You know I never even knew that the movie used Bach's music, I thought it was all original score, lmao. You broke this down super well, explaining how Bach's music ties into the themes of time travel and how it contrasts with the original score.

Yes! It’s one of those things most people would pass by without a second thought while watching the film, but going back to analyze it reveals ideas that really elevate the film at another glance. I just think this is such a fun film to play around with Bach in such a unique way! Thank you for watching ^~^

OMG FINALLYYY, music analysis channel about anime and animation soundtracks!!! :'))) I'm crying happily inside T_T. Anime music is rarely discussed in detail with scores, unlike film and video game music analysis which are quite abundant in YT. Can't wait to watch more analysis from you!

Cool video! I did pick up on the aria marking the beginning and ending of the time travelling in the film, but your theory on the use of variations is very well crafted. Thanks This films shows how much potential film has as a medium. Incredible and subtle use of music and plot concepts. I want more films like thise

There are few things I appreciate more than appropriate or creative use of classical music in movies/TV. TGWLTT is such a fun film to watch AND it has one of the most thoroughly justified uses of classical music I’ve seen so it just really hits that sweet spot for me 👌 Thanks for watching! :)

You're gonna have to discuss Fullmetal Alchemist one day (in specific, the 2003 run). It's chock full of references in the original soundtrack, as well as the more obvious pieces by Beethoven and Chopin. Mahler, Sibelius, and Tchaikovsky are the three most apparent points of inspiration.

No joke that is almost an exact idea I have for a future video! That score is one of my absolute all time favorites, so you nailed it haha.

Finally I got round to watching this film today and remembered there was something about the music in a video on yt. My enjoyment has deepened and now I love the Goldberg variations even more - Silence of the Lambs wasn't the only piece of cinema to utilise the genius of that music, heck theres even that Thomas Bernhard book The Loser that builds on it. But I am particularly glad that I can point to The Girl Who Leapt Through Time as an example how anime builds on classical culture. Maybe a man of your talent and interest would find Angel's Egg stimulating? It utilises a choir and orchestra to give the film a really eerie otherworldly atmosphere, I am sure theres more to unpack from it.
@CelShadedMusicTheory
@CelShadedMusicTheory Год назад
At one point I considered showing the iconic Silence of the Lambs scene to draw comparison to how tonally different Bach can be used in film, but ended up deciding to avoid the copyright nightmare that might entail. 😂 Thank you for coming back to watch! :) I've yet to see Angels Egg, but it's been on my list for years!

2001 a space odyssey, Dracula and the girl who leaped through time! What other movies use classic music so heavily? 2001 cause the director didn’t like the original music made for the movie base on the classics Dracula cause it was cheap and The girl who leaped through time cause the movie is based around the music. Didn’t notice watching it though so that byproduct know as the story is pretty good too.

Kubrick's The Shining also uses tons of contemporary (for the time) concert music. Much of which was used without the permission of Penderecki, whose music comprised the bulk of it. So Kubrick doesn't have a great track record with composers unfortunately... especially with how iconic those movies and pieces have become! End of Evangelion is the one that comes to mind for anime films, with Bach being the highlight there as well. Thanks for watching! ^~^
