According to the trivia for this movie on IMDB, Mackenzie Astin auditioned for this movie without telling his father (actor John Astin); after Mackenzie got the part and showed the script to his father, he thought it was so bad he looked into getting his son out of the film.
I have never understood why any of these reviewers have ever pointed out the part of the movie where the store owner is watching Dodger take a bath in his basement after getting beat up
Doug Walker, whose the Nostalgia Critic, says this is the worst movie he's ever seen, and also that it's "the holocaust of cinema." And I honestly I can totally see where he's coming from.
My mother was really mad at me for renting this when I was a kid. She gave me money to go down the street and rent a movie, and being an 8 year old boy, I thought this one would be super good. It really wasn't, though I loved it at the time. Can't say I'm not sorry for putting my mother and sisters through watching it with me, though.
Kind of the same for me. I rented this from the video store and started watching it. I got about 5 minutes into the movie when my mother, who was half watching it with me, clearly saw what kind of movie it was and made the excuse that it was way past my bed time and that I could watch it another time. That 'another time' never came. I guess I was also about 8 years old. She basically saved me from watching a piece of shit movie. I used to have the stickers that came with the gum that I'd stick on my bedroom door. My mother told me to take them off because it was apparently scaring my younger brother. In reality, she was probably sick of seeing shitty stickers of kids with melting faces (which my 8 year old self thought was super cool) and just made the excuse that it was my brother who didn't like them.
@@gwendylan1475 Yep, after her initial reaction to my renting it, which was admittedly rather harsh, she apologized and watched it with me. She even said it was really good, though in hindsight, I realize she was just making up for her initial reaction. :D
***** Oh, I don't know. I don't think even the pairing of Oscar the Grouch and Chucky could make something this hideous. For all their faults, at least chucky and Oscar had a sense of humor. Oscar was kinda like Archie Bunker (New York style) and Chucky was like a pissed off Jack Nicolson. In the LOOKS department, the two icons won't win GQ's (Grouch's Quarterly...ha, ha,) man of the year, but compared to that lot....they're Will Smith and Leonardo DeCaprio!
Oscar the Grouch boned Snufflupugus while smashing him about the head with a trash can lid...took a piss on him...life got pretty dark in those grimy NYC back alleys in the mid 1970s.
Am I the only one that finds it weird that there are a bunch of 20 year-old bullies chasing an 11 year-old kid? It seems a bit... inappropriate I should say.
Wow, i've seen many bad things but this is just the crapmaster himself... i dont think is a "bad movie" through, in fact i dont think this is a movie at all, a bunch of random shit thrown at a screen is not a movie for me... Btw, i've searched on imbd about the actors and the director of this turd, not a surpise that most of them never appeared in a movie again after this...
No it’s a real thing I saw it 🙌🏻🤣 it’s awful, basically it glorifies child abuse and slave labor. I liked the cards growing up but the movie was a big Crapper
I remember when I was 4-5 and was begging my mother to take me to see this movie. I was a big fan of the cards. I remember my mother saying that she didn’t want to see that gross movie as she hated the cards...well, she never took me...about 25 years later I was at my boys house and saw the movie in his collection. I got excited when he said I could borrow it. But he warned me, it is not gonna be what I imagine. Found the perfect time to watch it while the fam was sleep...called my mother the next day and praised her for always knowing best! At least garbage is in the title!
pretty sure those "kids" are past puberty which is even worse given the weird dynamics. even taking into consideration the time period this came out, I can't imagine it not being questionable to some folk. then again I doubt many sane people have watched this (thankfully) so maybe that's why
The cool looking VHS cover plus the fact that I collected the garbage pail kids cards as a 80s kid is what made me rent this movie as a 6 year old. I got maybe 20 minutes into the movie before I realized it was not getting any better and I shut it off. So even 6 year old me had some standards lol. The cards were awesome and disgusting in the best way possible. My siblings and I had nearly the whole collection. Also I vividly remember renting another weird movie the same day as GBK. It was called The purple people eater and honestly from what I remember, it deserves to be reviewed. The 80s were indeed a strange (but awesome time)
9:00 WHAT does he actually say when he comes back? Ive been trying to hear that for ever. Please tell me, its driving me crazy. It sounds like he's saying "youd´be happy to die"
This film had an immediate impact on a 7 year old me. After we'd watched the film (rented from the video store) and whilst still hopped up on sugar, I stood in front of my friends and purposefully pissed my pants in homage to Nat Nerd.
Fuuuuuck i hate this movie. A friend made me watch this under the guise of "so bad it's good" .....it's not even good with that mindset. It just fucking sucks in every way possible.
Use to live close to the park they filmed at. I was to small but my brother and cousins would go check them out when they were filming some of the park scenes.
Dude that was a staple of our childhood! You didn't collect the cards? *Plus it was the 80's...our parents didn't give a shit.... Right? ... What? Only me?*
I gave my first crush all my GPK cards when I was little, but being an absolute idiot with no concept of how things maintain value, I had peeled them (they were stickers on cards, technically) and stuck them to papers to make a sort of scrapbook of them. It was a nice gesture even if he wasn't worth it.
No.notjust you.i remember watching it when i was little bit don't remember that much because i was little.but i know that my brother and uncles were always laughing watching it.
About the comment about dodger's family: his parents named him dodger, how much more do you need to understand they don't give a f*ck about their kid !!
Looking for a material for this show? Here it is: Cool Cat: Saves The Kids, Blade Trinity, Max Payne, Glitter, Street Fighter, White Chicks. Just throwing some out there.
This is such a sad, grimy little film. If you watch it, you will feel soiled, more than you would if you watched a filthy grindhouse exploitation movie with rapes and people with stumps and skin-masks.
This was one of my friend's favorite films growing up. He didn't have the best childhood and he once told me that popping the tape into the VCR provided a kind of escape for him. When he showed me this, I was mortified. I gotta be real and say that it actually broke my heart seeing him smiling very big throughout the duration of this film, because to find solace/comfort in such a film devoid of any function or redeeming value greatly implies a childhood that must've been nothing short of a hell.
Mark!!! You're back!! Thank God! I've already re-watched all the old videos. It's 3am and I told myself I'd be asleep by now but I'll watch this first. Who cares if I'm late for work?
This is my favorite RU-vid channel. You are so perfect for what you do, hoping you're around for some time. Thanks for the laughs, hope you're prospering.
I thought so!! I saw you on the schmoesknow podcast and that made we want to see Age of Adeline and it was pretty fantastic. You were great in it. If they do a young Han Solo in a Star Wars spinoff would be the perfect casting choice.
"Manzini, a name that sounds like a piece of male swimwear that should never be worn in public..." 😂😂😂💀 Also you said that, as an audience member I wouldn't feel anything for these characters. And in my experience, that is partly true. The only characters I actually did feel something for were the Garbage Pail Kid's themselves. And that something was utter disgust, revulsion and hate. And because of that, this is one of those rare times/situations where, "burn it with fire" is a completely reasonable and appropriate response.
MARKKKK thank you so much for coming out with a video i just lurk on youtube for weeks waiting for your next bad movies review THANK YOU, YOU AWESOME PERSON!!
Dude!!!! I've waited forever for another video of yours to post! I really wish you add more content soon sorry if im asking too much but i am a huge fan.
To put in perspective how bad this film is Doug Walker said it's the worst film he's ever reviewed as The Nostalgia Critic and the worst film he's ever seen in his life.
yo that was funny as hell when you started talking how long of walk he had from the night club. its like what did they do drive across country to get to this club..
This film seems GENUINELY disturbing. I don't know how it got made. And is it supposed to be a kids film? My god, it's horrific, like your worst nightmare, especially the scene with the prison.
Hey Man, I love the new video, and the whole show in general. I know you're probably busy making tons of content but it would be really great if you could review "Plan 9 from Outer Space". I think that would be awesome. Love your work :)
"Where this kid is being chased down by johnny cage"..... LMFAOOOO im fucking dead man! This is why i subscribed and im veryyyy picky about that sort of shit but man your funny and your videos are gold! Thank you bro for all that you do, you might just end up being my very first patreon, keep it up 👍👍
