The live performances can be lucrative if you are an artist who plays gigs regularly. BMI (and I believe ASCAP also) has a program to enter your set lists and if you play your original music you get paid royalties from it.

Funny i played a gig once and our last song was a cover, & when we started up the owner flew out of the back room and jumped on stage in hysterics because she didnt pay her blanket PRO fee. We of course had no idea what she was babbling about and finished up with acapella and drums after she pulled the plug. Somewhere on RU-vid for all to see LOL

I get the privacy in the small businesses and deals with royalties, but that lack of transparency in these times of ultra modern tech and tracking makes me cringe a lil bit. Im sure theyll catch up and make adjustments soon, but for now...yes sir yes ma'am :)

what are the pros and cons of having a PRO?

If you want to collect royalties, you'll need to sign up with a PRO.

Sync My Music thanks for the quick response , just going through a bit of confusion cause im getting myself ready legal wise as a producer and a fellow producer is rhe one thats helping me out with it , i was talked about a PRO and thought they were just trying to get a percentage just for signing me up on ascap but now i see its basically an obligation since i dont know how to collect royalties and thats what the PRO will be doing for me , what a good percentage to give to a PRO!? THANKS SO MUCH FOR TAKING FROM YOUR TIME BEFOREHAND

@@jpa6372 PROs don't take any percentage of your writers or publisher share. They only keep a small percentage of all royalties to keep themselves in business (nonprofit). Go through my free course to learn the basics of this industry: syncmymusic.com/freecourse

@@SyncMyMusic one last question , so im out here producing in the dominican republic but i was born in the states when i register with ascap will they be paying me the same as if i was in registered in the states ? , and thank you so much , you've really helped me alot , and i'll for sure chekc out that free course
