Hi, I'm from the Czech Republic and my husband grows a lot of tomatoes and when autumn is approaching, we just harvest them all - even the green ones. Then we place the green tomatoes on a window sill indoors - and they will get red and edible after a while. So you can harvest your green tomatoes too! By the way, I think that it is absolutely amazing that you have bought the house and the property. These times are uncertain and I guess it is good to have a nice piece of land where you can grow fruit and vegetables. It does require quite a lot of work, however, with prices going higher and higher, I am afraid we are heading for a financial crisis. But you will be fine, you can grow your own food (and meat and eggs, too). So you will always be able to save money. There is a movement around the Western world. The people from this movement call themselves "preppers" and they are people who try to be as self-sufficient as possible and ready for basically any type of crisis. I think that your lifestyle is very similar to theirs, in a way. And I think it is very clever. I also admire how incredibly skilled both of you are, especially when you are still so young! It is amazing. Thank you for your videos and inspiring way of living.

If I were you I would prune these apple trees a lot (40-50 % of branches for first time). After two years of pruning it would grant you bigger apples because tree would need less nutrients for itself. I was sceptical about it but after seing results I do prune every year during cold season in Lithuania (winter-early sprin). It is also possible that your sweet apple tree might start giving apples every year.

Exactly right. We bought a small orchard with nasty apples. After 2 years of pruning they were bigger and you could tell what kind they were.

You have a lovely property and home and have done a lot with it already. It will be exciting to see your future plans. You have an abundance of fruit trees, they all need pruning to keep them healthy and prolific. Remove dead wood, trim out weak, little branches. You may think those weak branches will provide more fruit, actually they draw nutrients away from the big healthy portions and all fruit suffers. This will also open up the crowns and let more sunlight deeper into the trees. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the tour. Your land might be small for a farm, but it's lovely. I bet your oak trees are at least 275 years old or possibly older. I like that you are planting fruit trees for the future. Those yellow jackets eating the fruit are definitely a pain in the behind, but it's nature. Do you have plans for honey bees in the near future? You certainly have land enough to start bee keeping. Are those lake grasses rushes or coattails? You might be able to harvest that for the goats, if they like it. It might also make a good mulch for your garden, to keep in the moisture and reduce the weed growth, plus it would add to the soil quality.

My husband and I own an apple orchard in the mountains of California. We go through years with tons of apples. This year we have none. It is because our trees went into bloom, and then we had a hard frost. For your trees, I would graft a few other late varieties on to your trees. Maybe Rome Beauty and Winesap. And your trees need to be pruned.

Please shield your gooseberries from the goats with a fence for next year. I love good gooseberries, so I feel jealous you can grow your own - or perhaps I am jealous of your goats for eating them. You can cook the green tomatoes or ripen them on a window-shelf. I made many pounds of chutney, using green tomatoes one year.

So many apples! I would be making cider and vinegar with the rotten ones each year. Apples do have a two year cycle and it's good you see that. Watch the night time temperatures. Once the temperature starts to consistently drop, the trees will begin dropping fruit. Pears do this too. Keep in mind that bugs and plant diseases only attack weak plants. Fertilizing plants with goose/chicken/duck poop tea works wonderfully! Ever hear of inverted growing? Make a tall A frame with a planter box on top and plant tomatoes and other vine like plants (berries too). They grow downward which makes them easy to pick and it keeps them away from the bugs.

You might want to get a written agreement with the neighbor about road use. You may be kind, and he may be kind, but he may sell his land to someone who is not kind. In America, it is called an easement. An easement gives you the right to cross the land of someone else to gain access to your land. If you check the old land records, you may find that there already is an easement. It is better to get this taken care of while everybody is kind.

Frost is the reason your fruits and berries don’t come in. The temperature gets so cold after the flowers come out on the plants and kills the flowers, the fruit comes from the flowers.

In spring of course it can happen. But this year we had no frost at all so not always the reason. As some trees where Full of flowers and no frost at all. They just didn't have much fruit. Not sure what happens but of course frost can cause a lot of troubles as well 😁❤

Your apple tree does this to ward off pests. It is a strange evolutionary development. Oaks do it with acorns, cherries and walnuts do it with...well, cherries and walnuts. They think they do it, because the animals that eat up all the fruit can not survive a year with no fruit, or at least a lot will die. The tree can wait, and make more baby trees the next year.
