There are many components to giving up drinking including eg motivation and help from family. One resource I found that successfully combines these is the Sebs Magic Tactic (see the website SebsMagicTactic.com) definately the most incredible idea that I've seen. Check out the site and incredible testimonials.

Giving up smoking is the single best thing you can do for your health - and your pocketbook. I kicked the habit 36 years ago. It was tough but failure was not an option. The withdrawal symptoms were pretty bad for about a week and I couldn't sleep at night, but after that it was smooth sailing. I'm still an addict and I know that one cigarette would be enough to get me started all over again but it's not something I have to worry about because I find cigarette smoke pretty disgusting now.

I was meant to watch your video today. I’ve been smoking for 39 years on and off (mostly on!). I’m 57 now. I’m facing spine surgery (fusion) in 3 weeks and smoking severely will greatly endanger a proper fusion. I was very inspired by you and your story, because you were a smoker and KNOW how difficult it is to quit. By this weekend I will do the same and stop cigarettes but weaning myself off nicotine with all the options you presented. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and being so real! Wish me luck!

I agree. Great video. I smoked for 50 years and I'm blessed because I'm in good heath. For the last 10 years I battled to get off the cigs. I started using the niocrette spray and I gave up 24th Sept 2021. I am still addicted to the spray. I gave up the cigs but not the spray. Anybody have any suggestions?
@anti-ethniccleansing465
@anti-ethniccleansing465 Год назад
@@martinadoherdoherty6073 First of all, congrats for making it this far! Our friend in this video here mentioned a drug where it blocks the nicotine receptors in your brain. He said that it didn’t work for him, but I found it to be absolutely amazing and is what helped me quit on both successful attempts… The original the name of it is Chantix, but in certain countries it is labeled as Champix. They also made generic versions of it. The medicine works by not only blocking the nicotine receptors in your brain, but also block the dopamine reward system from giving you gratification when you get take in any nicotine. It also will usually cause nausea from nicotine too. All these things add up to you reducing your nicotine habit to the point that you just don’t crave it anymore. You don’t even need to set a quit date with it (which I find to be too stressful in and of itself!), because you will just wake up one day within a month’s time and not feel like doing it anymore. It’s a miracle how that medicine works, tbh. You will still be tempted every once in a while with a craving of course, just because it has become a coping mechanism when stressed out, and ingrained behavior associated with routines etc, but when the nicotine isn’t in your system anymore after 2-3 days (and barely was the day you quit), it is just a temporary mind over matter moment that will pass in a few minutes time.

Thanks Doug . I am a pretty heavy smoker myself. I have smoked since I was 15 years old and I am 45 now. 3/4 of my life. I have quit in the past and stayed quit for up to two years or so. I felt really good when I would quit. There would always be something silly. That made me start back. Like drinking. Every time I would drink I would crave cigarettes so bad that I would cave and start back. I haven’t been a heavy drinker in a good eight years, but now I am so hooked on cigarettes from being on them for so long that it’s just so much harder to put down. I feel like cigarettes are that one final addiction that I have been too stubborn to let go of. But reminding me that nicotine is a drug and I can get that drug through other avenues is inspiring. I’ve always use the packaging when I quit. But maybe I will add a vape or inhaler that. I plan to try soon because I’m tired of feeling like crap. Thank you for the inspiration.

Off the cigs a week now, I'm nearly 50. My main motivation is my children, but also the most precious thing most of us have is our breath. Lucky enough where I live the air a relatively pure and clean and I'd pick that over a cigarette any day. Everybody's case is different, so good luck to all... 😊

This is a fascinating video and a very valuable, personal insight. Thank you for opening up and putting yourself out there, and it's not only inspiring that you were ABLE to quit but also that you had the gumption to go through the trouble. That's something that people overlook, I think; there's the major accomplishment and major life-change that everybody sees, but there's also the minute-to-minute and daily troubles of seeing people, dealing with prescriptions, and generally taking care of yourself, and that shit ain't easy to go out and do. Your content has been an inspiration to me for years, so I'd be sorry to see your music and videos get stopped-up due to health issues: my personal and selfish thank-you for taking care of yourself where you can!

Smoking is an addiction.Anyone who understands addiction knows that you need to replace the addiction with something in it's place to be successful. I also vape, because I understand I am addicted to nicotine. I just switched the way I got my drug. I went from 18mg, and slowly lowered it until now I am at 3mg of nicotine. The biggest hurdle is the habit of when you smoke. Thank you for your video.

Maggie Smith untrue, my mum smoked for 30 years, a huge smoker, she just one day decided to quit cold turkey, didn’t replace it with a thing, she doesn’t do any drug or anything like that, she’s always been straight edged seperate from the nicotine, it’s been 16 years and she can’t even stand the smell of smokes. There are millions more just like my mum, you do not need to replace it with anything, at all!

@@TheSoundTestRoom Mate, I know why you were able to quit on the day you quit. Because October 8 is a _VERY_ special day, as that is my birthday. 😁🥳😂 Also, your wife has my nickname (Jo being short for my full name). Haha. On a serious note, I hope you are still keeping up the success! I am on my second big attempt atm… I just made it through my first week. I’m sure you are well aware of this, but the fact is that we really can _NEVER_ have “just one” ever again. Thinking I could do that after 2 years is what caused me to relapse after being two years smoke-free on my first big attempt. I smoked about half as much as you did every day for 25 years, whilst having been a chronic asthmatic since the age of seven to boot (I even almost died from asthma one time a few years ago, and it is a bloody miracle that I survived). My lungs are screaming at me - this _HAS_ to be the end of this dumb habit! P.S. I just got to the part of your video where you said that you vape, and admitted that the jury is still out on the health effects of vaping. I will tell you two things about that… First of all, my ex quit cigarettes with vaping nicotine (although I think you said that you vape without nicotine), and he is vaping _CONSTANTLY_ every day… _WAY_ more than he ever smoked cigs. Every time I would come over, his entire place was filled with the fog from it, and every surface in his place became sticky and covered with a film of shmutz from it. Secondly, I don’t know why, but when I tried to quit in the past by following his vaping footsteps, it actually gave me *MORE* asthma than my cigarettes did! And his vaping would also give me asthma from second hand inhalation. When I was smoke-free for those two years, I hardly ever got asthma. Who actually knows if valing really is better than cigarettes like folks hope - vapers are essentially guinea pigs right now, and it is going to be awhile until we know what the long term effects are, if any (also, I shouldn’t have to remind you that the boomer generation was actually told that cigarettes were healthy for them, even by doctors). I would not be surprised at all if something similar is going on where people are being told that vaping is healthier than cigarettes, when in actuality it isn’t by much in the long term, if it all.

I'm 45. I was diagnosed with Type1 diabetes at age 22. From the age of 15 I had smoked...not even a diabetes diagnoses put me off. In fact, my attitude was - "I've got years until diabetes & smoking catches up with me" never actually thinking it would catch up so quick. But for the past couple years I have been feeling more & more breathless & tired day by day. I've lost 3 teeth in that time too which is without a doubt a mixture of poor diabetes control & smoking. So last week I just thought - "Enough is enough" and decided now was the time to finally knock that filthy habit on the head once & for all before something serious happens to me. Cold turkey is the only way...just as long as I avoid alcohol for a few weeks, lol.

Well done for quitting man, I would quit for health reasons but love smoking and being a smoker too much. All my family smoke, my partner smokes 40-60 a day too and he will never quit. I like how as couple both always spark up together, I like how it looks and the smell in our home, car and on our clothes and breath too. If I am with someone that sparks up or smell it I crave so bad I always spark up. Accepted that will die younger but cant imagine not being a smoker.

I'm a mental health nurse who did smoke, quite a lot. I got off the rolls with vapes. Our service has just become totally smoke free, now I work on a ward that's locked and 16 out of 18 of the guys smoke, it's been a nightmare, those that have no leave now try anything to get a smoke.. It's like a prison now.. We push all the NRT stuff and it's not worked for much of our lads... I'm rambling... But this vid really is so relevant right now, especially with the "is it the smoking that worsened this?'! Great vid.. If I can show this in a NHS establishment please let me know. I do watch your vids because I'm a fellow tech musician and run therapeutic music groups in R and R :)

I'm to the point in my addiction where there isn't enough time in the day to smoke as much as I want to. I can smoke 3 in a row and still want another, it's becoming pointless. I hope I can just fully realize it and quit already. I've been talking about quitting since I started again 4 years ago.

I did exactly the same as you, I DECIDED to do it for real, and started taking the patches and lozenges because I wanted to, rather than using them because I felt forced to do it. I also use a vape with 0% nicotine, which gives me the hand to mouth habit, and getting a throat hit....

Stop eating junk food, cut back on the salt and don't eat meat very often. Once you do that start exercising, walking in the beginning for 30 minutes a day and then hit the gym!!! And stop vaping too!!!

@@whufcjay73 The reason Allan Carr is an inspiration for quitting is because of how many cigarettes he used to smoke. The dude was a serious chain smoker so it makes sense that it eventually caught up to him. If anything it makes his book more powerful because his death shows smokers that if you wait as long as Allan or Doug here the health consequences will be permanent.

We're proud of you too. Keep up the good work. Careful with Cocodamol though. Codeine is an opiate and as such potentially addictive.

Some similarities with myself. I am on the 7th day of my cold turkey quit from an approx. 25-30/day habit. I am 56. Worst of the withdrawals is over. I did have pneumonia with an infected lung that is why I decided to quit in the first place. Beginning to feel a lot better now. Coincidentally my 87 year old mother has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. As her full-time carer I am now getting to grips with that - injections twice a day, blood testing, diet etc.

Yes it is a strong physical and mental addiction. Worst of Physical withdrawal last 3-4 days, then it lessens greatly then gone. but mental is harder. That’s the part you need a plan. When your brain says have a cig, drink water or sip candy or find out what’s really bothering you at the moment. Identify triggers like being around people who smoke or stress and avoid, counter act and be prepared. Maybe you can’t go out with those friends for a while. Maybe start another habit something to do with your hands - make jewelry or knitting or whatever you want to learn. I went to the dollar movies a lot the first couple weeks. For me I had no problem sitting through movies without a thought of a cig. I could focus on the movie. Point is different things work for different people. Now that my health is compromised (turning 60 this year) what I want vs what I need are the deciding factors. Hope you try again and again and are eventually successful if quitting is what you want or need to do.

I quit cold turkey which I found easy... amazing after over 30 years, and like you I do the vaping if and when I feel the urge (after meals)... but without nicotine!!! Which I think is the same as you... but I don't think you explained that enough on your video (without nicotine)... otherwise thanks no much for sharing... yes my coughing has stopped to, along with really bad catarrh!!! The best of health to you :-)

Did you have autoimmune before you took the stop smoking drug? I didn't but within a fortnight of taking it I had an autoimmune reaction that is still with me today, this was 16 years ago. Taking Zyban was the worst decision I ever made. (See the patient information leaflet - new and updated after the trial none of us knew we were on).

As for your teeth, allot of that probably was the cigarettes mate. My teeth are bad although I used to drink allot of sweet coffee and I know that had a huge effect. Smoking put a hole in my upper palette. My dentist was amused when he found it and was always telling me to try and quit smoking. It's not noticeable as it's right in the back of my mouth and it took him over a year before he found it but it's there. I only notice it when I sleep sometimes. Sometimes, when my head is tilted up and due to gravity, a tiny bit of mucus will fall from my nose through the hole into my mouth. It's only a tiny bit so I don't end up spitting but it's not a nice feeling. It's like prepping to spit but it's involuntarily. Smoking has allot of effects on your health in general. Other factors come into play such as diet/lifestyle but smoking certainly adds to it.

I had a bad emotional shock once. My reaction was to start smoking as a crutch. I smoked 20 a day. A few months later I developed gum disease. I didn't stop smoking but I did reduce them. I had several visits to the dental hygienist. After much treatment cleaning the gum disease receded. It didn't come back.

Congratulations for quitting smoking. I'm currently trying to quit vaping with nicotine and switch to nicotine free vaping. I feel like your advice of using nicotine replacement therapy for quitting smoking could work for switching to nicotine free vaping. I bought some 4mg Amazon brand nicotine gum which is going to arrive today and I'm going to try to use that whenever I feel like I need a nicotine vape. This is the only quitting video I've seen that doesn't tell people that they have to use the cold turkey method which for me doesn't work. Great job for quitting smoking and excellent video.

Thank you for sharing your story sir. I hope that you keep getting better. Although you have used vaping as a substitute it does have minor side effects. I heard that the vaping can leave an oily substance in your lungs. I understand that smoking is very harmful to your health as I had lost my paternal grandparents to lung cancer because they were both smokers.
