How (and Why) America Is Removing Its Largest Dams
Dams are some of the most impressive feats of engineering in the world. In the US alone, there are over 90,000 dams generating electricity, controlling floods, and supplying water to nearby communities.
Take the four dams along the Klamath River, which stretches across the Oregon-California border. However, there's a significant problem. These dams are not great for the river's fish and water quality.
After more than a decade of debates about costs, ecology, and the impact on salmon, officials have decided on a drastic solution: demolishing all four dams. This decision marks a pivotal moment in addressing the environmental issues caused by these structures. The goal is to restore the river's natural flow, improve water quality, and support the return of salmon and other aquatic life to the Klamath River.

As far back as I can remember I have seen pushes to un-dam the Klamath.

These are not America's largest dams. They are very small NorCal and Oregon dams. This title is completely wrong.

What a topic, i'm a bit sad that the US isn't expanding their nuclear powerplants and that they dissolve renewable energy sources...

Based on the info from the video and no other knowledge of the project and history of the four dams, I suspect its less about dissolving the renewable energy source and more about balancing the pros-cons. The declining Salmon population and the Blue-Green Algae being firmly on the con side. The under-performing energy output barely making the pro side. I agree entirely on with you on the nuclear power plants! I like these types of videos, short and with enough info to help me decide if I'm interested in pursuing the topic.

I think we are entering a whole new era of free energy, harvesting energy from the atmosphere. Maybe Elon could explain that better than I can, I just know the old methods including Nuclear is going to be old hat...

So, Pacific Corporation the owners of the dams in this video. Had to update these structures to meet EPA standards. That would have required Millions of dollars of shareholders money. So, it was in their best interest to remove them with grants totaling 430 million dollars of taxpayer supplied money. Sounds all "Green" and warm and fuzzy. Too bad the overwhelming amount of sediment that had been building up since the dams were built, was released too fast and suffocated the fish the say they were trying to save. Now Foster Lake is a brown mucky mess. Hopefully in five or ten years it will be Beautiful again.

There have been some very bad outcomes lately with dam removal. Usually story that has a predicted outcome of rainbows and unicorns. But then after the gact the reality hits.
