly doing a voice like "thank you". not that I know much about pronunciation :D I cannot even properly read IPA.
@dombo813

Seems like a stretch to me. I didnt notice anything abnormal about the pronunciation of singing or karaoke, this is how all american vtubers talk, it's not unique. A lot of them are impossible to tell apart by voice.

If you know who Ame was before she was Ame, and what she was before Ame as herself, it this all tracks 100%. She knew what she was doing from the moment she streamed to Twitch the first time for what seems like forever ago into a career-and-a-half on RU-vid with HoloLive

It could be either! A lot of how we speak is picked up from our environment. Some aspects are more intentional. I think its safe to say Ame's voice is an exaggeration of her true self, not "fake" or anything crazy like that
