Diego Beerserker nope. Having A gold medal in Football and Basketball both at the same time is like being the Apex Athlete Nation in the World of Team Sport. You must he an American to not care anout Football..
@@jimrelltv5649 not really true, the basketball gold medal is worth much more because teams are made with professional player of any age while in football there is the under 23 only age restriction.
Alessio f I know.. It’s olympic rules so we cant argue with that.. but Basketball and Football are like the 2 most famous team sports in the world and Olympic is the most famous sports event.. Having both gold medals 🏅 shows total dominance in the world of Team Sports and future as well with Olympic Football..
Ginobili only NBA player that won an NBA Championship, Euroleague championship and Olympic championship. Sure first ballot Naismith and FIBA hall of famer and definitely will get a statue in Argentina. Although not the best NBA player, this guy made a huge impact in the world b-ball scene
I'm brazilian and I enthusiastically cheered for Argentina, magnificent match against USA. Ginobili, Scola & Co. were brilliant, eternally golden generation.
Unthinkable, at some point of the history of basketball. And seeing the USA basketball team right now, it's going to be very difficult for other national teams to win an olympic gold medal. But nothing is impossible. I'm so proud of that team! LA GENERACIÓN DORADA!!
MAAAAANUUUU GINOOOOOBILI! HE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE GREAT BENCH PLAYER AND DRAFT STEAL OF ALL TIME!!! The dude averaged 26-30 minutes per game while scoring about 14-17PPG for most of his career. In fact he averaged almost 20ppg in 2007-08 when he averaged 31 minutes per game and he also averaged 20.8ppg in the 2005 playoff which actually resulted in a 3rd championship for SAS which is highly impressive and the fact that he had 2 scoring options in his team (Tim Duncan and Tony Parker) is even more impressive since he had to share the ball a lot more. Oh and he’s one of the clutchest players I’ve seen in my entire life. His playmaking ability is absolutely amazing as well. The stats may not show that he’s much of a playermaker but there’s so many footage of him making an incredible no look passes and passes like that. Manu is one of the only 2 players to win a championship in NBA, Euroleague and olympics (Bill Bradley also made that same achievement but he played for the US so I guess that isn’t as impressive) Manu is the GOAT of the bench. Honestly even though timmy is the goat of SA and the GOAT of PFs, Manu ginobili has been more fun to watch. Manu ginobili will definitely be a hall of famer.
@@moviebrain2008 There's a video from WC 2010 held in Turkey, it was Scola saying when he actualy decided to be a basketball player. Apparently, he was a mop boy during 1990 WC, and he was mesmerised by Yugoslavian team and Kukoč, Divac, Dražen Petrović. So, You're welcome, fellow Argentinians 😊
Its true that some All stars were missing but: PPG in NBA 2003-2004 season: Iverson 27.6 Duncan 22.3 Anthony 21.0 James 20.9 Stoudemire 20.6 Marbury 19.8 Marion 19.0 Jefferson 18.5 Odom 17.1 Wade 16.2 Boozer 15.5 (11.4 RPG) Okafor (not in Nba at the time, 15.1 season 2004-2005)
Si bien no estaban Kobe, Shaq y Garnett. Estaban: Iverson, Marbury, Duncan, LeBron, Carmelo, Wade, Odom, Marion y Amare Stoudemire 😧😧😧😧
It's amazing that a guy of his talent and stature took a backseat to help turn the Spurs into one of the best sports dynasties. This man had the talent, drive, and leadership skills to be the #1 option on many teams, but he took a 6th man role and continued to be a great leader for the Spurs. His team first demeanor is what helped cultivate a culture of winning in San Antonio. While it was embarrassing to see the US win bronze that year, and it was disappointing to see Timmy not win Gold on that '04 squad, just about the only thing missing from his illustrious career, it was great to see team basketball triumph over sheer talent. This Gold metal was the greatest accomplishment that Manu and the Argentinian National Team pulled off, and you can tell how close these guys were to each other, and how much this Gold metal meant to this whole team. Say what you want, about Manu getting into the NBA at such a late age, not putting up gaudy stats, but Manu deserves to be a first ballot HoFer. I don't think the Spurs would have won as many championships without him, and they wouldn't continue to be successful after his retirement, despite the last few years being the most difficult years for the Spurs, without him cultivating this team-first attitude. As much as Timmy meant to the Spurs, and as much as he accomplished, what Manu did is why he ranks just a little above Timmy as my favorite Spurs and basketball player of all-time.
Your excellent and passionate post deserves a lot more attention and thumbs-up than its gotten, but it seems that few watch these Olympic Channel videos! I couldn't say anything better than you've already said it, but it's nice to see Manu, the great Timmy Duncan, and the Spurs get some love in your post. I agree that Manu was a very underrated part of that team's success. I love especially the no-look bullet passes he used to be able to pull off. Tim is easily one of my favorite players of all time. I was in HS back in 2004, but I don't think I watched these Olympics very closely for the basketball, but this was a cool video to watch. At that point, I was a distance runner on my school's track and cross country teams, so I probably would've been following track a lot closer than basketball in the Olympics, but it's nice to be able to watch these retrospectives after the fact.
Argentina no one can beat because Argentina is one of the best basketball team of the world because of teamwork defense assist and shooting and determination,,, Argentina is the best!! Argentina is very playhard never surrender and go hard not go home Again Argentina is the best in world from the basketball🏀🏀👏👏👏👏👏
Considered to be the greatest embarrassment in the history of USA basketball. We lost in 72 and 88 with amateurs. I don't think anyone believed we could lose a gold medal with our NBA level talent ever. Then we lost to Argentina, a team that was not exactly dominant in group play. I give credit to Ginobili though. He figured a way to engineer a massive upset against the US, I have no doubt he helped form a gameplan and gave his teammates some pointers about how to play against these guys since he was so much more familiar with their tendencies than they were.
+Cool Man Argentina beat the USA Team in Indianapolis 2002, at the World Cup (Quarterfinals I think) and then in Athens Olympics 2004 (Semifinals). Sorry for my english!
@@pacoramon9468 , surely you are from a country that never won anything internationally. Argentina did not lose the final. Definitely defeating France won his prize ... the Silver medal. He took advantage of height in his players but knew how to complement with intelligence and heart those deficiencies. Keep watching Argentina's games and you will learn a lot of basketball.
Every Olympics the USA win golds this feat becomes more and more impressive. Out of the 8 Olympics with NBA players US won 7. Only other country to win gold is Argentina
Às vezes eu tenho dúvidas se esse time da Argentina foi o melhor time, no sentido coletivo, que vi jogar... Talvez o time de vôlei masculino do Brasil, entre 2001 e 2006, tenha sido coletivamente tão bom.
Winning to USA like we won it feel it like a golden medal itself. I will never forget the golden generation of Argentina's basketball: Manu, Scola, Oberto, Pepe Sanchez...
I remember watching a game when he first started playing in the NBA where he pulled off a circus 360 move for the score and the crowd was just stunned into silence trying to figure out what they just had seen. Virtually everyone was thinking , "who is this guy ? "
I wasn't surprised that the USA didn't win this tournament as their player experience and preparation was incomparable to the other countries, that was a team of mainly young players thrown together at the last minute. Yes man for man they may have been more talented than Argentina but as a team Argentina were better and more experienced, which is why they won.
I really don't know how Italy beat Lithuania and lost from Argentina. Lithuania was far better than Argentina, and also Italy beat Argentina in the previous round
This really was a great lineup but I would still pick the spain 2008 over this team even though they did not win but the level of competition that time was way tougher compared to this one
i used to think that the USA's team in 2004 was weak but looking at the roster Argentina had it hard! probly the only and LAST time a team in North and South America other than the USA that will ever win GOLD at the Olympics
so?? we are in the history now.... two times won over usa in a row. World cup 2002 and olimpicos 2004. Few teams have an gold olimpic medal and the world cup: Usa and Argentina.
Without Prigioni, Delfino and Ginobili (3 of our best players), and taking in count that we completed the team with a lot of youth players who made their debut with the national team. But it's true anyway
