How does an emotion tube actually work? Nobody seems to know! After you watch this video. You will know!
I'm Not A Mekanik!
Just all DIY
WARNING!
Please note that I'm also assuming that your running with the correct jets on your IDF carbs!
If you are not..... Do not mess with your emulsion tubes!!!!!!!!
My fuel height setting is from the top of the edge of the bowl down to approx.. 32.00mm just barely touching the top edge of the fuel. If you are not there, adjust your float to get the fuel to the approximate 32.00mm in height to the top edge of the bowl.
2.0L Porsche engine jets
44IDF Carbs
Idle Jet .52mm
Main Jet 1.25mm
Air Correction Jet 1.85mm
Venturi 32mm

I really liked the way you made technology a base on modifying the engine performance. We are nothing without the correct tools 👍

I just found your video and made the exact same discovery earlier today. I also have a rich situation as soon as the main circuit takes over. One thing to add maybe. If you see the overly rich condition at high rpm you can easily swap to a bigger air correction jet. They do only effect the high rpm range. Maybe easier than experimenting with drills.

This was incredibly helpful, thank you! This helped me solve a tuning issue I was having on my Datsun 510 with dual Mikuni 44s. I finally understand the relationship between the main and air jets and how the air jet can be used to fine tune the air fuel ratio. Thank you!

Just check a catalogue and see what other types emulsion type better fit your purpose, and/or just adapt with other main jet or air correction jet? The drilling out has allready been done for you, hence the vast choice in emulsion tubes (and jets)

Am I right in saying you seem to be aiming for stoich at all RPMs? But for full power at high rpm you need to be running about 12:1 otherwise you will not gat max power and may damage your engine.

Thanks for doing this experiment! I’m going to swap the motor out of my 914 this winter. I bought a complete engine from MOFOCO that comes with IDFs. I’m guessing they will be the Chinese variety so your IDF videos have been great!

Thanks for the heads up on how emulsion tubes work. But why choose narrow band as its like working almost blind? Narrow band is more like a switch that only tells you either weak or rich from the Stoich value (14.7:1 or Lambda=1), it doesn't tell you or I dont see how you can tune your carb for best mixture over the full range since Stoich. is far too weak for full power, and may be a bit too rich for light cruising. Wideband is much better as it gives the actual Lambda reading over the whole Lambda range.

i have to make more holes.. got it. 14:14 or make holes bigger.. Air is the Key, Make room for air circulation.. Thanks a lot man... i have already seen 1000 videos.. literally 1000's of video none of them come close to this.. tweaking , tuning air screw, fuel scrww all are bull shits ... Emulsion tube is ONE.. thanks again.

A wideband gauge works well with a narrowband oxigen sensor..? or should I buy a Wideband sensor..?

I just installed AEM WIDEBAND on the bug. Comes with plenty of wire to do a complete install. Seems to work perfectly. But anyway I recommend a wideband.

Wideband is superior in every way. Narrow band is what the it name says. Narrow. You might know where the ideal is, but it can't reliably tell how much, which wideband can. What is even more critical is,that stoich area is essentially only for neutral engine load. On full throttle you don't want it to be stoich, especially on charged engines. Therefore you absolutely need wideband to tune engine carefully.

So you are trying to get your whole fuel curve to stoichiometric ratio of 14.7:1?

Okay so assuming you have the correct idle Jets and you're getting a hesitation with a 1.16mm main jets couple of things you can do. Increase the main jet to about 1.20mm or a125mm last lower your air corrector to 180 either one of those should remove the hesitation. Do not do both of them at the same time.

As far as widebands. I actually just ordered a brand new AEM wideband. I'll be installing it very soon.

If I may ask, did the drilling the holes drop the performance of the carbs by not being as rich as it was when the holes wer not drilled.? I know the power band does not change...

any advice on plugging up a hole in the emulsion tube? I put a Weber 38 DGES on my 1.5L honda CRX. runs absolutely great above 2k rpm. below that it's SUPER touchy and if you give it too much throttle, it'll go super lean (21+) and start stalling out for about a second or two, then catch and take off. currently it has an F50 tube on it and i ordered a F66 which lacks the top most hole the F50 has. Thinking about trying to plug it up and see what kind of difference it makes, while i wait for the new one to come.

Didnt your son say he did not want those on his car, to much headache ???? If we ever get the covid stuff over you can get a stroker and big bore kit for the type 4 but it take mucho machining.

He doesn't... He's running with the 34pict3 no Venturi on his new 2234cc install. But he is not going to make Max hp. It will still be in the 120 to 130hp with the 34pict3 carb. It's still pretty good for a single carb setup.

@@Motor7710 I got me a headache I got a EMPI Progressive 32/36 and it has on the main jets p.137 and S. 140 . This is set up for no Manifold heat . I will need to get a 125 main jet to lean out the primary.
