The dress in the video that she says was conserved by her colleague belongs to Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill who’s family own Blenheim Palace. They spent 600 hours conserving the dress and it was in such rough shape because it spent several years on display and the UV light had significantly damaged the dress but it looks FLAWLESS now.

@@thisnthat7760 perhaps you should educate yourself about silk. It most definitely DOES break down.. The deterioration of silk causes embrittlement of the textile leading to splits and tears, and eventually a powdery and very friable fabric

My family had a benarasi silk saree which was 92 years old, it belonged to my great grandmother who was wedded to a zamindar, my maternal great grandfather. The saree had pure silver "Zari" and was in top notch condition until the deadliest 1934 earthquake in India, where it had a little tear at the bottom of the saree. My mother had seen the saree and it was later burnt to get the silver embroidery. The weight of silver was 1/2 kg and every granddaughter (including my mother) had a silver necklace made out of it and got it as a family heirloom.

My mums wedding dress is 100% pure Australian merino wool & is nearly 55yrs old & it is in 100% perfect condition. To top it off my mum is 80 yrs old & can slip straight into it & zip it straight up actually its a bit loose. The only thing missing is the vale she lent it to someone 12 months after she married & never got it back. Someone once told mum she thought she had cut it up & used it for making other outfits &

@@diyasalam3742 i still believe that the majority of people deserve sympathy and kindness, even thieves- often thieves are deserving of the most kindness, depending on why they steal. as for a wedding veil.. well, we dont know why she didnt get it back, but i think its safe to say the borrower did a scummy thing. that doesnt mean theyre undeserving of sympathy and kindness forever

Doesn't mean I'm going to give them objects that are very sentimental, but I'll still be kind :P

" In the best of the English tradition of profanning the sacral: a la King's (Charles II & Duke of York's) Theatre Company's use of the sovereign's coronation robes for the stage. The Lord viceroy's use, during the Raj, of the London theatre companies 'royal robes' back in the day, brought this tradition full circle.

It’s a beautiful dress! Why not keep it permanently in a climate controlled case 24/7? Surely that would be better than storing it in a box and bringing it out every decade or so. You would think the less handling, the better. I’m clueless about fabrics and storage and all that but I love learning about the clothing itself…who wore it and when and all that good stuff 🥰
