There's already a dude who won against Consort Radahn with just parry and carian retalition. Shield in this game are so fckng OP that only few people capitalizes it.

The best thing about the Elden ring dlc was that it exposed asmonds hypocrisy. He's so set on summons and fingers being "cheesey" or "cheating", but has no problem doing it himself and immediately changing his mind about what is cheese

The fact that his build wasn't even using the most optimal talismans and armor for mesmer is so funny. Imo thrusting swords or spears with fingerprint is still much better, but counters are also very decent

Fromsoft games are made for people who are patient and uses their head to memorize & experiment to solve problems in-game. (Ever since Kings Field) Making use of every tool (mechanics, equipment, environment & etc) provided to them by the game and experiment of it all. In short *"GIT GUD"* Not thinking or going braindead at the start won't help any players. Thus, *"SKILL ISSUE"* Asmon created a solution/build to solve the problem and it worked. It won't be long till others will create other solutions/builds to solve the problems in the DLC.

Funny thing is the skeleton on the horse was the worst boss for him. He lost to it a few times.

This DLC is called: The poise of the AOE, never stop never stopping attacking.

Time for the “hardcore” players to diminish his victory because he dared to use a shield and not roll-spam.

The fingerprint shield defenses are kinda busted but it's also the heavies shield in the game

Another overpowered build is using Jumps and Jump attacks instead of dodging or using Summons

Messmer takes 2 business days between each combo, is so easy to heal between them

He plays it like a knight in real life

Aoe attacks and multiple little guys at once is the main downfall of the build but in the open world you can just take armor off so you dont fat roll

I almost never use a shield in Elden Ring. I like powerstancing and rolling and the DLC showed me that a Greatshield was something that is necessary. I had to learn how to fight with a shield because I never did it before to fight these bosses.

Shields are a big deal in Elden Ring the devs went out of their way to make some mobs and bosses more spammy since shields were not needed at all in Dark Souls 3. They were also TERRIBLE

He needs to react to the Radahn fight, dude judt face tanks all of it and reached phase 2 on his first try. They he proceeds to beat the whole boss in like 35 minutes total

Wow, so Asmon finally discovered shields. He's REALLY gonna get his mind blown when he discovers the Scholar's Shield spell.

Now, he just needs to learn about great spears and vow of the indomitable to truly reach the final form of the wall.

For anyone getting two shot, you can stop that from happening with any build. Just make sure to have at least 55 vigor, get the phys dmg reduction talisman from the halig tree and get the phys dmg reduction wonderphysic tear from calid tree giant. You will no longer be 2 shot.

fingerprint shield and bloody helice is even better, u can attack while the shield is still up so u are not even in danger if u + bleed proc, easy mode

yeah fingerprint shield has been the thing forever. There are builds that use two of them even. And you can roll with it if you level high enough. also, to make this even closer to meta, he would use a thrusting weapon like lance or naganita so that he never has to ever stop holding block even while attacking, and blood infused ashes of war bloodhound step to completely nullify any of the other possible attacks in the game that could potentially damage you, like the super wide aoe spells that damage you thorugh the shield block, you just spam bloodhound step instead of using roll dodges it has a much higher I-frame for moments of invincibility., just bloodhound step spam until the attack is over or until you are out of all the fire on the ground and on you, and you literally take 0 dmg. yep. just spam it. 0 harm, you walk through fire lazer beems and anything else you can imagine. theres a reason why bloodhound step and this shield/lance builds were used by everyone. idk if its nerfed now but its the actual top meta build during the prime days of people doing the crazy ng+7 and shit where you could only take 2 or 3 hits even from the smallest mobs. the only second best builds would be some of the crazy bleed damage builds ive tried before that stack jump hits while dual wielding fast weapons and blood dmg, but those are far more risky and skill intensive glass cannon builds. the meta is to stack damage reduction and bonus attack power proc items and consumables and just be unkillable, while also rolling super big damage with all the atk power procs, bleed and also ice. you get a 2nd weapon cold infused, proc ice on them and while they are icy they take 20% extra damage. then there is the varres white mask that is the BIS helm, it gives you 15% atk power, then the talisman that gives you 20% atk power when u bleed, and another talisman gives your attack skills another 15% atk power. and idk what else im missing but they are all multiplicative, not additive, but multiplicative, huge boosts in dps per proc. so once you get the bleed proc, ice proc, and w.e else procs and atk power procs going you will be doing like 2k to 3k regular hits and the special attacks will be doing like 5k 7k. a moonveil +25 regular attack I think is like 120 200. imagine how much faster youd be killn shit compared to a noob moonveil player. its like literally 10x 15x faster and easier than any builds that dont stack +atk power procs and damage reduction. for damage reduction, look it up there are multiple sources of flat damage reduction through gear, spells incantations food buffs and there is even a talisman that gives you 20% DR ez... just get to 100% DR and you will take 0 damage. although collecting 100% DR I believe is very impossible to do.

As someone who played the entire base game I will explain the downsides. 1. If you hold block and attack with a spear you keep your guard up but do less damage. If you drop your guard you are vulnerable but do more damage. 2. Blocking only protects from the front so it’s all about spacing and positioning. 3. It only blocks about 80% of the attacks in the game so you still have to play around the other attacks. 4. All blocking does is the damage first goes to your stamina bar and overflow damage goes to your health. Attacking and dodging also costs stamina and you have to drop your guard to refill your stamina. Basically it’s a stamina managment plus spacing game where you attack and block until you are low on stamina then you have to back off to rest without getting hit. It’s actually the most fun way to play the game.

Trust me when I say this Shields and counter attacks were an addition to make the game more mainstream and easy. And hell the stance damage is mind boggling with counter attacks. If you've got the patience , shields and counter attacks with some good timing can take down almost any boss.

An action-RPG is ultimately an action and an RPG. People like Let Me Solo Her plays that Action part, people like Asmond plays the RPG part. You just need to be really good in one part of it to beat this DLC or you can just be good enough at both. Either way, the DLC is perfectly designed for a difficult action-RPG video game.

people really underestimate greatshields in soulsborne and since elden ring added guard counters, it's better than ever

That's right, as of right now the new metah for completing Dlc is using stone shield with antspur rapier bleed infused

Whenever I get frustrated, out comes the fingerprint shield, lol. Usually I use the special power on the falling star jaw weapon though. Some bosses are too fast, but I can take out most things that way.

I spent 5 hours and about 40ish attempts to beat Messmer. Insane fight

Block->Guard Counter->Block->Guard Counter->Block->Guard Counter->Block->Guard Counter->Block->Guard Counter->Block->Guard Counter->Block->Guard Counter->Block->Guard Counter

Idk why it took the dlc for everyone to realize how powerful high poise and guard counter is...I ran through the base game kinda similar...beastmaster armor bull goat helm and fingerprint shield

No way messmer is what made him quit. For me messmer is what saved it for me since I fought like 5 hard ass and unfun bosses in a row before him

People are just now finding out shields are insanely good? The way you were in disbelief over guard boost is genuinely funny. Guard boost especially with the fingerprint shield has been amazing since the games launch 2 years ago

So I made a similar build but with a thrusting spear and you literally stab around your shield and never let go of block....... its skill level 0 but it is extremely effective

After a very rough start he changed his build and statistic to become more tanky. It's not just him though that did that. I don't think is funny to play like that but definetly works.

I started my souls journey with bloodborne. Its why ive always gone with dex builds and dodging. The main downside to this build is that it removes the fun. It removes the effort. It removes the ability to actually improve at the game

Haha, found early in dlc a shield named "grünspanschild" its also so strong i could radahn easy block without losing stamina, in comination with a rapier u can attack while blocking.

How do people not understand that quote, as a GENERAL game review it's a 10 out of 10 in his opinion. But from his perspective (at the time) it wasn't something he could personally enjoy. It would be like me saying "I don't like country music but I understand why so many people love it." People are so toxic online they lack the ability to not think of the negatives.

Sure this works, but there are faster and just as reliable ways, like Bloody Great Stars with Wild Strikes and an Iron Jar Aromatic.

It's definitely partially the editing. A lot of people are genuinely pissed he played like this which most of those people need to touch grass. However, you still need to position and if something actually does get through his guard. He is pretty much screwed.

The downside is it's not great in the main game because a lot of enemies (Maliketh, Malenia, Mohg, for example) have means of circumventing a shield. It's GOAT'ed in the DLC because none of the DLC bosses have apparently ever faced a shield lol.

Im not a sissy i give bosses a few tries without summons if i feel that its unfair then summons it is....i am playing the dlc in NG+3 or 4 i cant remember but yeah But fromsoft nerfed the main game tools to make way for the BROKEN tools they put in the DLC just need to explore for them

I think the issue is that some of the bosses (charging boar knight) are really overtuned for certain types of builds. In general I love the DLC, but I don't want to cheese or be forced to respec for 1 particular boss.

I'm getting through it pretty swiftly with my strength, Heavy armor and faith build.

For my easy mode, i just use my mimic with both of us wielding double bleed antspur rapier. Eventually, we punished Messmer and i was laughing hysterically.

When I fought against the Hippo in the Shadowkeep I was like yeah lets turn this game into Ds1 and it worked for me so yeah going the old way is the play

The downside is you do no damage. If you are fine with a 5+ minute slog it works. Personally I feel it would be comparable to using summons. Just wouldn't feel rewarding to use, smells like cheese and looks like it too.

The downside is when against an entire mob/crowd. Think of like you're spartan during the battle of thermopylae, you're exposed from the rear and both sides.

its about time we got to play a modern dark souls 1 instead of guitar hero. glad shield builds still exist from soft leaned way to hard into i frames and parry times instead of resource management.

he's also like level 330 and only in the base game difficulty. He wouldn't be able to block this much in higher ng+. Honestly, with his level he should be in at least ng+5 or higher. He must have done some serious rune farming offline at some point because there is no way in hell you can get to level 300+ in the base game just by doing the story. I think I hit like 190ish by doing everything in the base game. I'm in ng+ 4 and im only 250.

If there is one thing that this DLC has taught us is… Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Adapt your build to the content.

lets be fair the build is lvl 300+, thats one of the reasons its so effective. But overall combo is pretty good.

there is a new better turtle talisman, and a talisman that drastically boosts non-physical resistance while blocking in the dlc. and some guy used "the wall" (the entire Moore set, shield, and bloody seppuku antspur rapier) to start helping people with Radahn. he soloes him with this setup with ease. his name is let me tank him. Radahn is still a shit fight, but at least you can cheese it without spending tens of hours getting better than mid at parrying lol

Why are so many people not using any incantations or spells? No flame grant me strength or the shield one? Barely takes any investment and you get more damage and defense.

Why are people just finding out about the Fingerprint Greatsheild? It's not even DLC.. Thats all you need, plus a poker, it's the most OP shh ever!

the downside of this build is its very weak againts multiple enemys , cause they easy hit u from behind or the side.

There is a MUCH MUCH more broken build than this one lol. The perfume bottles can ONE shot the bosses with the correct build.
