1:34 first of all I don't think there would be life on such a planet that small based on the demonstration you gave here 3:22 since the magnetosphere (the one protecting us from the suns harmful uv rays) would be way to weak for it to protect the planet so any life that lives down there would pretty much die that's exactly what happened to mars once

But yes if the golden planet was moon sized, calling the monster a devourer of moons would be moreso accurate

Maybe it's golden on the outside but not on the inside ? Also, maybe the monster took a lot of time to consume the planet instead of swallowing it entirely in one go. Just like that guy from last century who ate an entire plane in the span of two years. So it would explain why the monster is not that big (but still big) and can fit behind the company walls ? I love theories

....whoops, hahaha!!! First off, saying molecules instead of atoms is just silly of me. Second off, getting the whole reason why it's more dense is even worse! I should have and should now look more into that. Cause it works really weirdly, right? I feel like there are some larger atoms above gold in the period table that are also somehow not as dense.

​@@MrSquidWhiskers TL;DR: it is affected by the ratio of atomic mass and nuclear radius. I mean technically there's an element of both here. Generally as you go up the periodic table, elements get physically larger and have to be further apart because of that, which decreases density. However they also become more massive which counteracts this. Your question largely has to do with Domain Geometry. I don't know where your chemistry knowledge is at so I will try to keep this simple (I failed). There are different orbits around a nucleus that electrons can inhabit called shells. Think of these like different distance orbits around a planet (but not quite because most are NOT spherical [or even elliptical at all {and it's not really tied to distance super strictly}]). Within a given shell there are different shapes of orbits. The 4 types of shapes are called s p d f. s orbits are actually spherical. The rest of the shapes are too complicated to bother explaining, but they get progressively larger in size within the shell. So 2s (second shell s orbital) is smaller than a 2p orbital. f orbitals are very very large compared to the rest of them. Orbitals do not strictly fill in order; the order is not 1s 2s 2p 3s 3p 3d 4s 4p 4d 4f. The order is actually 1s 2s 2p 3s 3p 4s 3d 4p 5s 4d 5p 6s 4f. As you can see, 4f fills very late. Kind of. The 4f orbital is smaller than the 5s orbital. The first order is actually right for the order that they fill within a given atom. The second order is correct as you go across the periodic table. For example, if an atom has a given number of electrons, they will be placed locationally according to the second order. So an atom will have electrons in the 5s orbital and none in the 4d orbital until you move to the right so many elements until you reach one that has them in 4d. But within that atom that does actually have electrons in the 4d orbital, they fill into it first before the 5s orbital. As you move across the periodic table, the number of protons in the nucleus of the atom increases. This means that the total force that is applied by the nucleus onto the electrons goes up. But the electrons get further away which decreases the pull they actually feel. The pull also decreases the more electrons are between the nucleus and a given electron. The density of the "blocking" electrons also matters too. Element 76 is Osmium, and Element 79 is Gold. Osmium is very close to Gold, and happens to be the most dense element, so I will talk about it. The Electron Configuration of Osmium is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d10 4s2 4p6 4d10 4f14 5s2 5p6 5d6 6s2. Gold would be 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d10 4s2 4p6 4d10 4f14 5s2 5p6 5d9 6s2. Osmium happens to be so dense because f orbitals are super diffuse, meaning that they provide very little shielding from the nucleus to the higher shells. This means that you end up adding protons to the nucleus, and the electrons that you have to add to keep things neutral end up going into the f orbital which does not do a lot to prevent the additional pull from the nucleus being felt on electrons in higher shells. This results in a net positive amount of pull on the higher shells, and the additional pull causes the higher shells to get smaller. I assume Osmium is the most dense because it is currently filling the 5d orbital, and it happens to be at the sweet spot where you have added enough protons to the nucleus to add more pull onto the higher 6s orbital without providing so much shielding from the nucleus that that pull is counteracted. Gold has 9 electrons in the 5d orbital instead of 6 in Osmium, which is why it would have a lower density. Its largest shell (6s) is compressed less by the pull of the nucleus. Also, with Osmium and Gold being so large, and their largest shell being an s shell, they benefit from another property. Due to the large pull from the nucleus, s orbitals in large atoms require that the electrons in them orbit very quickly so that they do not end up falling into the nucleus. The required speed in these atoms is actually so fast that the electrons become heavier due to their velocity. This ends up adding additional pull to the electrons in the highest shell, which ends up shrinking it more. The reason why it ends up being here and not after another f orbital is because the 5f orbital does not finish filling until element 102 (and you would need to get to element 108 to see a similarly optimal d orbital setup to Osmium) and by that point you have gotten so large due to your 7s orbital that you will just be less dense than Osmium. The periodic table also currently only goes to element 118.

@@MrSquidWhiskers given how little information we have to work with it's fair, but the only thing i'd do differently is maybe measure what the strength of gravity is ingame and use that metric instead to guess the mass and size.

It doesn't really, but since it's based on the mass of the object with gravity, and most materials have a typical density, you can sort of guess how much space something with that gravity would take up, especially when it's the size of a planet. The real trouble is that I don't really know how a solid gold planet would act. Gold isn't super sturdy, so the pressure at the center of the planet might be too much for the gold their to support. What would happen then? Would the whole thing collapse into a black hole? Would the gold at the center be in some super dense fugue state, making the planet actually much smaller? I don't know!

@MrSquidWhiskers Maybe its core is a rarer version of gold & molten magma. Similar to ice7 or the irl solid diamond planet.
