As you touched on, taxes are the main motivation for which Au bullion to stack. e.g. in UK the sovereigns are tax-advantaged, but in Australia the Au bullion must be .9995 to prevent GST, so any non-24k bullion (Sovereigns, Kruggerand, AGEs) does not make sense. In the US, it may depend which state you are in.

Hey Numi! Another solid video thank you so much! I see in your vid that you have many loose coins (not slabbed). I really do prefer loose over slabbed but I just got my grading results back from PCGS and three of the eleven coins I submitted were cleaned or damaged. I guess its just the price of collecting loose coins. Take care and thank you so much for all of the awesome content!

Thank you for your comment Sherab. I too am concerned especially given the recent rumors about continued debasement of scissors alloys coming out of China right now. I wonder if the author of the video has heard anything about this. But please for the love of the Queen would you get yourself a decent pair of cupronickel scissori before you give us fellow stackers a ❤️-attack.

Being a collector, gold is gold. My purchases are most definitely effected by my budget. Sometimes depending on bills, I end up with a little 1/4 Sovereign, or perhaps even a 1/2 Sovereign. Its been a while since I’ve purchased a full Sovereign because they’ve gone up quite a bit.

Perhaps bullion collectors don't care about the quality of the coin. If you buy at big companies they have little to choose from because of the random years. Don't you think buyers should have the opportunity to choose their coins? Always enjoy your video, it's informative & very well presentation. Thanks Numi. By the way believe you need a new pair of scissors.

As a new buyer to golf sovereigns. Traditionally I’m a silver stacker and expanding my purchased. Is there a ‘good’ type of sovereign to buy first? And maybe start a semi collection if you will. I’ve seen king George, Edward young queen Elizabeth etc. seems like there’s 10 in the .24 oz class. I’m just a simple buyer.

Mike Dennington they are proof so almost all the coin produced still in collector hands. For a circulation strike, the number of choice ms can be extremely low, even whit a high mintage coin.
@Numistacker
@Numistacker 6 лет назад
That’s very true but there may be other factors like how many whole sets and how many were messed with or went into circulation in an emergency. The 1839 coins have same mintage but are 5 x the price so there is lots of potential for the 1887 too.

@Thermopylae2007 Год назад
I would suggest starting with your local coin shops or gold dealers. The online dealers have been hit or miss for inventory in the last year or two but sometimes have them. In Canada you pay HST but since they are not .999 gold I believe that they are capital gains exempt. They should cost less than 1/4 ounce gold Maple Leafs as they have slightly less gold and lower premiums for standard pieces.

There is one particular large seller of graded Sovereigns on eBay that is so overpriced I am shocked they can sell and survive. There are some good deals on eBay as you mention, but unfortunately often the photos are just so poor it’s hard to really tell the condition of the coin... And unfortunately that goes for all coins not just Sovereigns. Some of these sellers would do themselves big favors by investing in better cameras or trying harder, because it looks to many of us like they’re just trying to conceal details by putting up such blurry photos. I have noticed that many of these larger reputable Sovereign eBay sellers have their own websites with lower prices than the eBay prices because they pass the eBay seller fees on to the consumer. Lose the eBay buyer protection, but if it is a reputable seller I’m not as concerned, and some even allow for credit card purchases so use a good credit card and you can dispute in the very unlikely event you don’t get a delivery. Unrelated, it have you received an invoice for your BSJ purchase yesterday? I have not yet. Do they just take a little longer than Heritage?
@Numistacker
@Numistacker 6 лет назад
Not yet it takes a couple of days. as for eBay, I always make an assumption that if somebody has blurry photographs they are trying to hide something. Particularly ones that are taken from some distance when every single mobile phone can take good photos of coins these days.
@Joe-ob6fc
@Joe-ob6fc 6 лет назад
Crown Collector I agree. The only photos I trust are the ones taken by well established auction houses. I’ve bought some US coins at local shops, though I’ve enjoyed buying from stores in other states that also have their inventory online and lower prices. I haven’t taken a risk with a questionable eBay coin, though they do have buyer protection and some sellers have 30 day no question return policies, so the risk is there but isn’t as great as it seems. Nothing near wiring money to.a stranger. I wouldn’t do it regardless if the seller were out of the states, as the cost to ship back and the exchange rate fees and losses would be another consideration.
@Joe-ob6fc
@Joe-ob6fc 6 лет назад
Crown Collector no I read it. I agree in part. It is 2018, and lots of good sellers that have actual brick and mortar stores have an online presence or are on a selling network like Collectors Corner here in the states. I’d assume that many are selling a lot more online than they do in their physical stores nowadays. I also haven’t been screwed buying from a distance yet. Of course I much prefer auctions to anything else. I like researching the lots for weeks prior and picking out favorites and enjoy the excitement of bidding.
