The Dallas Mavericks were directly involved in freeing a man from a 44 year prison sentence. One of their players confessed to Mark Cuban that his father should be out after rehabilitating himself but the way they did it is unbelievable.
@@pht9317 basing from the story alone, wasn't the Smith's friend actually the one that pulled the trigger? Technically he did not actually kill someone but was an accessory to the murder. Now that still deserves sentencing but why is his so much longer than the one who actually pulled the trigger? Lastly, surely the influence was a key factor to helping the convict out of prison but the deciding factor was still how the son presented himself. That's still a great feat nonetheless.
@@jeus_saaa no it wasn’t, you made that up. All documentation stats Elbert Smith Jr was responsible for the murder which he himself admits to and there is no question of guilt or innocence. Again you proved my point about how elitist influences set a cold blooded murderer free. His son story has nothing to do with the fact a murderer got set free while the victims family still grieve. Go read the court documents on the case, he’s shouldn’t see the light of day again.
It is, but it is equally surprising when such an obviously made NBA role player like DFS doesn't get drafted because he was considered a late first round pick in some Mocks.
Ima Mavs fan, and I watch every game, and during a postgame interview with Luka where Dorian had a great game as well, Luka told the interviewer that he hopes to have Dorian as a teammate for the rest of his career. Luka has never shout out a teammate like that, that's love and Luka treated Dorian like family. Dorian will forever be a Maverick, I hope he comes back
@@seanyyk___4774No y'all won't. We already rescued Kyrie. There's never been a super team broken up so fast. 😅 No matter how BK treats him, NO TEAM treats their players better than the Mavs so he'll be back. All former Mavs/Cowboys make Dallas their home no matter where they're from. This is Seth Curry's 3rd stint with us as evidence. Oh 😮, what team did he just leave? 😅
Not at all, I have a brother in jail for a murder that would be self-defense in most states not named Colorado after a drunk guy attacked him while he was holding his gun, he shot him once in self-defense and was sentenced to 44 years in prison. Man, what I wouldn't do to be able to pull strings to get him out.
It's a shame you have to amass this much support and power to clear up injustices. I'm so glad they were able to get Dorian's Dad out of prison. My heart goes out to all those people not fortunate enough to have the full might of an NBA team and a billionaire on their side.
Props to you on sharing this sad but triumphant story, and esp for citing the main source. Everyone on RU-vid steals content as their own so it’s very honorable of you to give that reporter his well earned credit!! MFFL 👍🏻
As Mavs fan this was very touching story. DFS was always the most hardworking player from being undrafted to a starting lineup next to Luka and the best defender when he was in Dallas. I'm happy when he got the contract from Dallas and he so much deserved it for sure will be staying in the league for long. This story shows it's more about basketball we hope to see DFS in a Mavs jersey again.
Blame your "freedom" filled country for having the worst justice system and worst press freedom in the modern western world. Your entire govt keeps you under its thumb like sheep, but because you're allowed your guns you all think you're so free despite being the most oppressed and having the least lack of access to justice, healthcare and education compared to the vast majority of Europe. God bless Murica, every day I thank my family for moving to Austria instead of the USA lmao. Third world ass country masquerading as a first world one.
It makes sense he had a kid one year after his friend was killed in front of him. A smart man would have left the streets to spend more time with their girl.
We get so caught up in trading drama and the competitiveness between teams that sometimes we overlook basketball being a way to change certain people’s lives and have amazing opportunities. Thank you for covering player stories and these sides of basketball we normally wouldn’t see. Incredible story and I wish Dorian and his family all the best
I don't know how they let the gunman who actually murdered somebody out before him. At most his father should have been charged as an accomplice. It should not have carried a 44-year sentence. That is absolutely disgusting.
As a lawyer in another jurisdiction who has done comparative law studies, the USA has the worst common law in the entire world. The prevalence of ridiculous plea deals and elaborate grand juries makes your system so complex and open to abuse. Prosecutors also pick and choose when they want to use their discretion to seek charges at many times refusing to do so based on links to their own interests or politics. There is no tripartite separation of powers and therefore no proper rule of law, especially when your rule of law is based on a terrible fundamentally flawed constitution which you idiots will die defending it seems. There is an extortionately high barrier to entry in terms of access to justice as well since legal fees are the highest in the world and legal aid is virtually non-existent for several criminal and civil areas. In essence the US justice system lacks access to justice for all, lacks a fair and transparent system where the judiciary is separate from the organs of government and the systems in place are inherently broken and cannot administer justice fairly.
When you first see the story on random social media you just think, "Of course. The rich & powerful can obviously pull some strings." However after hearing the whole story you really start to question our judicial system (if you haven't already.) How can a man pull the trigger, kill a guy, take a plea to probably incriminate his friend that was riding with him, and then the guy who didnt commit murder get a sentence 6x as severe... You're obviously good at your craft A.M. cause this even pulled on my heart strings.
Keep up these vids man. Genuinely some of the most consistent best videos I watch, like you said specifically in the off-season when most youtubers tend to recycle their same content
UPDATE: Elbert Smith just saw his son play for the first time, about 3 days before the date of this post. It took so long because he wasnt allowed to travel until now
thanks for sharing these types of players stories, the behind the scenes, it's unique and inspirational and that majes you different from other channels
this was an amazing video and amazing article. i never knew he was going through something like this and im glad to hear everything went good at the parole hearing. gonna be rooting for dfs this season !
