Great video, my opinion island packet is one of the best in quality and looks really good inside and out, everything on the vessel screams quality and value. Thanks 😊 God bless America 🇺🇸
If I were you, I would seriously consider hiring the people from the Sailing Uma youtube channel once they get back round the world. What they did to transform their old, broken, very broken Pearson 36 is astonishing. The boat is so beautiful and modern. It is gorgeous. And they solved a few liveaboard problems that no one else has. Interior is absolutely beautiful and completely transformed useable and comfortable. BTW. Your boats are beautiful. I'm watching this to figure out why so expensive. I understand. Very high quality. added...and made in America.
Well, we just visited the factory to make the video. We have no stake or pull there. The owners are our friends and they are doing impressive work, for sure. I’ll check out the RU-vid channel.
I own 2002 Island packet craft express 36 she’s beautiful boat high quality its built like a rock solid glass nothing better well thought out love the boat it was the first one made they named it flying star. The boat looks brand new to this day beautiful gelcoat
Nice piece of story telling. We've had the pleasure of sailing with Darrell and Leslie on that magnificent 485. Thanks again for the tour. Keep up the great work!
Thanks Kristopher! We appreciate the compliment. Yes, the Island Packet 485 is a beautiful yacht. Darrell and Leslie are always a pleasure to work with and they are doing so well bringing Island Packet Yachts (and Seaward & Blue Jacket) back to it's glory.
amazing quality, that's why used icy are used from decades before with very little failures..engineswear out, chains etc.......dependable and great layout!
What a great video you two! I have been a boater all of my life primarily power. However I raced for awhile on sailboats and crewed and loved it. I have also cruised on the Great Lakes in an Island packet. The quality and feel of an Island packet is like nothing I have experienced. Everything is finished perfectly. The level of detail and quality of every component is strong and heavy duty heavy-duty and what's really great is its American made by American Craftsman. My passion for this product is so strong I would have no problem being a rep for Island packet to all the retail dealers with passion and commitment. Almost every single employee said working there was like being family. How often do you hear that anymore? Again, great video thank you. Stephen Naples Florida
Hey Stephen, so glad that you liked the video. Yes, everybody at that factory loves their job. Most have been there 20+ years. Great product and great Yacht. We felt super secure crossing the Pacific Ocean twice. 20 foot seas and up to 50 kn of wind and the boat handled beautifully.
For sure my next boat will be an IP. Specially after seeing this. So many people working there for such a long time. That gives me a good feeling about this. More than for example Jeanneau. Thanks!
Patrick van Wijland honestly, they are the best and safest boats. They saved our bacon in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! You are very smart for looking at these boats. Please connect if you want to chat about IPs. I was literally not a boat person or even a water person and after our experience with our 37 IP I would not trade it for anything!!! Thanks so much for your comments. Melissa
@@TheAdventureTravelers i was wondering about buying a IP for use as a coastal cruiser because of the craftsmanship. But now if the seaward is built by the same team it seems that is a better fit.
@@TheAdventureTravelers their site redirects back to the IP site. So it looks like they are discontinued. Any thoughts on using an IP for ICW and no more than a couple of miles offshore? I live in SFL so the keys and Biscayne bay are my sailing grounds.
I know they were making them when we were at the factory and made the video, however, I'm not sure about their current production. You can always call the factory and find out.
Sean, you’d have to ask them that. I do know that they use an elaborate system of fiberglass to adhere the chain plates to the side of the hull. Super strong. They can tell you more.
Island Packet Yachts now offers three different interior woods: Sapele, Cherry and Teak. New owners can now customize their yachts in a variety of configurations and choose from numerous Corian colors for their galley.
I think the problem with fiberglass fuel tanks was exposed when alcohol was being added to fuel (E10, ethonal, etc.) and tanks started delaminating. This is not a IP thing, but a boat thing in general.
I have no idea. You would have to contact the manufacturer. I know they do make nice sailboats there as well, however I don't know the answer to your question.
Coosa board is okay as a boat building material, but not fantastic, and it costs more than 4 times more than standard high-quality marine ply (which, if sealed properly, will never see moisture anyway). Those higher material costs are typically multiplied x3 and passed on to the customer as a business expense, meaning the cost of the boat just exceeded its worth. The only time marine ply will rot or fail (keeping in mind it's constructed using with waterproof adhesives) is if the builder goes cheap and uses a polyester resin instead of epoxy and the gelcoat fails. This happens a lot, but people keep buying boats that are made that way. Go figure.
I’d have to agree with Mitchell. Once you cut into plywood, unless you properly seal it again, your chances of getting wood rot the way up. I’m sure that they get a discount on the Coosa board due to volume
I'm sure they are backlogged now with orders. You should call them. I'm sure if you want a special order yacht, it would be about a year, also depending upon what size. The bigger, the longer. You have to wait for quality.
Nobody builds a better boat than Bob Johnson. Nobody. I've been looking for The IP for me for 3 yrs. My wallet keeps increasing but so do the prices of the used IP's. :(
Kevin, yeah they are a little on the pricey side but I paid the extra for the security and peace of mind. We were in 20' seas and I didn't bat an eye. Some creaking and groaning but solid as a rock. Keep looking, there are some deals out there! Happy sailing!
