Back in the Victorian Era, Englanders thought that the famous Roman Baths were so healing because there was radium in the water. And there was, but that wasn't the real secret. Turns out that the baths are teeming with microbes that could end up doing us and our planet some major good.

Hey it's my town! Fun fact: Bath Abbey, where the first king of all England was crowned, recently installed a geothermal heating system. They tapped into the old Roman infrastructure and siphoned off a supply of hot water for their radiators.

Roman bath complexes usually had water of varying temperatures. The tepidarium was a comfortably heated pool where you would wash yourself with olive oil and use a tool called a strigil to scrape your skin. You'd then move on to the caldarium, which was an uncomfortably hot room, kind of like a sauna or steam room, and lastly you'd take a plunge in the frigidarium which was a cold water pool. From what I can tell Roman baths have more in common with Scandinavian/Slavic sauna culture than they do with Japanese onsen.

My d&d character makes hotsprings everywhere he saves because he has to keep people from remembering him (with an artifact that prevents any identifyable recollection of the character, npcs can rembers that someome was there and they did the thing, but not anything about them personally) so they don't become enthralled so it's like his calling card.
@jackielinde7568
@jackielinde7568 15 часов назад
I don't know. I don't think creating hot springs is going to get the locals to forget you. If anything, it's just another checkbox on the list to being made a saint. "Dude, do you remember the guy who saved us? Yeah, that one. He also made this hot spring, too. Is there anything he can't do?" Keep this up, and the gods might take interest. They hate competition. Just ask this one pillar of orange rock in middle of s desolate wasteland that used to be a home for a society of powerful wizards. I think it's still crying from the time AO personally said "No!"
@ConstantChaos1
@ConstantChaos1 15 часов назад
@jackielinde7568 oh yeah I could have been more clear, my bad, he has an artifact that prevents people remembering him, or more accurately anything about him. You can remember that there was a tiny sized (progenitor) fey creature who rides a sentient giant wolf spider, but beyond that even like the fact that he is wreathed in green flame that smells of wisteria and Japanese mountian lilac or that he predates the gods and so does his patron might fall through the cracks, it's 3.5 so the actual issue is that his charisma stat has gotten so high (34) that if he just mentions he is thirsty it acts as compulsion that can't be resisted by a mortal peasant to make and bring the finest liquor they can (you can't roll high-enough to pass without a minimum of a +3 to surpass his beauty) so being able to refrence back and say the mysterious healing hotsprings show where he's been is useful. Since both my character and his patron are fey we get along with the elvish pantheon and the order of servitude he heads up are brutally efficient metamagic warlocks who refuse to let peaceful lives be interrupted. It's a long story, there is a 3.5 fey creature born from the slaughter of other fey creatures, it's a powerful tripple aspect spirit so she became his patron once his people were attacked and they rebuilt. She now runs a city of endless life in the fey wild, where theose who follow the tenants get to make a stop off on the way to the afterlife, a bit like a non-elven arvandor.
