American Dad is goated. I say better than family guy.

The reason why I like American Dad so much more than Family Guy is because it’s consistently funny, the main characters are treated as characters, the jokes work for the episode not making an episode to make the jokes work, next to no cutaway gags and the episodes having an actual story to it. Literally any pair in American Dad will be funnier than any pair in Family Guy, even Stewie and Brian.

American dad is fantastic and knows how to be funny. Even poke fun at the characters not changing by making alternative universes but have it make sense. The writers for this show know it's supposed to be funny.

American Dad is just a better written show with better characters. The humor does not overstate it’s welcome. Also, for some reason American dad has movie quality animation budget especially when it comes to the Jeff alien space episodes. 👀

I always preferred American dad over Family guy. Family guy is just too random. I know that's the joke, but I don't find it interesting. I mean, at one point Peter Griffin becomes a godfather to his friend's baby, the next he is fighting mobsters and gets saved by a can of sauce!? In American dad there is a thing called "continuity". It was revealed in one episode that Stan Smith has a brother and they keep mentioning him in other episodes. How many "twin siblings" does Peter have at this point? Moreover, in American dad they give a reason to all the weirdness; The fish can talk because they replaced its brain with that of a skier. It is still weird, but I find it better than "Animals talk, it's totally normal" or "The family can understand the baby only when plots needs it". Also, the Smiths, despite all the weirdness, are still a loving family with a few hints of relatability. Peter Griffin is a childish idiot who makes fun of and even beats his own kids (mostly his daughter who I think is one of the few sympathetic characters). I think the Griffins haven't killed themselves yet because the Network wants the show to continue to make money off the few people who still watch it. I cannot mention that American dad has an overarching plot that keeps you interested and anxious for more: The Golden Turd. Family Guy has its Chicken fights. They might be enjoyable, but I feel like they are just filler.

American Dad at its peak tells not only great stories, but is hilarious through and through. Boy is it past its peak.

I love American dad and I’ve enjoyed family guy before but family guy just feels dirty compared to AD, like that smell in a old model dollar general or Kmart, that’s how the characters and story feels in Family guy.
