@@putler965 those were the years of clear sky after a big storm. A few years before (2001-2002) we had one of the biggest crisis in all our history (maybe the biggest one). We had a big debt and a fiscal deficit impossible to pay. On this period we had about 6 presidents. And One of them, Duhalde made a big economic downsizing mainly based on a huge devaluation of the Peso, destroying the convertibility monetary system installed un 1991. In short, he made a big cut of the salary of all argentinians in a week, just using the devaluation as instrument. And then after, we also had lucky, there was a big commodity boom that benefited the country with all the dollars we needed. So... what happened... The Kirchner (2003-2015), they squandered all the adjustment made in 2002-2003, all the money generated during the commodity Boom and what remained, they stole it. Inflation returned with them, they increased the size of the state to crazy levels (nowadays, hallf or more of registered employment depends directly or indirectly on the government), and they also did their best to generate a patronage network dedicated to capturing poor people and making them dependent on a decentralized but well-organized structure that we could call social movements. Basically, we currently have 1, almost 2 generations of people who learned and were indoctrinated to believe that its their "human right" to receive a pay check (or an useless job) from the State without any consideration. Of course, now we dont have that commodity boom, and poverty keeps growing, which means, we need to print money to pay all this (debt market is marginal or directly closed to us, except for institutions like the IMF or Word Bank). How this ends... Almost 100% inflation in the last 12 months. And lets see what happens this 2023. Should I also mention that most children in the country are poor and never finish highschool? Yeah, future looks grim.

It's called prepping you all could have prepared during the good times for the bad times. I've been pushing this on the internet for decades but people keep saying no it wil never happen. Yall thought the good times would last which blinded you. Willing ignorance happens and is happened all over the world we all want to believe good times last even though we know they won't.

It is, I was just there. It has a very European feel, but unfortunately feels run down-the country's problems have severely increased this I think in recent years. the inflation is completely terrible. People line up at the main black market chain, pago fácil, to exchange their ars for anything but - while I was doing the opposite. Gvt allows $200 to be exchanged per person at the fake exchange rate they dictate-then people profiteering off that get involved - gvt also has confiscated people's usd accounts and forced them to convert at the fake rate - instantly stealing half their money. Basic economics would tell you this only severely exacerbates the problem but they continually elect the worst politicians. When I arrived last week, a monster energy drink was 400 ars. When I left yesterday, it was 450. Canned goods were in short supply everywhere, though fresh meat was easy to buy. Chile, Uruguay and Brasil, all of which neighbor, have had fairly stable currencies. I think part of it is also mindset, because I knew any money I didn't spend would lose a lot of purchasing power - so any banknotes I kept were just for tokens. The highest valued one, 1000 ars, is about $2.50 currently. Such a complex, yet simple issue to fix it seems.

The difference between Argentina's inflation and US inflation, is that Argentina already had a severe inflation problem since the early 2000's, it was exacerbated by the pandemic. Also, to compare Argentina's economic health to the US is really a distorted view of the whole situation. Argentina's global credit rating is CCC+ (Junk status) while the US is AAA (Low risk) .

Most people in Argentina work as a family unit and pull their resources together to survive. I was last in Argentina 🇦🇷 in March of 2020 then the coronavirus pandemic hit and I have not been able to return to Argentina hopefully this year I can make it back to Argentina. They are doing exactly the thing they should be avoiding, that is buying hoarding USD. First and for most it is foreign creation based on debt. So once the creditors ask for payments US simply prints more money and that alarms the creditors and force the debtor to hasten the cycle of quantitative easing. Japan is the perfect example of such economy since late 90's but only now caught up the currency issues. This is because its reputation as world manufacture has collapsed and just took about 3 decades to face economic wrong doing from quantitative easing.

Because the argentine state is corrupt and socialist very close to a failed state. They took the pandemic and the quarantine as an excuse for expropriation. Basically every political party is a puppet to the Kirchners that have power since 2 decades ago. The institutions are failing. The main "opposition" to the government is a fake one, the previous president said openly that he is a peronist and it's related to a very dark period of facism of socialism in Argentina, the kirchners are peronists as well.

Because then Argentina would not be able to print its own currency, which it needs to do everyday to survive. This is what happened to Greece. They adopted the Euro, and they had a strong currency for a short time and life was good. But then Greece could not print the Euro, and the Greek economy was not strong enough to earn Euros by exporting goods. By 2008 it was a total collapse and people could not pay for food, electricity, etc.

Pick-pockets are everywhere. Never carry your passport with you! Any cash & credit cards must be kept under your shirt, in a pouch around your neck. If you step onto any form of public transport; busses, subways, or trains, you will be accosted by several thieves at once. Strange hands will be in every pocket, in every nook, and cranny. Hands will go down your pants, and up your shirt. Wear you valuables under your shirt, and have a belt tightly fixed below that pouch. Only by reaching down the neck of your shirt will access your money, that way. Taxi drivers cannot be trusted: They will pretend that you have them a much smaller banknote than you actually did! In Argentina as there arent too many dollars in the national bank, for that reason you cannot purchase dollars with the oficial price which now is i.e. 300 pesos if you dont reach some requirements such as if you collected any subsidy from the government. Also you must be employed 'legally' but that is another story ha ha. Thats why here exists another price for the dollar: dollar blue. These dollars can be bought in financial houses or 'caves', this one is the illegal dollar, but dont worry, everybody buys this dollar because there arent any requirements and for that reasons the price of this currency is more expensive than the official, returning with the example the price should be 450 pesos. The true is that if you work in a 'legal' job you can live well in Argentina, it is not a hell, is a complex echonomic situation. Regards.

Been there done that. Ask the President at the time, Carlos Menim why he lives in Chile today instead of Argentina? For all practical purposes, Argentina is already dollarised. It just won’t admit it. Prices in Argentina respond to the value of the ARS against the dollar and of course, the annual inflation. When the corrupt collect their bribes, they expect them to be in dollars. Many internal transactions (esp in real estate) take place in dollars. Argentines apperently have some US$50 billion (yes billion… thousand millions) in cash dollars squirreled away in safety deposit boxes, mattresses, and plastic bags thrown over convent walls at midnight.

Ill resume it easily... Blue dolar = 200 Argentine Pesos The different is that the prices are a bit cheaper for dollar. So in resume... use your dollars with much knowledge.

The irony: If everyone in Argentina only saved and didn’t invest, hyper deflation would be the problem.
@ThemasterG330
@ThemasterG330 2 года назад
Sadly, it doesn't works like that. The inflation is due to emitting cash so the amount of pesos in the country rises and their value decreases, is like a non-stopping machine, the government uses the pesos to pay the deficit. So as long as the politicians keep on emitting cash there is no escape.

Deflation is impossible for now since only a small percentage of the population are able to save and buy dollars while most people tend to quickly spend their money to buy important stuff as the inflation rises, which is also worsening the inflation hike.

They should buy bitcoin instead of dollars. But I understand the dollar dying at 15% is still better than their dying at 50%

Don't be shocked if U.S. Democrats follow this path. They are deliberately destroying America and many educated (young) people believe in this path...it's nuts. And it's not like they don't see the timeline of Venezuela's destruction on every social media platform. All the information is out there.
