Hi there everyone! I hope you enjoy this video. I decided to make it after finding that there wasn't much out there to help my students with installing and learning to use 10ten Japanese Reader. Apologies for the poor video quality at the very start - it gets better! Don't forget you can skip to the bits that interest you using the timestamps. Elly

Hi! Developer of 10ten Japanese Reader here. That was a very very good video. You summarised 10ten's features and how to use it very well. Thank you so much! We have a lot of big features coming out next year so I hope it will be even more helpful to all of us using and learning Japanese! (Regarding the WaniKani setting, there are actually two settings: one for showing WaniKani levels next to vocab/words and a separate setting for showing WaniKani levels next to kanji. That's why the level didn't show up in the kanji tab.)

Hi there! Thanks so much to you too - I got 10ten Japanese Reader (back when it was Rikaichan) when I first started learning Japanese over 10yrs ago and haven't looked back since! I'm excited to see what new features are coming up :) Thanks for the note on WaniKani. I can see exactly where you mean in the settings now. A lot of my students use WaniKani so I'll definitely be activating that bit of info!

@@schizofren_ia Not to worry - I've been using 10ten Reader for about 10yrs now so am always curious to hear what else is out there. I did actually try using Yomichan yesterday and while I liked having the option to read out audio and have it switched to not automatically active, I think having to install dictionaries would be a major barrier for a lot of the people I teach unless they had someone to help them set it up. I can also totally see the benefit of being able to integrate with Anki, though then again a lot of my students don't like Anki. Basically I get the sense that Yomichan is geared towards a slightly different audience (more tech savvy & keen to customise their learning tools) than 10ten Japanese Reader, which is more of a plug-in-and-go type extension. It's good to know both options are available.

nice! I do agree with that ten10 is definitely much more simple to set up @@ippoippojapanese

There's many things that make 10ten potentially better than Yomitan: displays faster when you hover, is immediate, while in yomitan I've notice it's a bit slower. Also you can set it to display the words translations in other languages than english. And also is more seamless and simplified, Yomitan is a bit cluttered with the dictionaries tags, even if you only have a couple installed. In fact, the only reason for using Yomitan instead of 10ten is because the Anki integration, which 10ten has not. But if you don't use Anki, I would choose 10ten before Yomitan every day of the week.
