The movie led me to the Queen and and I found it really great, Freddie's depicted lonliness touched me very hard, but later when I rolled myself into their history I found the story disappointing, there are so many fake elements in it. I still have the question in my mind, why did Brian and Roger permit these inaccuracies and false images writing into the story?

Some people liked the movie. I did not, I don't expect everything to be 100% accurate, but there are some grievous, unforgivable lapses in error, the script of the movie is also very juvenile. I agree that Rami Malik did not play Freddie very well his accent was pretty bad, but people who are not Queen fans usually think he was great. As an example I understand why they cut out details about how the band was formed, but then they pretend that Freddie left the band to do a solo album. Freddie never left band, and he was the last one to do a solo album. It makes Freddie appear somewhat narcissistic. After the movie there were a lot of questions on Quora, questions such as, "Was Freddie Mercury a psychopath?" Which is completely ridiculous. They also create the idea that Freddie was always drinking and partying and that he was never around to do any work. In truth he was a perfectionist, according to some studio engineers, Freddie spent the most time in the studio. Brian also spent a lot of time in the studio. Brian, Freddie and Roger actually shared a house before the band was started. Freddie and Roger were best friends before the band was started, they also shared an apartment at some point, Freddie and Roger used to work together as well, they sold vintage clothes. Roger still has a 10 foot statue of Freddie in his garden. He keeps the statue because he says Freddie would have found it hilarious. A funny aspect from their early years is that they constantly swapped out clothes, some of the jackets were a bit short for Brian since he was taller then Freddie and Roger. Freddie and Roger generally got along the best, they had a similar sense of humour, and they both liked partying. Roger and Brian used to fight the most. Freddie and Brian also had many disagreements, but generally Freddie was the peacekeeper in the band. John and Brian also had disagreements. Freddie and John were also very close, Freddie was like an older brother to John. Brian, Roger and Tim Staffell were in a band called Smile. They actually did sign a small record deal with Mercury records, they released one album. After the album, Tim Staffell left and joined a band called Humpy Bong, they had the drummer from the Bee Gees, and Eric Clapton played on their album in a guest spot, it looked like a much better bet. Tim Staffell is quite a nice guy, there is some great interviews with him. He and Freddie both studied graphic design at Ealing Art School (Pete Townsend was also in Ealing art school), he went on to design Thomas the steam engine with the graphic design background. Freddie was in a heavy blues band called Ibex, he changed the name of the band to Wreckage. There is a funny story about how he changed the name of the band, they were a fully formed band who knew each other well. They came from the North and tried their luck in London. They were quite happy to find such a sophisticated singer in London. Freddie called each band member separately and told each one that the rest had already agreed on changing the name of the band, he got each band member to agree separately. When they arrived at the place where their gear was stored, Freddie had already changed the band name on all of their gear. They also lived and played in Manchester for a while. Eventually they went back North. Wreckage has performed at a Queen fan gathering in recent years. After that Freddie joined a semi pro band called Sour Milk Sea, for a few months just before Queen. And this is perhaps my favourite Freddie Mercury story, it shows how he really thought outside of the box. He had to audition for this band, they had quite a few offers because they had good equipment, and some future contracts in place. Freddie really wanted to be part of the band. Freddie and Roger was already very good friends at this stage. They borrowed a good touring van from someone. Roger and another friend drove Freddie to the audition. When they arrived they jumped out and opened the back door for Freddie to step out. Roger walked behind Freddie carrying an ornate box, where he had a microphone. When he arrived Roger took out the microphone and plugged it in. The whole ritual really impressed the band, Freddie already appeared to be a massive star. They said there were other people who auditioned which they thought had better voices, but his manner, looks and stage presence impressed them, and he was hired. Freddie was quite inexperienced as a singer he only started singing at age 23. In his first band at boarding school he only played the piano. There are a lot of great stories from Queen in their early years. Roger was very famous all around Cornwell, he was known as the singing drummer from Cornwell. Brian had another quite successful band called 1984, they even opened for Jimi Hendrix. Brian May discusses some of these early years in an interview, Brian May interview face to face with Rick Wakeman 2012.

no idea if you have seen my comments on the other video about the film. I don't want to re write them but I agree with you, do not like Rami playing Freddie, his over all look, HATE the voice he gave him and he was very pleased with himself that he kept sneaking in an Indian accent even though he was told not to ! I eventually gave in and watched the film which took forever because I could only cope with it a bit a t a time! he won an oscar! to me I HATED the way Freddie was portrayed over all but I didn't like how Rami spoke, his blue eyes! how he looked, his really odd mannerisms and kept slapping peoples bum!? he looked a bit out of it most of the time just odd and awkward and difficult to watch

Roger went to see Freddies ballet to support him and called it "hilarious and brave". I think it was for charity. I'm not sure Freddie did have a proper relationship with that German lady. She seems to be the main source for it. I think she was would have liked a relationship with him. Most films like that are inaccurate because they simplify things for the sake of time and also dramatise things to tell a compelling story. Even if you watch documentaries they are portraying a certain perspective.
@sherryheim5504

Yep, but it was a movie, not a documentary. It really was a movie about Freddie Mercury, not so much about Queen. It was altered to make the movie flow. Timelines were incorrect, events skewed and liberties taken. Brian felt that considering that they were cramming 20 years into 2 hours, they did a fair job of depicting Freddie. I haven't seen the movie but I saw a couple of moments of it. I will say that it has successfully introduced Queen music to another generation and for that, I am grateful. Freddie deserves to be remembered and the other members are in their 70's, soon there will be none left to keep the music alive.

@@bluebell3720 Brian and Roger didn't think so and since they were close to Freddie for over 20 years, I am going to say that it probably is mostly fair in its depiction. Brian and Roger are still very protective of Freddie and I don't think that they would have let the movie go out if it was unfair. They held the trump card because they would not sign off on allowing the movie to use their music unless they approved of it.

I think you were referring to the single that Freddie sang as Larry Lurex. The Trident engineer was doing a project and needed someone to sing "I Can Hear Music" and "Goin' Back". Brian and Roger also played on that. It was released in the US but went nowhere. The last line of Mother Love is "I think I'm goin' back" from Freddies first ever recording. By the way, the Princess Diana thing never happened. He never met her.

I think the movie, like the musical, We Will Rock You, was the brain child of Jim Beach. He wants Queen to be a current band, not a nostalgia act. The movie worked in that Queen got tons of new fans and old fans that had forgotten them came back to the band. I enjoyed the first half of the movie even though a lot was excluded or switched around. The part where Freddie was supposed to have so much friction with the band and John Reid was untrue and silly. The Live Aid part was well done. The ironic part is that if they had stuck to the truth it would have been an even better story. The movie got many fans to look up the documentaries on Queen and learn the truth about the band so it was good in that way. A lot of people said it should have been R rated to show Freddie's real sex life. Brian and Roger said they wanted to bring their story to as many people as possible and not be disrespectful to Freddie's family so it got a PG rating. Strangely they showed Freddie out at clubs by himself when he was never by himself. In the end Roger, Brian and Peter Freestone said it was not meant for the hardcore fan that knew everything about Queen. If you want a documentary watch Days Of Our Lives. It's excellent.
@bluebell3720
@bluebell3720 2 года назад
that's what I don't understand though I agree I don't think they needed to bring sex into why? but it wasn't implied that he had any relationships between Mary and Jim that he was just promiscuous druggie I think that's disrespectful they showed him kissing two guys and claimed he only chased after Jim when he knew he had AIDS! they implied he wasn't supportive of the band..he was selfish..left them... that he was sleeping around behind Mary back.. she said they hadn't been intimate for a long time thats why she thought he was cheating the way he was talking to the female interviewer and about his family and not willing to be honest about his sexuality.. twice it implied he didnt think he liked himself/saw himself as a good person I hated that film

Overall, I did not like the movie. The story takes liberties with the truth/timeline, the characterisation of Freddie Mercury jarred, and I could not totally believe in Rami Malek as Freddie, the character was written as a bit pompous and pretentious, although Rami did a fair acting job with the script he was given. One positive - Queen music has been brought to a new audience.

I chose not to watch it as, having grown up with Queen and seen them through from Bohemian Rhapsody until Freddie's death I just didn't fancy watching a movie where the write up revealed it wasn't going to be properly accurate. Perhaps that a blinkered view, to reject before seeing it, but each to their own and having watched your reaction video I think I made the right choice. Too many flaws and inaccuracies to basically make the film 'presentable / audience friendly'.

BoRap achieved its purpose (meet the next generation). But it felt like a TV movie, Malek in too many scenes seemed to play mannerisms rather than absorb & let them be. Funny, when you deep dive into Queen, it's easy to get protective & defensive because you FEEL like you do know him/them. FYI, that's Barbara V. being voluptuous (albeit older than the clip shown here) in the balcony above Freddie in the IT'S A HARD LIFE video. The story goes they met their match with each other. "Fair play" - your face said it all!

The thing to remember when you’re watching a movie is that it’s a movie. This was never meant to be an accurate representation - it was meant to be entertaining and fun. It took nearly a billion dollars at the box office, which shows that a lot of people really liked it. It also introduced a lot of new people to Queen’s music, which I think is what Brian and Roger wanted. I actually wasn’t that keen on it - I thought it portrayed Freddie too much in the victim role.

I watched a little of it and couldn’t continue. My mother laughed because I said he just wasn’t Freddie, and those teeth were a joke he would been better off without them. I also thought he tried to be more gay even Freddie was more masculine. I’ll probably make someone laugh but I couldn’t get over his eyes. Freddie onstage wore makeup on his and his eyes were so soulful and sensual at times. No. Nobody was Freddie. Didn’t like it and from what I heard many people didn’t like how he was portrayed. Freddie gave a lot and never talked about it. We Queen fans really feel one with the band. Oh, by the way, one thing they did not mention was in the dance for the Royal Ballet, Freddie was singing into a microphone held by a woman, while being held up-side down!! It was pretty comical... although I don't think it was meant to be... If you really want to experience Freddie at his best, check out "How Can I Go On/Guide Me Home", it's two songs on the Barcelona album that are usually played together like a medley... pure perfection... Most of this is true. I don't think "ignored" is the write word though. It took them years to settle on a script that they could accept. It appears they considered numerous versions so ignored doesn't really depict the truth of how they arrived at the finished script. Playing a big role is that they wanted to keep it rated PG and they wanted to inspire a younger generation to become Queen fans. The character of Paul Prenter was reportedly based on a combination of three people, Paul Prenter being one of the three. Paul Prenter did keep Freddie and the band away from people according Brian May. Brian said the press in the U.S. would call up Prenter because he was the band's representative while on tour and they would ask for an interview with Freddie or the band and Paul would tell them Freddie said to F -off when Freddie never said that. The band found this out years later so there was some truth to him keeping him away from people. I don't know who the other two people were that were embedded in Prenter's character.

I saw Bohemian Rhapsody and I loved it. I have by this time seen so many interviews with Freddie, Brian and Roger themselves as well as others that I feel the movie, in spirit, was as honest where it matters as any bio-pic is likely to be. Fiddling with the timeline and leaving out details is inevitavble in this kind of movie but I don't feel any injusrice was done to the guys or the miracle that became Queen. The movie would have probably been 4 hours long if it included every detail some critics wanted. This film is not a historical record meant for the ages. In the end it awakened new generations to one of the greatest bands of all time. In my opinion Brian and Roger did right by this film and I thank them.
