@@austinhernandez2716Yes, you're both right. You can't get around without a car. A car means freedom. A car is your ticket to doing what you want, when you want it. And, unless you live directly in the middle of a small town or big city, you're not going to be able to walk to obtain all your creature-comforts needs. Therefore, one NEEDS a car....so, ome must BUY a car, if they do not have it, or if their current one isn't working, and the stealerships KNOW you, the consumer, have no choice but to buy and pay what they're asking. It's a shame. If only there was less regulation on the marketplace, competition could thrive and prices would decrease. 100,000 units at $20K is more profitable than 50,000 units at $35K.

But that's not true at all. It's because you can't buy directly from manufacturers. It's a middle man that Jack's up the prices. Also not everyone is willing to drive. But let's be real, in America that's your only option. No one is going to walk 2 hours for a handful of groceries along a 5 lanes freeway with no safe sidewalk or crosswalk. Cities are only designed for cars, everything else is almost entirely neglected. Because that's freedom, apparently.

@joeyy2207
@joeyy2207 Год назад
@@austinhernandez2716 Do you think manufacturers would not adjust prices to fit market conditions as well? The difference is that the manufacturers are more likely to have consistent pricing across the board, rather than the current situation where you can shop around. For non-car purchases, I often check the manufacturer's website to see what prices they post to compare with retailers. In those cases, the MSRP is basically the max price the item could normally sell for, and that is what the manufacturer often posts, while retailers sell it for that (but with free shipping or some other benefit), or even a discount. Then, as the item gets older, and especially if a new model is introduced, the retailer will continue to mark the item down, while the manufacturer keeps it at MSRP. I believe car manufacturers being able to sell cars directly would be a good thing, but I do not think it would be a panacea for car prices. It would help stabilize them, but once inventory recovers and dealerships have cars on the lot again, there will be plenty of people who want to walk into the dealership, look at the options, test drive a few, then drive out with their new car.

Manufacturers spend millions researching the development of a car. When dealerships pull this shit, it fudges the sales numbers potentially causing a car company to discontinue a car due to poor sales. The Ford focus RS is a perfect example. And the dealerships in Atlanta were trying to charge about $6,000 over MSRP. I ended up paying under dealer invoice, splitting the hold back and the spiff. It takes patience, and the willingness to walk away. It takes a few $20 bribes to find out when dealerships last day of the month is. And it takes a little ruthless cleverness. But any dealership that wouldn't budge, I'd simply walk away from. Don't give them extra money

The way to find the market price is to start with a high markup then lower it slowly until it sells. Anything else and you're leaving money on the table, that makes no sense. And so I was positively surprised that the price did not exceed 100k USD since this beast goes 0-60 in under 4 seconds and has 700+hp, and it can jump over dunes untouched! Dealerships selling for insane mark-up only works if people are buying them at the insane price. The mark-ups only started happening in the first place because people were desperate to buy stuff, be it EVs, or fuel efficient stuff, or trendy new models. If people don’t pay the mark-ups, prices will come back down. As an owner of an Ioniq5, the $0 markup on the Ioniq5 is not an accurate representation. When I was buying, they were routinely selling for $20k over MSRP and selling before they even arrived at the dealership. I had to drive from Oregon to New Mexico to get one with no mark-up on it.

In Alaska they tack on an extra $2000 for “Alaska Fees” then add on an extra $1000 for “distance shipping,” and then a couple grand in dealership fees… Wanna know the craziest part? THIS INCLUDES USED CARS TURNED INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DIDNT HAVE TO SHIP IT OR DO ANYTHING. It’s so crazy here. I saw a Honda Accord, just the cheapest build, selling for $56,000 before fees here… o.o It is literally cheaper for me to fly to Seattle, get the newest vehicle, drive it up, and add a body kit than it is to buy used in Alaska.. It also looks like anything that is affordable and would be used for DoorDash is heavily marked up right now. Edit: I have tried to talk dealerships to closer to MSRP but the times I have have just been told that the car already has people waiting to buy it at this price, so if I am not gonna buy it they can already sell it. I finally got money to buy a car, but I’ll just wait a couple years for this years model to be worth half as much, I guess.

Like - even the car dealership will GIVE you that catalogue so you can check out what extras can you buy for how much. Our dealerships make money from different sources (i.e. loans on the car - most people have to "rent" the car until it is paid off, insurance, etc.) But if you have the money on hand, you are walking away with your car for the catalogue price...
